What are some food combinations that you don't understand?

I have never really understood the combination of moules et frites. I quite like fries and I love mussels but the two don't really work together for me. I'd prefer some nice bread to dip in the sauce.

A pub I was in recently offered chips with their potato pie. Now I'm more than happy to double carb but chips with a sliced potato pie?

Mac and cheese as a side confuses me too. I love macaroni cheese/mac and cheese but it doesn't seem to work as a side dish to me. Perhaps I've been missing out all these years.

Which food combinations confuse or disgust you?

Oh that's another one, any sort of sauce in a bacon sandwich. Bacon is perfect on its own, even butter spoils the flavour.

Meet0nTheledge · 11/03/2019 22:37

I love moules frites too though

Ellieboolou27 · 11/03/2019 22:51

Salad served with hot food such as jacket with beans, lasagna etc disgusts me.

Hot Tuna - bloody vile

Fish curry / stew / soup is just wrong

Eggs and avocado together 🤢

Pasta with salad, like lasagne with a side salad. I do not get it.
Macaroni cheese with chips.
Tomato sauce...Work of the devil, its stinks.

Drogosnextwife · 11/03/2019 22:54

Tinned tomatoes with a fry up.

BlameItOnBianca · 12/03/2019 03:37

Double meat anything (as PP said; club sandwiches, burgers with bacon, hunter chicken, surf & turf etc) just can't do it.

Cottage cheese anything, I still don't even know what it is really, it's not cheese I know that much.

Another one not liking salted caramel.

Hot sandwiches.

floribunda18 · 12/03/2019 03:42

Brioche burgers are absolutely lush, YABU.

Tavannach · 12/03/2019 03:43

Lasagne and chips. It's just seems too much.

BadLad · 12/03/2019 04:02

Liver, bacon and onions.

Why, just why would you contaminate one of the most delicious things ever discovered with two of the foulest?

SusieQ5604 · 12/03/2019 04:09

Beans for breakfast!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 12/03/2019 04:44

Fruit in savoury dishes - yuck!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 12/03/2019 04:46

Wine and chocolate.

JenniferJareau · 12/03/2019 06:10

Fruit in savory dishes. No I don't want an apricot in my savoury dish!

Mmmmbrekkie · 12/03/2019 06:12

Chicken and prawns
Surf and turf

Impatientwino · 12/03/2019 06:57

I like quite a lot of these mentioned Blush

Alcohol used in desserts though! Yuck! Only exception is crepe suzette but I suspect that's more to do with the theatre of it!

Wherearemyminions · 12/03/2019 07:12

Like a lot of these, baked eggs in a tomato based sauce is gorgeous! The weirdest combo I ever saw was at work, the woman in front of me ordered a baked potato with grated cheese...so far so normal...then finished with a chopped up mars bar on top Envy

Also still can't quite get my head around macaroni pies, like someone thought, macaroni cheese - nice but needs more carbs ?

JenniferJareau · 12/03/2019 07:58

Bacon is perfect on its own, even butter spoils the flavour.

No butter Shock

SweetieJar · 12/03/2019 09:40

I forgot gravy with anything. It makes everything taste the same.

Chicken on a pizza is wrong
Chicken with cream or cheese is also wrong
Chicken and bacon again wrong

I don’t like doubled up meat or added prawns

Mayo with anything especially tuna 🤢

missyB1 · 12/03/2019 09:57

Any citrus flavours with meat - yuck!! I've just put a Mary Berry lamb recipe in the slow cooker and she asks for two preserved lemons in it - NO Mary just NO!!!

Meet0nTheledge · 12/03/2019 10:12

I agree about alcohol in puddings, it totally ruins them.

SweetieJar · 12/03/2019 10:13

I'm with you on alcohol in puddings.

I quite like most of the things mentioned but DH tells me I have strange food preferences Blush

However, he puts ketchup on cheese toasties. Nothing weird or wrong about that in itself but something about it makes me feel sick. Possibly because he makes excellent cheese toasties and they're very salty/savoury so IMO the relative sweetness of ketchup ruins it.

We have many disagreements about sultanas in curry.

When I was maybe 5 I was once told off at school for not eating a fish finger which was touching the mash - it was clearly contaminated and therefore highly poisonous Grin

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 12/03/2019 12:37

Chilli and chocolate. No!

Caramel sauce with roast potatoes.

Bitter nuts in things that should be sweet.

ItProtectsMyHead · 12/03/2019 12:56

Caramel sauce with roast potatoes? Is that a thing? Glad I've swerved that Shock
