Giving up sugar and crap for a week starting tomorrow - anyone want to join me?

Givemestrengthorgin · 10/03/2019 20:02

For one week I'm going to try and out out all my sugary crap and crisps. No alcohol. I've been half heartedly "cutting down" for a while now but I'm looking no-one so setting myself a tough but achievable target and then after the week is up...i'll take it from there.
Anyone want to join me? Or tips and advice for curbing sugar cravings welcome as I have a very sweet tooth!

Yes I'll join you. I've been trying to eat more healthily and managing to increase the fruit and veg intake bit still succumb to the crisps and sweets a bit too much. No idea how to deal with cravings - any stress and I'm stuffing my face with rubbish again!

Givemestrengthorgin · 10/03/2019 20:50

@Stripyhoglets Great! Will be good to have someone to hold me to account.
I am a terrible chocolate fiend and it's just normal for me to have chocolate every day. Only in the evenings but it is every evening. I'm about 2 stone overweight and my diet and exercise are so much hand in hand that if I'm bit doing well with one I won't do well with the other either. I think allowing myself just 'a little something' isn't working for me anymore...i need to take away that permission and be a bit tougher with myself.

I really want to join you as my diet is definitely one of the improvements that need making in my life (see username) but ohhhhh the chocolate Grin

I'm definitely in! I have a terrible secret eating habit, if no one sees me eat all of the crap then it hasn't happened!

WhenDoISleep · 10/03/2019 21:10

Yep, I'm in. I cut down a lot last year, but was lax over Christmas and now I can't stop eating chocolate and biscuits again.

Lellochip · 10/03/2019 21:26

Sounds familiar Givemestrengthorgin - count me in! 😅

TBDO · 10/03/2019 21:29

I’ll join too! I bought a multipack of crisps yesterday and ate every single pack. 6 packs of cheese and onion flavour crisps.

I still have soooo much chocolate in the house. Every time people come round, they bring chocolates as a gift. I need to stop eating it and getting tougher when it’s foven to me / DC (gift away?).

Givemestrengthorgin · 10/03/2019 21:39

Great, that's a fair few of us! I'm at work tomorrow so I know I won't each much during the day as never do when I'm in the office. Evening is always the danger time for me but I'm going to aim for an early and healthy dinner and then go out a run. It just takes one or two 'good' days for me to get motivated and my diet and exercise will both improve but it can take months for me to have those good days! I am not going to eat any chocolate tomorrow- will probably be the first day in about 3 years, no joke - terrible i know!

Il join!
I have found the most strange thing to combat my sugar cravings it’s homemade mushroom soup I am dropping the pounds since I started making it.

CoolCarrie · 10/03/2019 21:44

Sugar snap peas help with sweet tooth cravings!

Disney2 · 10/03/2019 21:46

Me too! I have an awful sweet tooth and don't need any more fillings Sad. I can live without chocolate but fruity, chewy sweets are my downfall! Must stock up on something crunchy to snack on instead.

DotingDaisy · 10/03/2019 21:47

Oh, me too!

I gave up sugar for about 3 years, and I’ve fallen off the wagon big time. This is exactly what I need - to be accountable to others!

TBDO - def give the sweet stuff away! I can’t have it in the house, otherwise it’s far too tempting!

Givemestrengthorgin · 10/03/2019 21:48

Hi @Bubba1234 . I was brought up on my mum's mushroom soup which was so thick we used to be able to stand a fork up in without it falling over! What's your recipe? Soup is a good idea as I always feel stuffed for ages afterwards.

dontticklethetoad · 10/03/2019 21:51

Heeeeeeeey.

I feel so much better if I don't eat refined sugar. But it is so delicious and I can't tell the difference between being hungry and being bored.

I'm in!)

Givemestrengthorgin · 10/03/2019 21:52

Good shout with the sugar snap peas. It's not the bag of mini eggs I've become accustomed to in the last month but a sensible alternative!

Givemestrengthorgin · 10/03/2019 21:53

Okay - so what shall we do - just check in here each day to see how everyone is doing and swap any tips or ideas and offer up some support and motivation where needed?

OP posts:
beela · 10/03/2019 21:54

Sugar is delicious! But I need to break the habit. I don't need something sweet after a meal, I just think I do.

Time to go cold turkey I think.

Givemestrengthorgin · 10/03/2019 22:05

@beela I'm the same and think cold turkey for at least a wee while is what's needed so I can't try and justify it. Just an outright no to all chocolate, sweetie and crisps this week.

TBDO · 10/03/2019 22:12

Checking in every day would be good - mighy motivate us to avoid the sugar and crisps of we’re reporting in.

I’ll take chocolate into work tomorrow and leave in kitchen for sharing so it’s out of the house.

I’ve just had two packs of crisps... I’m really not sure I can go cold turkey, I actually am addicted.

TBDO · 10/03/2019 22:13

I will goncold turkey. I can’t just have one pack so better to have none.

Wanderingnomad · 10/03/2019 22:17

Yes, me! I've had the most horrendous weekend eating-wise, and as much as I love desserts I really need some self-control.

PhillipeFellope · 10/03/2019 22:18

Yes, I'm absolutely in! I need to pull myself together and stop shovelling shit into my mouth as I'm packing on weight at a ridiculous rate.

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 10/03/2019 22:19

I'm in too, I need to lose 1.5 stone and its the junk that's stopping me, my meals are healthy but I blow it by snacking on sugary treats in between.

Disney2 · 10/03/2019 22:27

I find a nice juicy mandarin after dinner helps with sugar cravings

SavageBeauty73 · 10/03/2019 22:28

Yes me!!!

I'm properly addicted to sugar.
