Giving up sugar and crap for a week starting tomorrow - anyone want to join me?

Givemestrengthorgin · 10/03/2019 20:02

For one week I'm going to try and out out all my sugary crap and crisps. No alcohol. I've been half heartedly "cutting down" for a while now but I'm looking no-one so setting myself a tough but achievable target and then after the week is up...i'll take it from there.
Anyone want to join me? Or tips and advice for curbing sugar cravings welcome as I have a very sweet tooth!

Can I join? I've given up sugar since Friday when I started the Dukan diet! So sugar and crap all in one hit! Oh boy it's been tough especially at work as we had a birthday yesterday and the office is full of cake!

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/03/2019 14:29

meet I used to be the same In the evenings.face first into a bag sweets, then crisps to balance the salty sweet thing, then chocolate to round it off nicely out of habit, not hungerBlush
I also kidded myself don't drink or smoke and don't drive so walk at least 3-4 hrs a day so it doesn't matter.my wrinkles are living proof I eat too much sugar and it's aged me badlySad

I resisted corner shop and ploughed on
Tuna and lambs lettuce wrap for lunch bag crisps(one bag a day in trade of no sweets or sugar or I know I would fail)and a banana

Well done you guys. Stressful day but did 10 mins ‘blast workout’ ate healthy leftovers for lunch and then ate a piece of dark choc. Gah!

So day two and no sugary treats but boy am I hungry! The temptation to stuff in biscuits is so strong! 😂

beela · 12/03/2019 16:47

Day 2 - beans on toast for breakfast, leftover cauliflower curry for lunch, but came home cold and hungry and succumbed to a piece of flapjack. It was home made though, if that makes it slightly better...

I still need to up my water intake.

Meet0nTheledge · 12/03/2019 17:04

I've done well on water today, glugged three pints at work.

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/03/2019 17:36

How do you drink so much water meet?
I only drink water, but rarely even drink a litre!!in my defense until 6mnths ago I rarely drank more than 200-300mls a day...

DotingDaisy · 12/03/2019 18:48

Not going great here. Not had any sugar, but also not had an especially balanced food day. Also need to go to the supermarket tonight, and I’m hungry. Gah.

Bubba1234 · 12/03/2019 19:25

I think I’m guna crack tonight guys I had a crap day

beela · 12/03/2019 19:34

There is an OPEN packet of m&ms in the kitchen. Talk me out of it...?!

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 12/03/2019 20:00

Beela- imagine you’ve dropped them in dog poo. Would you pick them out and eat them? No! So your craving is resistible Smile

ScafellPoke · 12/03/2019 20:05

I find eating dinner a little later (6:30/7) and going to bed a little earlier (9ish) is the only way I don’t snack on crap of an evening!

Wanderingnomad · 12/03/2019 20:15

2 days in and I'm actually doing ok! I've been having fruit but none of my favourite chocolates/cakes/biscuits. Night time is the worst for me so I'm trying to distract myself at night Blush

beela · 12/03/2019 20:38

livefats that did the trick! Thank you.

Givemestrengthorgin · 12/03/2019 20:46

Just in after a very long day but managed to avoid the crap. I had an apple, banana and a latte for brekkie, soup and a roll for lunch and came home to dh having already made sausages with mash and veggies. Now I'll just have a cup of tea and that's me. My motivation is high as I am so uncomfortable in my own skin. Feel really fat, bloated, gassy and generally a bit shit.

@Bubba1234 how are you doing?

@beela did you resist the m&m's?

Givemestrengthorgin · 12/03/2019 20:48

Just saw that you did. Nothing like imagining dog turddy food to kill a craving Smile

givemestrength you may feel bad about yourself, but remember to be kind too.youve made another day eating well, and are supporting us all❤️

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 12/03/2019 20:57

Glad to be of service!

I think it’s important to find your own personal weak spots and figure out how to tackle them. I don’t have a problem with post-dinner snacking, instead my danger time is early evening, before dinner. So for me, moving my dinner earlier seems to be reducing the urge to dive into the biscuit tin.

Today I had coffee, yoghurt and fruit for breakfast, soup and a roll for lunch, and stir fry for dinner. Snacked on some rice cakes but no biscuits, cake or other sugary crap so I’m calling that a win Grin

Givemestrengthorgin · 12/03/2019 21:13

Thanks @Stilllivinginazoo. You are absolutely right. I do need to be kinder to myself.

It's funny but I see my mind and body as two separate entities. My body has been good to me and I often guilty that I've made choices in diet etc that isn't good for it. I feel I should have been nicer to it but better now than never. If my body could make the food choices instead of my brain it wouldn't be choosing the stuff I usually go for.

@LiveFatsDieYoGnu that is definitely a win, well done!

This is a lovely supportive thread Smile

Today:
banana, granola, ss milk for breakfast.

Rye bread with smoked mackerel pate, salad, apple for lunch.

Curry, brown rice for dinner.

Drinks - 3pts water, one tea, one decaff coffee, 3 herbal tea.

Snacks - two satsumas, handful of salted peanuts, mini cheddars. Need to wean myself of those.

Zoo - re drinking water, I find it quite easy at work as I am at my desk all day. Tea on arrival, get a pint of water mid morning, finish by lunch, another with lunch, take another back to my desk for the afternoon. I don't find it as easy at home, but try and keep a glass by the kitchen sink and have some every time I go in there.

needmorepizzainmydiet · 12/03/2019 21:29

I want to do this starting tomorrow!

beela · 12/03/2019 21:48

livefats that's my usual danger time too. DH and I usually eat together once dc are in bed but that often means not eating until 8pm or later, which is too late - especially if I've had lunch at 12ish.

I think I need to eat with dc, I'm usually happy with a cuppa once I've eaten my evening meal (unless there are open m&ms in the house of course).

Ferfeckssake · 13/03/2019 03:47

Susanach That is my downfall too. After a full meal, I always want a something sweet .I know it is just a habit. But so hard to stop .
Any one have any suggestions as to what I can substitute? When I want a cup if tea with something " nice"BrewCakeBlush

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 13/03/2019 07:24

Beela- on days when I can’t eat dinner earlier I’ve had some success in avoiding the worst kind of snacking by having a cup of miso soup or a tsp of bouillon powder in hot water.

Ferfeckssake - I’ve heard that frozen grapes are good for scratching that post-meal sweet itch, but I don’t know how well they’d go with tea Confused

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 13/03/2019 07:50

Did not do very well yesterday

Better day today!
