Giving up sugar and crap for a week starting tomorrow - anyone want to join me?

For one week I'm going to try and out out all my sugary crap and crisps. No alcohol. I've been half heartedly "cutting down" for a while now but I'm looking no-one so setting myself a tough but achievable target and then after the week is up...i'll take it from there.
Anyone want to join me? Or tips and advice for curbing sugar cravings welcome as I have a very sweet tooth!

Room for another ?
I gave up sugar/sweets for 4months then I had a miserable life blip and returned to comfort eating habits.im now exhausted, irritable and feel awful.i need get back on the wagon and I need somewhere I can be honest without judgement as my partner isnt a sweet lover at all and he doesn't see it as anything but lack of willpower...

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/03/2019 22:44

Tips- eat high protein.i found cereal made me want more.greek yogurt,seeds/nuts and berries, eggs or porridge were better options
-sesame breadsticks dip in nut butter, small handful nuts or piece cheese and some crunchy veg or fruit helped cravings and kept me feeling full
-Avoid grapes as these become a sugar substitute really easily

  • have a large glass of water if not sure if need a snack/are bored and wait twenty minutes
  • eat slowly and enjoy every mouthful.if I over eat I tend get more cravings/eat more sugar

I'm in a similar boat, husband is the same size he was when we met 20 years ago. Lucky if he's gained 2 lbs and he doesn't have a sweet tooth at all. Which will hopefully help with not having crap in the house to eat .

My youngest has given up sweeties for lent so I have no excuse really to be buying and scoffing lots of chocolate...
I'm eating last of chocolate in preparation

RemoveAllPicturesOfRon · 10/03/2019 23:17

I’m in! I have eaten SO much crap this weekend and I feel horrible!

ineedaknittedhat · 10/03/2019 23:59

I've had to as my gallbladder is on its last legs and I'm risking pancreatitis if I don't get on top of what I eat.

I've stocked up on lots of really healthy foods and am eating veggies, salad and fruit. I can't have any junk or chocolate or processed fatty stuff. I feel like a rabbit, but I've lost a couple of lbs already and the pain is under control.

The cravings go after a few days and I'm feeling better ready.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/03/2019 06:12

I've been up a large chunk of the night with youngest who has a very bad throat.its a good job I polished off last of chocolate last night as when I'm very tired I'd have some to perk me up.going to be a loooong day here!!
Good luck everyone!stay strong

Givemestrengthorgin · 11/03/2019 07:47

Woken up this morning feeling as motivated as i did when i went to bed last night which must be a good thing!

Apple and banana and a coffee for brekkie which is never a big meal for me, soup and a small roll for lunch and an omelette for dinner - without the usual mound of cheese in it. And i WILL be going a run tonight too. I have a 10k in 12 weeks and my training so far has been half hearted.

Marmite on wholemeal toast for breakfast for me. I was about to reach for the jam but stopped myself... Win #1 Smile

Bubba1234 · 11/03/2019 08:16

I have on the menu today:

Yoghurt with blueberries and chia seeds
Lunch: feta salad
Apple
Beef burgeon with a roll
D: chicken with potatoes and green beans

It might sound like a lot but I have a physical job so I need to eat a good bit on certain days.

Debating whether to go to the gym or clean the kitchen but I’d say it will be the kitchen and early night.
I get the cravings at night so il get my dh to hide them

Meet0nTheledge · 11/03/2019 08:23

May I join you? Sweet stuff isn't really a pronlem for me, its crisps, toast, crumpets whatever. My cholesterol is a bit high and I'm overweight, but otherwise well, plenty of energy. I tried low carb and found it utterly miserable, so I switched to wholemeal everything but have slacked off on fruit and veg in favour of toast and butter recently.

So this morning I have frozen berries, yogurt and no added sugar granola, lunch will be wholemeal toast with tomatoes, avocado and peanut butter, snacks will be an apple and a pear. Dinner not sure yet.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 11/03/2019 08:32

Yep im in

I may have a glass of wine and soda on Thursday when im out but thats it

I had two glasses of wine on Saturday and two on sunday (finishing the bottle) and pedantic ds2 pointed out that thats a bottle in 24 hours!

And i also want to lose a stone and a half and my issue is also eating rubbish...its not the meals as such, its what i eat in between!

PhillipeFellope · 11/03/2019 08:36

Think my plan is to mix up Glycemic index diet with Joe Wicks recipes. I'm completely unprepared today but have just had a cup of tea for breakfast and will do a little shop later, so probably a salad with cous cous and fruit for dinner. And we get gousto delivered for evening meals so that will just be a smaller portion of whatever I ordered last week Grin

Ferfeckssake · 11/03/2019 08:59

Oh I would like to do something about my sugar addiction .Going through a bit of marital issues and chocolate scoffing out of control. Deluding myself that I can just have a little bit. Actually have the "8 week sugar free diet" books here. Must look up recipes to share.
Keep reminding myself that " If I eat crap, I will feel crap"

Givemestrengthorgin · 11/03/2019 13:34

Welcome aboard everyone I've just had cauliflower and parmesan soup for lunch with a bread roll. Now suitably stuffed. Will have dinner around 6 when I get home and then going to try and not have anything other than a cup of tea after that until tomorrow. I know myself well enough that I have to really limit calorie intake for first couple of days otherwise I just think there's no point!

Meatballs in a bun for lunch here with roasted med veg and a bag plain crisps.had a banana earlier
I feel really "hungry" but it's all want biscuit/cake/chocolate.cheese and crackers wouldn't cut it so know it's lower blood sugar, not hungry per se

CakeNinja · 11/03/2019 13:50

I’m 2 weeks in. Weighed myself this morning, I have lost 9lbs Shock
I was eating so much, good and bad stuff, but just constantly.
I have pared right back to a juice for breakfast which I drink during my break at work (lime and ginger with some other bits and pieces), a protein based salad for my lunch and then a normal dinner. Loads of water which is all I drink anyway but no alcohol.

AuntVanya · 11/03/2019 13:54

Normally would have loved to join you but I've been reading the Protestant Traybake thread so this is not the week for me to go sugar-free!

GiveMeSteam · 11/03/2019 13:55

Ooh I love this. I’m in.

DotingDaisy · 11/03/2019 17:20

Day going ok so far

Porridge and grapes for breakfast with a cup of tea
Lunch was a baguette with ham and cheese and a water
Coffee now

No idea what to have for dinner. And I tend to snack in the evenings too. Aiming for an early night!

Bubba1234 · 11/03/2019 18:20

I had what I said this morning but I got a jambon and a sausage roll also.

I had dinner late so if I eat later it will just be a bit of chicken and gravy.
Woohoo guys I’m delighted Smile feeling like day one was a success!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/03/2019 18:22

I'm at the point I'm struggling.bad night means I'm tired and usually reach for sweets to perk me up whilst DC tea cooking (I eat about 730)then I mindlessly comfort eat after my food whilst watch TV.last time I stopped sugar I waited 30 mins post dinner then brushed my teeth and just sip water seemed kill cravings as changes taste of food if eat straight after brushing anyway!but that's not the answer here...guess just need try and keep hands busy til time my food.if I didn't have somewhere to check in I confess would probably have fallen and eaten some chocolate biscuits from pack up tin.must resist.must resist!!

Solo · 11/03/2019 18:31

I am watching and possibly joining in...really interested in bubba's mushroom soup recipe if you are willing to share? :) I eat a lot of fresh soups. I sometimes make chicken and sweetcorn soup if I have a carcass left over and also might make chicken, mushroom and onion soup but, mostly it's bought fresh soup.

PhillipeFellope · 11/03/2019 19:16

I had a major fail this afternoon, ate biscuits, four, FOUR!! After having ryvita and super light cream cheese, tomato and ham for lunch (fucked it marginally by having a spoon of guacamole and a sooo. Of salsa)

Then ate some garlic bread to get the two year old to eat some ! And we've still not had tea because my toddler won't drop off. Face palm.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 11/03/2019 19:18

Ive not been too bad today

Although i have had crisps and raisins

But i will try and avoid the crisps tomorrow Grin
