To ask how much you spend a week on coffee?

How much do you spend a week on coffee and how many cups do you have a day?

Me- so I work a lot on district in different areas so I so spend quite a bit of money on take out coffee, generally I choose cheaper outlets such as Morrison's & McDonald's (approx £2 per cup) and usually once a every weekend myself and my partner treat ourselves to costa, Starbucks etc! (Approx £3 a cup) sometimes I do some paperwork in cafes etc during my working day which is worth the money as it allows me to relax but be productive at the same time!

Days I work in the office I use my own coffee jar so money is saved there!

I calculate I spend approximately £9/10 a week? (3 x £2 and 1 x £3) Excluding the price of my coffee jar! Eeek I have never actually realised how much I spend!

I usually don't drink more than 2 cups a day and try and keep it at 1 when i can!

Nothing! A few years ago I realised coffee was giving me terrible stomach pains so stopped. However we do go to cafe Nero probably twice a month as a family for lunch, so about £18 per visit but only 1 coffee out of that for DH. I find most coffee shops are shit for caffeine free options, green tea (yuk) or camomile is basically it.

Bowsbows · 20/02/2019 13:33

I like coffee but never have I ever got a take-out coffee. Ever. Ever. Ever (echoes). I just can't bear the faff, the parking up, the queuing, the time, the expense etc all for a cup of hot water with a bit of milk and something else in that doesn't.. benefit my body in any way shape or form, and I'm not even a health freak type whose body is a temple or anything.

It's utter madness and "emporer's new clothes" type situation brought on by clever marketing and product placement that we (some of us) cannot survive without take-out coffee or that it adds to our function/bodies in any way that's realistically meaningful. If it's a caffeine kick you're after then probably you're deficient in some other health area of life (sleep, diet) or perhaps you just think you need a caffeine kick. (but you don't).

I spend between £25 and £30 a week in Costa. I know a lot of people sneer about it but I like the taste and I can't make the same at home for pennies or even pounds - I just can't do it, I've tried. I go to Costa every morning before work, often meeting my step daughter and we sit for at least half an hour and chat and before we leave, we get another coffee to take to our respective offices.

At weekends I go in whilst I'm waiting for my husband (I have to play taxi for him) so whilst I'm waiting I sit in Costa with my book and a coffee or we might both go in and meet up with his daughter.

I'll call in and get one if I'm going somewhere where I might have to sit around and wait like yesterday, I had a hospital appointment which involved a wait so I took a coffee and my book.

There's rarely a day when I don't go to Costa. But I don't care, I can afford it and I enjoy it so why not?

Not a coffee drinker here either..but spend Adair bit on peppermint tea when out and about

caperplips · 20/02/2019 13:53

We have a filter coffee machine at home so we make fresh coffee every morning before work.

We also have a filter coffee machine in work so most mornings I make a second cup at about 11am. That's it for coffee for me, I don't usually drink more than that in a day.

I have NO problem having coffee in a coffee shop or a take out (have reusable cups) either and I am always AMAZED at the amount of people who post on here that they never, ever have a coffee out and about as I don't know anyone in real life that doesn't.

I work full time in a very senior position and a coffee or two isn't going to break the bank for me and I am grateful for that!

Ribbonsonabox · 20/02/2019 13:56

1 cup a day... not every day but most days. I like to go to a coffee shop doesn't matter which one, theres a few I like due to where they are rather than the coffee quality!
So probably about 12 quid a week if you were to take it on average!

I only have tea at home never buy instant coffee... I just like to go out to the cafe for a coffee and read my book as a bit of a treat.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 20/02/2019 15:27

erm... one on the way to work and one at lunch time... and sometimes one on the way home for work/during a lunch break (if there's time)...
Errmmm ... so that's at least 25 cups per week....

... and I drink lovely lattes... because it's the nicest thing in my day (thank you Starbucks!).

I don't want to think how much this is!
... but sometimes I get money off because I use a re-usable cup!

Meet0nTheledge · 20/02/2019 15:43

I disagree totally that it's madness. Its a nice, warm, comforting drink that many enjoy. It's hardly a faff at all to stand in line for a couple of minutes. I rarely have take-out, usually only when travelling but I enjoy it when I do, also enjoy sitting in a cafe. It's not about a caffeine kick either, I only drink decaff.

Or maybe we just like the coffee 🤷🏻‍♀️

SinkGirl · 20/02/2019 15:50

Normally very little as we have a bean to
Cup coffee machine but it’s broken. On Monday we got coffees from the Starbucks machine in the local garage twice - that’s £12. Went once yesterday, another £6. I’m sure we’ll get more tomorrow. I am really struggling to function without coffee (toddler twins, everyone has a bug and almost no sleep).

Skirmisher · 20/02/2019 15:51

I don't drink coffee but even I don't think buying a takeaway coffee is the 'emperors new clothes'. I like cocktails and can make one at home so does that mean I should never order one in a bar? Such a parsimonious way to live.

SinkGirl · 20/02/2019 15:52

Yes and yes! But unless my twins magically become neurotypical, and my untreatable health conditions magically disappear, I don’t think I’ll be getting an improvement any time soon.

Also, coffee is delicious. I don’t drink alcohol except for rare special occasions - I’m sure most people spend more on alcohol than I do on coffee most of the time.

Mabellavender · 20/02/2019 15:56

It’s not much money if you enjoy drinking coffee, unless you are trying to cut back then I wouldn’t worry about it.

PalmTree101 · 20/02/2019 15:59

Each office working day x49p (filter from pret with own mug)

I like the taste of coffee. I like the caffeine hit. I like the warm drink-ness. I like the ritual of going to get the coffee in the morning and the chat I have with my colleague whilst we go.

Drogosnextwife · 20/02/2019 16:04

I usually buy a coffee everyday, varies on price depending where I go so about £13. I am definitely addicted to coffee, I have to have a proper coffee every morning or I can't function properly. It's a problem Blush

Catamaran1 · 20/02/2019 16:04

I often have one nero or costa coffee a week. Think it's £2 something.
At home I have Tesco Columbian filter coffee or whichever of the "barista style" instant coffees is on offer (Azera, Lavazza etc)

Drogosnextwife · 20/02/2019 16:06

Me too, your lucky if I but 2 bottles of alcohol a year and that's usually Christmas and New year 😂

Wendywoo1000 · 20/02/2019 16:13

Never buy coffee to go. Its a real waste of money. Huge mark up on it.

theharlotletter · 20/02/2019 16:14

I always like to get a Costa flat white if I'm in town, but as I only go shopping once a month it's just pence. But DH used to work just round the corner from a Costa and he developed a two large lattes a day habit costing roughly £30 a week. Funnily enough we have friends who are horrified at that cost, but think nothing of sharing a nice bottle of wine every night Hmm

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 20/02/2019 16:33

No, it's definitely the caffeine kick. I have a great diet and exercise and 8 hours sleep a night but I just love a nice coffee WITH the bonus of a lovely caffeine hit.

By the way, I'm pretty sure my wanting the alcohol hit of a lovely glass of wine isn't down to a deficiency either...

It's called enjoying the finer things in life... Ask the Mediterranean people. Or try it yourself!

GottenGottenGotten · 20/02/2019 16:44

I disagree. I think coffee tastes quite unpleasant - and yet I probably spend more money on coffee than I do on alcohol despite the fact I don't drink it, while I do enjoy an occasional gin.

theharlotletter · 20/02/2019 16:55

If you enjoy it and can afford it I really don't see any problem with drinking take out coffee as often as you want. Some people seem personally offended at the thought of others treating themselves which is quite mean spirited.

Wallabyone · 20/02/2019 17:00

The 'ooh, you drink coffee, and hold the cup in public, and waste money' attitude on this thread is comical. Some people like coffee, and some people can afford to buy it when out. Some people like to drink alcohol, or even smoke cigarettes. Others spend money on magazines, or meals out. Surely it's up to the individual what they choose to spend their money on?

speakout · 20/02/2019 17:03

You spend £500 a year on takeway coffee OP?

Wow!

AGHHHH · 20/02/2019 17:04

I think I must spend £500 as well. Trying to cut it out. Blush
