To ask how much you spend a week on coffee?

How much do you spend a week on coffee and how many cups do you have a day?

Me- so I work a lot on district in different areas so I so spend quite a bit of money on take out coffee, generally I choose cheaper outlets such as Morrison's & McDonald's (approx £2 per cup) and usually once a every weekend myself and my partner treat ourselves to costa, Starbucks etc! (Approx £3 a cup) sometimes I do some paperwork in cafes etc during my working day which is worth the money as it allows me to relax but be productive at the same time!

Days I work in the office I use my own coffee jar so money is saved there!

I calculate I spend approximately £9/10 a week? (3 x £2 and 1 x £3) Excluding the price of my coffee jar! Eeek I have never actually realised how much I spend!

I usually don't drink more than 2 cups a day and try and keep it at 1 when i can!

I am a coffee drinker but hate shop made coffee.

Much prefer instant to any filter or ground type coffee.

Would never drink it out.

Dd bought a beautiful metal flask that she fills with water and takes everywhere instead of buying drinks when she is out

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 20/02/2019 10:31

auntie

I was thinking more of ladies that walk around shopping Grin i like to have my hands free

But I appreciate your point

I think also with these things its an age thing

I wouldnt have dreamt of going to a coffee shop with small children like i see some mothers doing....BUT coffee shops weren't as prevalent when mine were young so of course i wouldnt have dreamt of it

(Plus i didnt drink hot drinks at the time so that would have been pointless Grin)

Occasionally have a sit down coffee out with dh or a friend. Other than that, £0. I have an Aeropress and buy decent ground coffee and it’s lovely SmileIf I want to take one anywhere I have lidded cups.

I don’t judge people walking round drinking a coffee btw. I’m too clumsy mind you.
However please use a reusable cup! It costs less and all the one use cups and lids are going to be around for ever....

LikeACowsOpinion · 20/02/2019 10:48

Roughly £30 per week.

I enjoy my huge bowl of coffee and sit watching the world go by while drinking it. If I'm shopping I'll have it to take away too.

Will never understand the sneering towards people who spend their money on a coffee out. I couldn't think of anything worse than taking a flask of coffee out with me, don't judge anyone who does though!

Acunningruse · 20/02/2019 10:49

At least £12 per week on Costa/Starbucks, at home we have a Nespresso and use Cru Kafe pods which I buy in bulk approximately quarterly.

I work FT in a demanding job and have 2 kids who do.not.sleep. Some days the thought of that morning coffee is the only thing keeping me sane on a morning, so all the sneery 'but think what else you could spend the money on!' handwringers can do one.

higgyhog · 20/02/2019 11:32

If I want proper coffee when I'm out on a workday i pop into Waitrose and do a tiny bit of my top us shop and get a free one there. If we are out for the day somewhere rural I'll take real coffee from home in a thermos. If we are out in town socially I will buy one, so maybe £5 per month?

TrainSong · 20/02/2019 11:43

I buy Pret filter about once or twice a week. Love it with hot milk. And coffee in cafes another once or twice a week, sometimes treating friends or clients. So £6-12. I know that adds up, but I work from home and go mad if I don;t leave the house sometimes. No libraries near by that aren't teeming with baby singalongs and loud librarians. Cafes are quieter these days!

RadElla · 20/02/2019 11:47

I make my own in a cafetiere, normally two per day. Almost every Sunday I have an espresso con panna at Café Nero, which is £2.40 (or £2.70?), and enjoy it with friends. Actually, I just realised that one purchased cup costs the same (if not more) than a week's worth of ground coffee for my cafetiere! But I can afford an occasional treat, and enjoy it.

Roomba · 20/02/2019 11:51

I buy a jar of Aldi instant every couple of weeks, so about £1.50 a week? I try not to buy coffee when I'm out as we can't really afford it. Not judging anyone who does spend a lot on coffees, I'm probably jealous as I enjoy sipping and watching the world go by occasionally. The only time I'd judge is if someone didnt actually work out what they were spending on it and moaned they were skint saying they never spent money they didn't have to so couldn't save on anything (my sister does this a lot! Runs up credit card bills on takeout coffee then moans she can't pay it off, I don't get it).

seenna · 20/02/2019 11:55

£22.50 exactly (excludes social drinking)

I grab a black coffee at Paddington everyday morning and then have a skinny vanilla latte in the afternoon as a pick me up.

We have a Nespresso machine but rarely use it. I don't find it excessive as I only drink at weekends and don't smoke, do the lottery etc.

seenna · 20/02/2019 11:56

Have had one too many spillages to bother faffing around with a flask.

Agree with this.

NutElla5x · 20/02/2019 12:38

Invest in a flask or lidded cup-much kinda on the environment and your pocket.

willowstar · 20/02/2019 12:38

About £5 for very good decaf to use at home in a week. I get through about a quarter of a pack while at work a week too.

Other than that, I get about three free Waitrose coffees every week on my way to work and treat myself to a coffee while at work maybe once a week or so. We have many coffee shops on campus but only one that does decaf I would pay for and it is excellent, so I go there on my own to catch up a bit on my writing etc...

Tentomidnight · 20/02/2019 12:41

About £10 per week on tassimo pods for two of us.

DarlingNikita · 20/02/2019 12:42

Mostly I buy my own (beans or ground, I'm not that fussy) and make a cafetiere. I'm lucky in that I work at home.

I treat myself to a takeaway one about once a week, which is usually in the region of £2.80–£3.15 as I (hands up!) like to go to pretentious artisan-type cafes. I'll go out for coffee too, about once a month if that and usually as part of a weekend brunch out.

I recently had to actually leave the house every day for a fortnight (I did jury service) and so bought coffees out – one or two a day – and really noticed the difference financially.

I used to have a two-day-a-week office job and was in the habit of getting a Pret coffee on both days. I worked out that over a year it could have paid for about three years of my Tate gallery membership, which was a very good incentive to cut it out almost entirely and make coffee at work instead!

willowstar · 20/02/2019 12:44

just read the whole thread and seen some of the bizarre judgements about people drinking coffee and choosing to spend their money on it. I really don't get it.

I grew up in continental Europe so coffee shops and coffee drinking and café culture is normal to me and I absolutely love it. I love the ritual of it and the taste of it. I am mid 40s now but when I was a teenager I had a coffee machine in my bedroom. Love it.

I now only drink caffeinated coffee or tea about three times a week so mostly I drink decaf. There are some excellent decafs available these days.

BarbaraofSevillle · 20/02/2019 12:49

I think the judgement is towards the people who complain that they 'never have any money for anything nice' but don't count their £50 a month Starbucks habit as 'something nice'.

There's also the environmental aspect if they're still using single use cups.

ElinoristhenewEnid · 20/02/2019 12:52

Never understand why people regularly get hot drinks from costa/starbucks etc. What a waste of money for something you can make for pennies at home.
Probably get 1 or 2 a year when on holiday etc but thats usually under duress.

Peregrane · 20/02/2019 12:56

Where are these magical workplaces with free coffee? :)

reallybadidea · 20/02/2019 13:03

DH's workplace has a barista FFS! And about a gazillion different speciality varieties of tea. Not saying where, but needless to say it's not public sector Grin

Youmadorwhat · 20/02/2019 13:06

@Peregrane I’m a teacher and we have free tea/coffee.

rillette · 20/02/2019 13:09

There's a Pret and Waitrose near where I work, so I always have my own cup and get my free one in Waitrose, plus maybe another 50p filter in Pret. We have posh stuff at home and either Aeropress or V60 single origin beans from a local roastery. It ends up far nicer than most places you can buy coffee at.

Meet0nTheledge · 20/02/2019 13:17

I regularly (once a fortnight or so) have a coffee in a cafe, often Nero or Costa. Yes, I could make it for pennies at home, but sometimes its nice to meet a friend in town, or have a coffee by myself with a book while the DCs go round the shops, or between appointments during the day. I can afford to do this and don't like the sneery attitude of some posters on this thread either.

As for the free tea or coffee at work, I've never had it before my current job, which is a small company. We do a supermarket delivery once a month or so for tea, coffee, squash, bottled water for client meetings loo roll etc. Doesn't cost much and is easier than everyone keeping their own in a very small kitchen or taking it in turns to buy, which from past experience led to lots of niggles over fair use, brands etc.
