What should we name our house?

Literally don't know where to start!

Building a new house in a field in the countryside. Our plot is long and thin so all I can come up with is Long Meadow. There is nothing growing on the plot itself, Beech trees across the road. House will be fairly large so I don't think anything "Cottage". We will have a barn for horses too.

Hit me with your best ideas. All and any welcome Grin.

MuddyWellyNelly’s House?

Honeypickle · 24/01/2019 14:49

Sorry! I like Long Meadow though. Beech House sounds very grand!

Beechview · 24/01/2019 14:50

Ahem

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 24/01/2019 14:51

Beech View House

FlumpyMummy · 24/01/2019 14:53

The Paddocks

Redglitter · 24/01/2019 14:53

I like Beechview - but without the House that sounds too grand

iklboo · 24/01/2019 14:53

Bluntness100 · 24/01/2019 14:54

ComeOnComeOnComeOnGetThroughIt · 24/01/2019 15:04

Number 43. Or whatever number it is.

Keepingtabsonyou · 24/01/2019 15:05

Surely only Emoh Ruo will do Grin

SoupDragon · 24/01/2019 15:10

Or whatever number it is.

It's in a field. Chances are there are no numbers, not every house has one.

BigApple11 · 24/01/2019 15:11

Dunroamin.

SoupDragon · 24/01/2019 15:12

If you look on a map, are there any interesting names for the nearby woods? I don't mean like Dogger's Paradise, obviously.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 24/01/2019 15:13

A lady I knew called hers Tuksumdoin!!

SoupDragon · 24/01/2019 15:13

Sometimes if you zoom on on online maps you can see names.

00Sassy · 24/01/2019 15:14

@Beechview

TokyoSushi · 24/01/2019 15:14

I think you've got it right with Long Meadow

Honeyroar · 24/01/2019 15:15

I quite like Longmeadow.

NigelsBird · 24/01/2019 15:16

Could you check with the local history society for the name of a previous owner of the land, or even a field name from an old map and work with that?
Most fields were named in historic times and where the names have survived, they're a fascinating snapshot of the past. I love the idea of preserving, or even bringing back into use, something that exisited for hundreds of years but has since been forgotten. New house, old name. Much more interesting and locally specific than just Beech House or whatever.

Tarateri · 24/01/2019 15:16

Long meadow sounds good, I basically went along the theme of what I saw to name ours!

CrabbityRabbit · 24/01/2019 15:48

What are you planning to do with the garden/grounds?

You could plant trees and name the house after them e.g. The Birches, Oak House, Ash Place, Cherry Tree Stables etc.

PointlessUsername · 24/01/2019 15:54

house name generator

GroggyLegs · 24/01/2019 16:00

I used that random generator to see what it suggested for my house Pointless

'TV Mast View'

Hmm
Beamur · 24/01/2019 16:04

Long Meadow is a bit dull. (Sorry)
The location of your house sounds interesting, so why not come up with something more creative?
Are there any interesting features on your house? I quite like the idea of a name linked to a new garden feature. A friend of mine lives in a newish house that has a Holly hedge around it and the name reflects that..

MuddyWellyNelly · 24/01/2019 16:04

TV Mast view is hilarious!

Beechview is nice too! I did have a quick look at field names but didn't have much luck, will try again.

Glad Long Meadow is getting some thumbs up.

Crabbity Rabbit we will definitely plant a mix of trees, I love Aspens but thought Aspen Lodge was a bit much haha!
