What should we name our house?

Literally don't know where to start!

Building a new house in a field in the countryside. Our plot is long and thin so all I can come up with is Long Meadow. There is nothing growing on the plot itself, Beech trees across the road. House will be fairly large so I don't think anything "Cottage". We will have a barn for horses too.

Hit me with your best ideas. All and any welcome Grin.

A bourne is a winter flowing stream. Oh. Oops! I did know it was the house in P&P, though.

Aren't there any more geographical features nearby, OP? Named hills? Roman forts? Streams? Farms, even?

Long Meadow makes me think Needs Cuttin'

MrsEricBana · 24/01/2019 17:16

Long Acre for me from all of the sensible suggestions 😁

MuddyWellyNelly · 24/01/2019 17:16

One of the suggestions I got was The Old Field, which I actually kind of like. But we're in Scotland and it might get mistaken for the golf course (it really really wouldn't ha).

What was the plot called?

Penninepain · 24/01/2019 17:17

Stay classic, for the sake of longevity - The Beeches sounds great.

I live in 'Hill House'. It has been Hill House since the 18th century. My best friend live inna house in the nearest village. It is called 'Badgers Holt' God knows why. It is 6 years old and I have never seen a badger in the vicinity 😁
Imhave to admit a sneaking desire for the name though!

Go classic.

Cheddar I better do more research. It's in a pretty agricultural area but it is high up a hill so I can see what else I could find out.

Cheddar it was called....

"Land to the East of {house next door}" which isn't particularly helpful.

Long Meadow is the name of Monty Don's house and gorgeous garden, as featured on Gardeners World. Quite a lot to live up to.

I grew up in a house called Quildon. Think it meant restful or something like that.

MrsSchadenfreude · 24/01/2019 17:33

There were also two houses next door to each other - “Shalimar” and “Why Not?”

Oddcat · 24/01/2019 17:34

Following the MN theme -

Cunting Cottage
Cuntingdon Castle
Pom Bear Palace

Silkie2 · 24/01/2019 17:37

What should we name our house?
justaguy · 24/01/2019 17:42

Lord House, Ace House or The Cinnamons.

MerryMarigold · 24/01/2019 17:43

Personally think the best house name in the world is Greengables.

greendale17 · 24/01/2019 17:44

Long Meadow is boring
