He has now been arrested and charged. Not released the reason why yet.

I know he won his case the other week against Scottish goverment now this and it is all hush hush very odd.

Cismyfatarse1 · 24/01/2019 11:21

The case against the Scottish government was about their handling of the investigation - not about his guilt / innocence of the charges of sexual harassment (or assault?).

Remember it is a different legal system in Scotland too - very different in some ways - so things always get confusing as it is not like it is on TV (to me - anyway - I have lived here for years and years but still don't have the correct Scottish legal jargon as I grew up on Rumpole et al.

MacarenaFerreiro · 24/01/2019 11:21

The case against the government was to do with the way they handled the allegations, not whether the allegations were true or not. The Scottish government fucked it up.

The Police matter is separate. I think it's fairly standard here for the Procurator Fiscal to decide the exact charge. Remember the Scottish legal system is very different. On his first court appearance, if there is one, the charge will be read out and everyone will know then.

MrsJayy · 24/01/2019 11:23

Yes I knew that sorry didn't make that clear, I was meaning why he was arrested is hush hush although we can assume what it is about.

MacarenaFerreiro · 24/01/2019 11:24

I think it's public knowledge that two (?) female members of staff have made allegations about his conduct when he was First Minister.

That's what it's about.

MacarenaFerreiro · 24/01/2019 11:25

Apparently he's due in court this afternoon, so more details then.

MrsJayy · 24/01/2019 11:26

Oh is due in court today.

NewGrandad · 24/01/2019 12:02

Very suspicious that he has been arrested today. The day after Teresa May said there would be no 2nd Independence referendum.

MacarenaFerreiro · 24/01/2019 12:35

Yup, the cybernats are all over Twitter with their far-fetched conspiracy theories about this. Hmm

justasking111 · 24/01/2019 12:38

Cybernats, just spat out my drink laughing Grin

Conspiracy theory 101 Hmm

SciFiScream · 24/01/2019 12:59

Why would the arrest in Scotland by the Scottish Police about an ex-SNP party leader have anything to do with TM's announcements about a referendum?!!

HirplesWithHaggis · 24/01/2019 13:05

SciFiScream

A second Scottish indyref, not EU ref. Because Salmond is still a respected senior figure in the indy movement and the British Government seek to discredit him. Hence also all the bollox about civil war within the SNP.

I'm on the fence, but the coincidence is interesting.

MacarenaFerreiro · 24/01/2019 13:05

Because as every good cybernat knows, Westmonster and "The Toaries" are behind everything that could possibly be branded bad in Scotland.

And everything positive is down do Saint Nicola and Lord Alex.

SciFiScream · 24/01/2019 14:32

HirplesWithHaggis I knew it meant an indyref I didn't think I'd have to explain I realised that on this thread! Indyref is still a referendum.

It's still an extremely tenuous connection so definitely a conspiracy theory. Just a very poor one.

Salmond a respected figure? Lol the number that think him respectable shrinks every day!!!

Can't stand the man.

Redglitter · 24/01/2019 14:35

🙄

Yes cos that's exactly how the Police & Fiscal work

Rememory · 24/01/2019 14:35

They haven't released what he's in court over though have they? That seems strange but maybe that's been the case before and I've just never paid much attention to it

SillySallySingsSongs · 24/01/2019 14:44

I have just seen someone suggest, with no irony, that he is a political prisoner 🤦🏼‍♀️

HirplesWithHaggis · 24/01/2019 14:45

My apologies, SciFiScream.

I realise Salmond is a Marmite character, but he is still highly respected by many.

SillySallySingsSongs · 24/01/2019 15:08

14 counts including counts of sexual assault 2 counts of attempted rape.

Graffitiqueen · 24/01/2019 15:17

Attempted rape!! Those are very serious charges.

happyhillock · 24/01/2019 15:25

OMG these charges are really serious, i know innocent until proven guilty, i alway's say women don't put themselves through this process for nothing. I'm glad Scotland didn't vote to give this man power to run Scotland in the Independence vote. He's alway's been to smug for my liking.

Justanotherlurker · 24/01/2019 15:31

14 Charges Including Attempted Rape & Sexual Assult

beepbeeprichie · 24/01/2019 15:32

Very serious charges indeed. Outrageous conspiracy theories aside, Sturgeon is going to have some explaining to do regarding her five meetings with Salmond.

He may be respected by some, but his ego is allegedly rather large.... if he’s going down he will want to take a few reputations with him no doubt.

Bluntness100 · 24/01/2019 15:39

Jesus, that's very, very serious indeed. And with that amount of charges and obviously cps thinking they have enough to charge and win at trial , when they would be cautious and diligent due to the back story is very worrying.
