I have bought the beautiful notebook.
I have fineliners
I have searched Pinterest.

I have many ideas for things I want to track etc but

I am scared to start.

I am not artistic.
It is the most expensive notebook I have ever bought and I really don't want to spoil it Blush

I have bullet journaled for a couple of years but going rogue this year because I was getting fed up of having to create the monthly and weekly layouts and I fell in love with a bright yellow leather diary So I am trialling using 2 books: the diary, and a notebook of To Do lists, where the plan is then to assign items to each day in the diary. Will report back re whether chaos descends...

MawkishTwaddle · 30/12/2018 11:20

I had a very expensive trip to Amazon last night.

I have no idea what I’m doing.

Watching this thread with —fear— interest

BeekyChitch · 30/12/2018 11:21

I've been looking for people like you! GrinAbout to start mine after putting it off all last year! Need ideas on how to layout my year ahead in a way that suits me if anyone has any?

MeetOnTheSIedge · 30/12/2018 11:24

I don't bother with a proper future log, I use my phone calendar for all events and just copy the next weeks events across at the start of the week, which helps imprint it all in my brain. For busy periods of the year (Nov/Dec, Easter and summer holidays) I do make page per month planners for holiday club planning, holidays, school events etc but don't add in every day stuff like swimming lessons which just stay on the weekly pages.

Happyinheels · 30/12/2018 11:27

Thank you for the replies and advice. I really love the idea but what stops me is my overthinking about what to include and how to even start!
Would anyone be willing to pm me some screenshots please? (So as not to put yourself!)

BuJoing is in no way procrastinating. Chatting about it on MN is. Grin

I have been using Castelli notebooks. Am currently on my second one, third year but I roll over in the same book. I looked the other day & couldn't find the same notebook on the John Lewis website where I've got it from before & am now dreading this one running out. I'm not even halfway through. It's like those moments when you think about how much you love your puppy & get sad that it's going to get old & die one day. I'll have to investigate where to get a new one closer to the time, although I am seriously considering buying another one now & writing in the current one where I put it so I can't lose it so I know I've got at least another 18m-2y before I need to even consider looking at other options. Maybe I should just buy a lifetime's supply of them, in case they stop making them!

Starting mine today - there is already an index so don’t need to do that. Will make first 6 pages a half page each planner for the year. Will put birthdays in this and then anything as it comes up for future months, eg dentist around April, plan summer holiday in February that kind of thing. I used to print out little calendars and stick them in but going to just write them this year. Then a planner for January - though actually before that i’ll put in a Christmas 18 one so I can write who gave us Christmas cards etc and what we did for reference next year. And a reminder to spend less money! I do a double page for each week as they happen with appointments and stuff to do. Then any random pages (house plans, films to watch, holiday ideas) just go in anywhere I want. I still use a family calendar on the wall and put some reminders in my phone. I have a separate one for work.
Take a photo on your phone of this week’s pages to take out with you if you don’t want the book out.

I am starting a new one this year. I like the basic one - here

Just lots of lists in a black pen. I do it in the morning with my coffee before anyone gets up.

longnight · 30/12/2018 11:33

The beauty is it doesn't have to be a lot of effort I spent about 15 mins at the start of the month setting up a monthly page and putting appointments important dates in and then I do daily set ups it takes me the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee in the morning and then I sit down at night and write a few journal type of lines.

SoupDragon · 30/12/2018 11:34

This is my diary. I bought a clock face stamp from Amason and just scribble things on with an arrow to the right time. Usually I colour in the centre circle from red to violet so the days are colour coded. On the right hand page I keep track of what I've done (rather than what I have to do!) and things I have to remember. I use post it notes for things like term dates that I then carry forward each week. I then work from the back of the book forwards with lists of stuff.

I did start out with all sorts of pretty stuff but ended up paring it down to what works for me.

Any bujo wankers still around ?
longnight · 30/12/2018 11:34

These are some of my pages I keep it simple because that works better for me. I love looking at the artistic ones but it's not something I can do myself

I’ve just bought a bullet journal thanks to this thread Grin

I love lists but am disorganised and want to be organised and life to run a bit smoother.

I have an initial plan - I want a mood tracker right after the index, a meal planner at the back, and I want to include a food/water/gym diary, to-do lists and spends. I think I’ll split these into sections and then into months in each section.

I think that’s what I’ll do anyway. I’m very excited! Grin

SassitudeandSparkle · 30/12/2018 11:43

I'd like to have a bujo this year, I'm not artistic either so will be using it mainly for lists and habit tracking on a monthly basis. I'll try and keep my appointments in my diary separately.

I see the bujo as being more for me and my lists, whereas the diary/wall calendar is going to be for everyone's appointments and deadlines. We'll see if separating them works!

Howlongtillbedtime · 30/12/2018 11:45

I am going to make a start today so thank you for the reminder that I am doing this for a purpose not to win any awards.

I got a bit bogged down in the pretty pinterest thing.

I had made a bit of a plan and I'm just going to get on with it.

Is it weird I am feeling embarrassed at admitting to my dh I am doing it ?

Not sure why I am overthinking this so much.

I also feel embarrassed @howlongtillbedtime but he’ll know soon enough as I bought it on his amazon account Grin

He mocks me for my lists anyway so am expecting a confused look, a roll of the eyes and a bit of a “you’d get more done if you stopped making lists” comment.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 30/12/2018 11:58

Oh! I realise I've been doing it since about 1982! I've always called them my Everything Books.
Just received a lovely new notebook for this year (though my British Museum Rosetta Stone one isn't finished yet) so might tag along with you.

LittleDoritt · 30/12/2018 12:21

I've got a beautiful leather bound notebook here that I've never used for fear of messing up. It would be a perfect bullet journal. But as I've read through this thread I've realised that my tatty old exercise book that I've used for years is actually a bullet journal in its own right. It's just not pretty, inside or out! So now wondering whether to use it to the end or start the new year with the "pretty" book.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 30/12/2018 12:40

Oh god yes mother!!

I soend a happy hour or two at the start if a new book doodling then im bored witless by about page 3!!!

woolduvet · 30/12/2018 12:54

I left a few pages at the front in case I got arty (I never did)
I went through putting post its where I wanted pages to be then just got stuck in
Mine was useful not arty.

AnnieOH1 · 30/12/2018 12:59

I've now done 3 with major gaps in between each one. It is an utter pain to copy pages across from one journal to the next and I'm still trying to figure away around that! :(

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 30/12/2018 13:07

annie

Photocopy and glue in?

Hippywannabe · 30/12/2018 13:08

I do bullet journal but wonder of anyone can help with this query!
Can anyone recommend a nice cover that would fit 2 a5 books in? Preferably one where the cover of the books would slide in and definitely not a ring binder.
DH bought me a lovely diary for our anniversary but I need a notebook too.

AnnieOH1 · 30/12/2018 13:12

@hippywannabe - www.penheaven.co.uk have some Italian leather journals which are essentially what you've described. :)

@Rufusthebewilderedreindeer - might be something to consider, last time I carefully ripped them out and put in a binder but I don't like binders for bullet journals even though I prefer A4 size!

GissASquizz · 30/12/2018 13:18

I didn't know this existed until I read this thread. Now I've ordered a journal, washi tape and started a Pinterest board. Lists are my THING!

RagingWhoreBag · 30/12/2018 13:54

I started one in an old notebook mainly for work stuff - I run my own business so work and life are pretty much the same thing! I love the idea of making it pretty - asked for washi tape for Xmas - DP bought it but had no idea what it was Grin - but now thinking I need to just get the fuck on with it and stop trying to make it a work of art! My business is arty so I’m thinking I’ll impress clients with it but they’ll probably just think - is this what I’m paying you for?!
