I have bought the beautiful notebook.
I have fineliners
I have searched Pinterest.

I have many ideas for things I want to track etc but

I am scared to start.

I am not artistic.
It is the most expensive notebook I have ever bought and I really don't want to spoil it Blush

@hippywannabe these are under £20 and have lovely colours but you can only slide in on one side. I used to have one, nice to have a zip so nothing falls out. But for my bullet journal I found I look at it less often if I have to unzip it!!

Oogle · 30/12/2018 14:27

I’m planning my journal now.

I want:
Period tracker (I’m coming off contraception)
Habit tracker
Cleaning calendar
Mood tracker
Recipes and meal plans
Brain dump page
Gym tracker
Budget planner and savings goal
Self care ideas
Places to go and restaurants to try
Books to read
Goals and rewards
Monthly to do.

I think this might be too much and will end up being adjusted when the journal arrives but I’m very excited Grin I’m going to spend my New Year’s Eve starting my journal - I can’t wait!

kaytee87 · 30/12/2018 14:38

I've done this for as long as I can remember. I didn't realise it was a 'thing'.

Freshprincess · 30/12/2018 15:18

Last year I used mine as a to-do list organised by week/month in a nice book. This year I'm going to use it for more 'journalling' and tracking. I also have a seperate one for food planning, which made me realise I do the same basic 5 meals over and over again! I'll probably incorporate this into my Main one.

I have a completely separate one for work and I go through them at a rate of knots as I also use them for note taking in meetings. I tend to use free notepads I pick up at conferences and meetings.

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 30/12/2018 15:24

I have lists which I decorate, and have been meaning to start a journal for ages, so far I have one which is for garden tasks.

This thread might be the encouragement I need, thank you.

BTW, why not put the index at the back and work inwards? It would allow you to use as many pages as you need.

sackrifice · 30/12/2018 15:28

My Bullet Journals are notorious at work, so much so that I got 3 new journals for Christmas from my bosses.

When i start a new job, all my research gets put into it at the start, so that I know what I am doing, and have it there for reference, and if any important handouts are given out, I stick them in there [folded if necessary], KPIs and targets get stuck in, new business cards are stuck in on that week's or meeting's page, and I put it into outlook when I get back to the office.

FusionChefGeoff · 30/12/2018 16:00

Not being awkward sackrifice but that’s a GDPR nightmare as the data / information in that book is highly confidential. Seeing as I lost mine Sad it’s made me think very carefully about what I keep in notebooks that leave the office / house regularly.

AGnu · 30/12/2018 16:14

If you're a post-it fan I recommend having a page where you stick in as many blank post-its as you can so you always have one on hand when you need it. I've got square ones & smaller rectangular post-its on my page so I don't have to waste a big post-it if I just need to write a tiny shopping list or something. This pleases me greatly.

EmbarrassingThing · 30/12/2018 16:16

Can anyone recommend a journal under £20 Please?

Inkspellme · 30/12/2018 17:10

This one is just over your £20 budget but does include decent pens? I use it and like it.

The LEUCHTTURM 1917 on amazon is under 20 and loads of colours

BoswelliaGoldMyrrh · 30/12/2018 17:28

Leuchtturm 1917 A5 dot grid is generally the preferred bullet journal option. (£19.99)

www.amazon.co.uk/LEUCHTTURM1917-346703-Bullet-Journal-Notebook/dp/B016WKV8UC/?tag=mumsnetforum-21

There's also the cheaper non-Bujo Leuchtturm for £12.99, which comes in more colour options. Any dot grid or squared notebook will work. Get some nice quality black gel pens to write with, dig out a pencil and ruler and you're good to go.

Happyinheels · 30/12/2018 19:07

So funny - I was out and about today and bought these:

I hadn't seen these posts about the 1917!

Yikes! Took the plunge and now need to actually get on with it!!

I’ve been bujoing for about 18 months. excited to start a shiny new book and put all the things I’ve learnt into practice! I’ve got three kids and a crazy job so bujo has to streamline my life or I’ll not bother. So far I’ve set out

  • a future log all on one page so I can see at a glance,
  • a trips to plan page,
  • pantry /shopping list page (with space for a post-it so I can change the list),
  • a life goals / work goals page,
  • diy and garden planning page.
Howlongtillbedtime · 30/12/2018 19:07

I have had fun and made a very basic journal.

I probably have more trackers than I will use long term but I am going to try and keep up with it.

The next step is to become the marvellous organised and much much slimmer person I am meant to be !

Right, I am Doing This. I've ordered a fancy notebook. I have fancy pens. I don't really know what I'm doing, but I'm going to give it a go and see how it goes.

Are there any Facebook pages that are helpful / inspiring?

Inkspellme · 30/12/2018 23:13

Don’t know about Facebook but Pinterest and YouTube are not bad. Only thing I found was lots of people on both these media’s were really using the bullet journals as a reason to do art. That’s fine but I was a bit put off at first as I thought “there’s no way I can find the time to decorate pages every week”. Then I realized I didn’t have to. If I set it up in an order that worked for me I can choose to add arty bits then or go back and do it later if I wanted.

daisychicken · 30/12/2018 23:32

I've been using the bujo system for a few years but it's only in the last year that I have perfected the system to suit me. I use the filofax clipbook system with the undated weekly diary pages - 1 page per week with the other side blank (actually split into 3 blank columns). The diary side I split into 2, 1 side is my diary the other is for menu planning. The opposite side I have 1 column for food shopping, 1 for to-do lists and 1 for planning. I use the basic bujo code. This worked better for me as my diary section and weekly lists were all in the same section. You can buy undated yearly and monthly planners too but I use Google calendar for a quick outline and have a blank page in the book for a future log. I then have blank pages that I split into sections at the back for example habit tracker, books read etc.

Like I said earlier, it's taken a while for me to get the system to work for me. I don't want the decorative pages or to spend time setting it up - that just added to my work and I needed it to be as simple as possible and to be able to see immediately what was in my diary. But the basic bujo system is perfect now it works for me and I can't imagine going back to any other system.

daisychicken · 30/12/2018 23:35

Forgot to add - I do colour code important dates ie school end/start dates and follow these colour codes in the google calendar as well. I can see instantly what is what which helps immensely when I'm distracted with everything else going on!

HumourlessFeminist · 30/12/2018 23:37

Thanks Inkspellme.

KTyoupigeon · 30/12/2018 23:40

My dd2 bullet journals and posts on Instagram with over 32k followers. She loves it and has definitely improved over the year since she started and has settled into her own style. She enjoys it and finds it relaxing. She uses it to plan her week and timetable with some goals etc

She prefers the SCribbles that matter books - look on Amazon.

She has lots of expensive pens (Tombow) alongside cheaper ones (crayons)!

If you tell us her name we can boost her subs.

TheBaltictriangle · 31/12/2018 06:43

AGnu you can order Castelli notebooks directly from their website.

Wallywobbles · 31/12/2018 08:16

I have a bit at the back with essential reference stuff which basically needs transferring to the next one. When I start my next to do list I transfer stuff not done from previous lists.

New journal for a new year despite what's left.

Mines more practical than pretty.

moggle · 31/12/2018 08:34

Oh no you’re sucking me in again. I had one in 2016 for about 6m and loved it so much. But i eventually got fed up of doing the weekly layouts and also still relied on my phone / google calendar so the weekly diary became kind of pointless apart from as a to do list. But even with that I’d end up with loads of lists on my phone and that would be my first port of call.
Then I bought a Filofax and made some personalised weekly diary inserts which worked ok but like the leuchtturm I found it was just too bulky and I never took it around with me much. Again, phone to the rescue (but I hate how tied I am to it).
Now I have one year old twins as well as my now 4 yr old and I honestly laugh that I ever had the time to do this but would dearly love to try again and at least have a book of lists even if my day to day and week to week diary is always on my phone. But I can’t imagine having the time to deal with it, every spare minute I have im actually doing the things or sleeping! And my changing bag is full to bursting so I still don’t have room to carry round a notebook in there really.
Anyone in the same boat or got any tips?
