Think I don’t dress my 6 year old dd like the other girls

Don’t think we’re too unusual I prefer traditional style outfits, ditzy prints, colourful tights and clothes think JL Jojo mama that kind of style but this isn’t like 99% of girl in her class.
Dropped her at school party day today and most of the other girls were in sparkly glittery clothes, jeans, skirts mainly pink/grey/black with glitter boots.
Dd has never said anything about clothes until she came home today said a couple of the girl said her clothes were ‘weird’.
Maybe I need to dress her more ‘trendy’? Sorry hate that word but you know what I mean?

My now 4 year old DD has been choosing her clothes since she was 2... she is VERY clear about what she will and won't wear and also studies older girls (7, 8 etc.) very closely and tries to copy their looks. I also have a DS of 7 who will wear whatever I suggest (but not biddable in any other way!) so was not really prepared for DD's interest in fashion! All the smocked dresses etc. have been given away unworn....

I’m horrified at girls aged 5 knowing about MAC. That’s so sad. At that age they should be playing with toys. Not expensive make-up.

Kids care about what they wear at different ages. Support them, don’t pander to them.

Dd would only wear trackies till she was 11, because jeans were uncomfortable. Now all she will wear is skinny jeans and crop tops...

I'm afraid I always bought soft and stretchy, cotton clothes from H&M and other cheap places - they grow so quickly that I think its a waste to wear expensive clothes and I really dont like fussy old fashioned frilly clothes. (I think poor old George and Charlotte look ridiculous and presume their Mum is waiting for the Queen to die so she can put them in less creepy clothes).

But I did like a pretty summer cotton print dress - just not too fussy.

As I'm an excema sufferer with my DC's similarly affected, I always avoided synthetic clothes and wool. My son has worn a shirt on maybe 10 occasions and neither child has ever really worn wool jumpers or anything wool at all. So leggings and cotton joggers were always good, and soft trousers. I cant remember the ages but I only got jeans when they wanted them. My daughter often liked choosing.

Wasnt keen on tacky mid riff exposing clothes or clothes with lots of disney princesses on them.

My 8yo DD wanted to wear mascara to school because she was worried her boyfriend would leave her if she didn’t. I said no obviously and asked what her boyfriend was going to be wearing to school to keep her?
Don’t know where she even gets it from, I don’t wear make up everyday and she doesn’t even like girly things usually.

DD7 was always dressed in Jo Jo mama, Sarah Louise, Mayoral, Boden etc and I have just tried to let her guide her own style. She still dresses more traditionally than others her age/more dressed up on a daily basis... but she's happy and confident with a true love of tulle! She prefers shoes to trainers, likes ribbons in her hair and loves a ditsy print!

It's not unusual for 8yo girls to want to wear make-up. But it is odd them knowing about specific brands at that age.

And I would definitely be talking to your dd about having a boyfriend at her age and where on earth she's getting her ideas from. A friend? A friend's mum? Either way, completely inappropriate and very sad. She's 8. She should be worrying about games and toys and friends, not putting on make-up to keep a 'boyfriend'.

Mine wears similar, she's 8. Primarily Boden, Joules, John Lewis etc. She's gone off to school for mufti in some Boden dungers and a pointelle. She does express her own wants and helps choose, but still likes similar. Most of the kids in her class are still quite childlike, a few of the boys have started gelling their hair though which is super cute.

I've always got decent jeans though, they're really tough on their clothes and jeans are very useful in that way.

Oh don’t worry We’ve had lots of talks about this. I’ve made it very clear that you do not need a boyfriend at this age or any age.

My 10 yo dd was mostly wearing pretty and frilly clothes until very recently to parties. Occasionally she has worn leggings and a top. Her choice. She doesn’t do jeans and trousers. She wore a lace dress to a party a couple of months ago. It is from the Next special occasion range and bought for a wedding so very pretty. She was unsure before going and I told her she probably wouldn’t wear it again and to wear what she liked. When she came home she said she was the only one wearing a dress like that.

In consequence she’s decided she wants to fit in more and her coat from Monsoon (which she loved until a few weeks ago) isn’t nice. I’m just going with the flow of course.

It’s sad that it happening with 6 yos though. A lot of children at 6 / 7 were wearing pretty clothes and Boden type stuff around here. Your dd wouldn’t look out of place in my village.

None of my dc wore jeans much at all they hated the feel of them. Ds x 2 live in soft cotton joggers if HAVE to do smart... very soft chinos. DD 14 leggings and joggers although now has 2 pairs of very soft jeans . At that age in winter she wore alot of dark but not black corduroy pinafores, or warm just above knee skirts with roll neck tops, leggings and boots...
