TV programmes you MUST switch off

What is it for you? What TV programmes can you not stand at all - to the point that you have to change the channel or leave the room?

For me it’s Impractical Jokers and Homes Under the Hammer. For entirely different reasons - Impractical Jokers because it irritates me to the point that I am just angry, and Homes Under the Hammer because it reminds me of when DH was ill as it was on every time we were in the hospital for bad news and now I just can’t watch it.

I'm a Celeb
Anything with Benedict Cumberbatch, he gives me the creeps
Friends
Anything with Holly Willoughby.

Brittanyspears · 27/11/2018 08:54

Anything with Philip S or Holly W. So smug and fake. Eurgh!

Mrsjohnmurphy · 27/11/2018 08:55

I agree with you on impractical jokers, the fury rises so quickly.
Mrs brown's boys
The last leg
Top gear
That one with the miserable guy and Ricky Gervais
Towie or any scripted reality bollocks

Anything presented by Joanna Lumley

24 hours in A&E.

There is nothing worse than having to go to A&E...why on earth would I want to watch other people doing it?!

AdamNichol · 27/11/2018 09:17

(in no order as all on top spot)
Any scripted reality
Xfactor/talent/voice/celeb/love island/et al (ok with Strictly, Bake off, Apprentice; just hit peak endurance for celeb masterchef)
Football
Alvin and the fucking chipmunks (can this just die already!! it wasn't any good the first 10 times around)
Any soap

There'll be a whole bunch more, but it just pointed out to me how little TV I'm even aware of, let alone watch

MrsJayy · 27/11/2018 09:21

Naked attraction bits abd bobs just dangling and hanging just horrific!

Only connect far to clever for me and VCM is smuggy mcsmugface

Graphista · 27/11/2018 09:21

Mrs browns boys - outdated, naff humourless crap. I have friends who love it so much they go to the stage shows. Bloody awful programme.

Any poverty porn/benefits bashing shite - should be banned!

There's a certain quiz show I can't name as people in real life know of this issue, I used to watch it with my gran especially in her last days, now even the theme tune is upsetting.

Anything with piers Morgan - vile man.

What's rhoa?

I used to love and watch all the soaps but I think I put myself off them. I don't hate them but I just got so bored of all the same storylines being recycled constantly!

Who's the daddy?
Will they won't they?

And even when they did slightly more unusual storylines it was likely a "cause" and all the soaps would do a similar storyline at the same time.

I stopped watching eastenders when they did that RIDICULOUS offensive storyline of baby dies of cot death bereaved mum swaps it for healthy baby - would never happen and was a bloody insult to anyone who'd lost a baby.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 27/11/2018 09:23

the fury rises so quickly

You have hit the nail on the head with that one Mrsjohnmurphy - that is the perfect way to describe how I feel when Impractical Jokers comes on!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 27/11/2018 09:25

This Morning. I hate it so much I’ve even given it a “thumbs down” setting on my Virgin tellybox.

See also:
X Factor
IACGMOOH

MrsJayy · 27/11/2018 09:32

Loose women is quite grim isn't it ? My mum had it on yesterday and they werelolling about prostitutes in care homes Hmm

Newyearwhoohoo · 27/11/2018 09:42

The Simpsons looks at teenage DC.

Anything with Brian Cox in

Strictly. Am I unusual?? Can't stand it.

Nothisispatrick · 27/11/2018 09:49

This morning and loose women, utter trash.

X factor. I used to like it but the past few years have been so bad I can’t even have it on in the background.

Willow2017 · 27/11/2018 10:19

Had to get freesat when we moved house amd have hardly watched British tv since! (Except stuff like archaeology, nature progs)
Before this:
Any soap
Any reality no its not its all scripted tv like 'Essex' 'Chelsea' (although i did like IACeleb last year)
X factor etc
Jeremy kile
The news
Sport apart from olympics, paralympics etc.
Family guy etc.

JustLetMeStapleTheVicar · 27/11/2018 11:07

@Dontthugmeimscared - trust me, Gash In The Attic wasn't a typo Grin

DH used to record all the daytime antiques/auction shows and watch them in one hit. I threatened to divorce him. We weren't even married at that point!

Show Me Show Me on CBeebies can fuck off as well. Pui Fan Lee's 'singing' voice makes me wish I was deaf.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 27/11/2018 11:13

David Attenborough sadly.

I used to associate his voice with wonderful educational programmes and learning and amazing photography. Now I just associate it with misery.

I genuinely don't understand why we have to see all the pain and terror some of these animals go through. I can't bear it and find it incredibly distressing and I'm a hard case!.

We're not stupid, we know it happens and that nature isn't warm and fuzzy all the time. And, if I had children, they wouldn't be watching it either.

So. Haven't watched a David Attenborough programme in years which is a real pity because I know they're brilliant.

PodgeBod · 27/11/2018 11:15

24 hours in A&E
The One Show
Countryfile
Can't Pay We'll Take it Away
There's another one called something like Saints and Scroungers- gross

PodgeBod · 27/11/2018 11:17

on CBeebies the instant turn-overs are Lets Play and Biggleton aka other people's kids playing make believe

MinorRSole · 27/11/2018 11:21

There are lots I wouldn't chose to watch but my absolute hates are reserved for the likes of can't pay we'll take it away and benefit bashing style programmes. I find the making of these programmes as 'entertainment' completely abhorrent.

Also special dislike of Jeremy Kyle.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 27/11/2018 11:22

And of course hideous, depressing Eastenders. Horrible people doing horrible things. And then claiming to be realistic! Even in the worst situations, people still have the odd nice thing happen and the occasional laugh.

Hateful programme.

Oliversmumsarmy · 27/11/2018 11:28

Escape to the country

It is depressing. Full of people looking for a house in the countryside where they are going to live till they die and be carted off in a wooden box from.

Morbid

Anything that is reality or games show related.

And the new Dr Who which has changed from a cult teen programme to something that resembles a show from CBeebies.

Oliversmumsarmy · 27/11/2018 11:29

And any soap opera (hence the Dr Who reference)

staydazzling · 27/11/2018 11:30

loose women , its painful ....my dad used to call it loose gibbons Grin ironically it was better then.

formerbabe · 27/11/2018 11:31

I can't watch grand designs incase the middle classness of it leeches through my TV and infects me

JustLetMeStapleTheVicar · 27/11/2018 11:33

@Oliversmumsarmy - yes to Escape To The Cuntry! It's the smugness I can't bear, personally.
