Do you think anyone would notice if you left Mumsnet?

Back in the day, you’d see the same names over & over again & you would literally notice if someone hadnt posted for a just a few days.
Is Mumsnet just too big now to ‘miss’ anyone?

OP posts:
ReverseTheFerret · 25/11/2018 12:50

Nope. I name change regularly but I'm very recognisable in my posting style and don't seek to deceive by doing so - I just want to fragment any search history on my ID a little bit because of concerns about MN being harvested by journalists looking for lazy copy and the way the site's been caught up with security issues/interns etc.

Elfinablender · 25/11/2018 12:52

No. I name change every time I write a post that is filled with so many grammatical and spelling errors that I can't carry the shame any longer. So, every few months.

BearSoFair · 25/11/2018 13:15

Definitely not! I don't post on that many threads, never really say anything controversial, and very rarely get @ or quoted, I'm sure no one would realise if I left! There are definitely a few posters names that I recognise as regulars and do think I'd notice if they disappeared though.

me ..no
was MIA for ages due to a imo unfair ban. no one missed me ((wails))

Shampaincharly · 25/11/2018 13:41

I remember you Samcro !
Do not think any one would miss me .
I am usually on WAG and games.
I had no internet for a few days a few weeks ago so was not on as much .
I have noticed some people are gone who used to be prolific posters.

Shampaincharly · 25/11/2018 13:42

@Bertrand had a problem in the summer when she had a doppelgänger!

ScreamingValenta · 25/11/2018 13:46

I would miss you from the Music WAG, Shampain!

Shampaincharly · 25/11/2018 13:51

Aw schucks! Thanks @Valenta

AuntieStella · 25/11/2018 13:54

No-one wouid miss me - there's no sign that anyone has ever really noticed I'm here, even though I didn't Jeffery namechange

DiaryofWimpyMum · 25/11/2018 13:58

No I leave for months then come back, once I left for a few years, I started posting when DS2 wouldn't sleep, he's 14 now!

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 25/11/2018 14:03

I have been here for years and years with the same name but nobody would notice if I vanished because I don't post very often.

NoWordForFluffy · 25/11/2018 14:10

There's a few names I used to see all of the time which I haven't seen in ages. I can't recall many specific names, but if they popped up again I'd realise I'd not seen them in ages, IYKWIM?

ArtandCo disappeared after a resurrected zombie thread had her on it but with a totally different back story / life to the one she was using at that time. No idea if she was banned or vanished of her own free will!

There's people on a specific thread who'd probably miss me for a short while, but I'm not well known around the place, I don't think!

Jozen · 25/11/2018 14:13

God no and that's fine with me.

There used to be a poster called Ghostspirit who I don't see anymore. She had a lot going on in her life. I wondered about her and where she went too.

whereiscaroline · 25/11/2018 14:14

Nope!

I also remember ghostspirit and think of her sometimes. I hope she's doing ok.

DaedricLordSlayer · 25/11/2018 14:15

nope I'm a name changer, but I made a few friends on here a couple of years ago, under one name.

I was thinking today I haven't seen sparklingbrook for a while, I'm not on MN as much either now though.

I wonder where mintyy went, I can't remember if she name changed or left shortly after Jeffery.

DaedricLordSlayer · 25/11/2018 14:18

oh go on then.... I'll fan your ego AuntieStella I recognise you Grin

DaedricLordSlayer · 25/11/2018 14:20

and you Samcro

fussychica · 25/11/2018 14:22

Absolutely not. Been on for years but have a very low profile. Thread killer rather than someone who posts memorable stuff.

birdsdestiny · 25/11/2018 14:28

The doppelganger thing happened to anyfucker once didn't it. I have a vague memory of the doppelganger talking about swinging and role play and me thinking Shock

FourFoxCakes · 25/11/2018 14:32

No. I name change regularly so I can post personal stuff without it adding up to an overaand also delete account and re-register with alternate account at regular intervals as a general security measure.

AuntieStella · 25/11/2018 14:32

My Lord Daedric that is very kind of you, but I really wasn't fishing.

There are from time to time threads about posters who people 'know' and like/miss or loathe/good riddance and it is the same 'names' who come up - and it doesn't seem to be related to longevity on MN or profuseness of posting. It's some other quality that makes people memorable, and knowing I haven't got it is just statement of how things are.

Yes I think fewer people know each their now that the site is so much bigger and even only occadional NC-ers are probably someone else. It is a bit easier, I think, to spot people in the topics than in AIBU or 90-days-only

BlytheSpiritsSpirit · 25/11/2018 14:33

I name change regularly, probably due a new one soon, though I've grown quite fond of this one. I don't mind not being noticed or recognised.

FourFoxCakes · 25/11/2018 14:34

I miss EMIN. Re-read some threads the other day and had a good cry.

elQuintoConyo · 25/11/2018 14:37

I don't think anybody would notice, no. I don't have a writing style, unless 'waffley bollocks' could be considered a style.

I float about active and post on what tickles my fancy.

I recognise some posters on here and some who have been mentioned. I miss EatShitDerek because she started lighthearted and hilarious threads in chat.
