It was called Running Scared and it had Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush as the opening credit music. It was about a girl with red hair who's dad was a taxi driver and there was a bad guy played by Chris Ellison from the Bill. I googled it for years and never found anything but ironically I have found something on Wiki today, but even so, no one I know has ever seen it. Has anyone on here seen it? It scared thr heebie jeebies out of me when I was 9 (though it didn't stop me developing a crush on Chris Ellison when he was Burnside in the Bill Grin )

Yes! I only remember the music though. I think I might have been slightly too young when it was on, which is why I can’t remember it much now. (I’m 42)

Witchofzog · 07/11/2018 20:57

@dun1urkin. You would have been around 10 as it was 1986. I am 41. I think it may have been aimed at teens though

Have just looked it up, I wasn’t too young to remember it at all! I just can’t really remember it Grin

I only remember the credit music. I'm just under 40.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 07/11/2018 21:00

yes but I was a bit young for it I think, seem to recall being scared and not really understanding it

queenrollo · 07/11/2018 21:00

I remember it. There was something about his glasses and them or him being called 'bins'.....
Christopher Ellison was scary as hell in it, really intimidating.

Unicyclethief · 07/11/2018 21:02

It’s on YouTube, I watched it recently. Some cracking acting!

PrivateParkin · 07/11/2018 21:02

Yes it was brilliant! It was based on a book called The Cuckoo Sister.

Christopher Ellison's character was called Mr Elkin and his sidekick was Brian. Sorry if all this has already been mentioned I was too excited to rtft!!

NancyJoan · 07/11/2018 21:04

I don’t remember it, but also had a crush on Burnside.

thehousethat · 07/11/2018 21:05

I remember it too. Wasn't it set in Margate?

I also think the Cuckoo Sister was a separate programme.

I'd love to watch them again.

Does anybody remember Ghost on the Water? That was proper scary!

TheyDoItOnPurposeLynne · 07/11/2018 21:06

I remember it well! Was the book by Robert Westall who also wrote The Machine Gunners?

PrivateParkin · 07/11/2018 21:06

It was really scary. I'm 43 and I think it was on in my first year of secondary school, my BFF and I were obsessed with it!

Actually now that I come to think of it, I don't think it was based in The Cuckoo Sister, I think I'm getting that mixed up - that was something else. But the names of the criminals were right Grin I should think before I post.

The "bins" things rings a bell with me too - didn't his "bins" get smashed in some way? Am definitely going to look this up in YouTube.

Unicyclethief · 07/11/2018 21:07

No the one in Margate was Break in the Sun, I can’t find that anywhere, I loved that! Kenny’s Mum ❤️

queenrollo · 07/11/2018 21:07

Yes, The Cuckoo Sister was a different programme. I remember that being quite unsettling too!

PrivateParkin · 07/11/2018 21:09

thehousethat yes you're right, The Cuckoo Sister was something different - but I'd quite like to watch that again too. Hard hitting BBC kids' drama!

PrivateParkin · 07/11/2018 21:11

I don't remember Break in the Sun.

What was the series with a very young Yvette Fielding where her parents owned a hotel?!

NancyJoan · 07/11/2018 21:12

I liked the Cuckoo Sister. And Moondial, which scared the crap out of me

Unicyclethief · 07/11/2018 21:13

Break in the Sun

Witchofzog · 07/11/2018 21:13

I am so excited it is on YouTube Smile. And I am so glad others remember too!

Spudina · 07/11/2018 21:13

I loved this. I remember it was all about the 'binns' which I think turned up in the last episode. They were proof of a crime? Old Burnside was terrifying. I remember the cuckoo sister too. And Chocky. And one called 'Archer's Goon'. Great TV!! Can I ask one? I remember a series that I loved. But all I remember was the last episode where a man in an astronauts outfit arrived. It had a middle eastern actor in it. It's a vague memory (sorry for the derail)

Witchofzog · 07/11/2018 21:15

Oh yes. Moondial. I loved that one too. It was creepy as hell though

OP posts:
DrCoconut · 07/11/2018 21:16

I remember running scared but not properly. However I loved moondial to the point of obsession and when as an adult I took part in an 18th century re-enactment at Belton House it was the best thing ever, swishing around those gardens in my long dress and cloak

33goingon64 · 07/11/2018 21:17

Yes I remember it! I remember writing up an episode of it for English at school (I'm 40).

Killybashangel · 07/11/2018 21:17

I remember Break in the Sun. Really sad. Her step dad hit her and was horrible to her so she ran away to Margate where she used to live, where she had an elderly neighbour who was lovely to her. When she got there she knocked on the door and was told the lovely neighbour had died. Sad
