Does anyone remember this kids tv show from the 80's as no one else I have ever asked does

It was called Running Scared and it had Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush as the opening credit music. It was about a girl with red hair who's dad was a taxi driver and there was a bad guy played by Chris Ellison from the Bill. I googled it for years and never found anything but ironically I have found something on Wiki today, but even so, no one I know has ever seen it. Has anyone on here seen it? It scared thr heebie jeebies out of me when I was 9 (though it didn't stop me developing a crush on Chris Ellison when he was Burnside in the Bill Grin )

I remember that Girl from Tomorrow. I think I do. Doesn't she get cleansed so to speak? Like a shower that removes the purple from her hair.

Does anyone remember a show where they (bad guys) gave a free laptop to every kid in the school to control the kids? It was early 90s on bbc1

Actually I don't think it is that. I just read it's wiki page and that was 96-98. I was working then and I'm sure I watched it after school. I could be wrong though.

Witchend · 08/11/2018 20:11

Also like the 90s version of "The Tomorrow people": beautifully creepy.

Nessiej78 · 08/11/2018 20:24

Does anyone remember Supergran? I'm sure she wore a kilt or a tartan hat! Was she Scottish?!
Also, another Look And Read series I've just remembered- Geordie Racer. Set in Newcastle and I think there were pigeons involved and someone ran The Great North Run.
Great telly watching memories flooding back. Good thread! Grin

Spudina · 08/11/2018 20:36

Supergran was ace!

heymammy · 08/11/2018 21:02

Ha! Loved Supergran and all of these old shows. Am I misremembering or was there one called The Thin Man? I'm sure we watched it at school...why were the school programmes spool scary!!

There is another one from a bit later that I half remember, australian, some sort of event had wiped out the adults and kids were living in a shopping mal,l the "mall rats" was that what it was called? Other kids were clearly in charge and a bit murderous I seem to remember.

Veronicat · 08/11/2018 21:18

@heymammy That was The Tribe. I loved thatshow.

TombIhadaGraveChange · 08/11/2018 23:37

Cheddar - DARK season?

Found it on this list along with some favourites such as Greenclaws and the Really Wild Show.

ColinsVeryJolly · 09/11/2018 01:07

Growing Rich, I loved that series.

TombIhadaGraveChange · 09/11/2018 07:29

ColinsVeryJolly - OMG!!!!! I can’t believe it, that’s bloody amazing! Will have to watch the whole series now. I’m sure I only ever saw the one episodes. Thank you!

Squirrel26 · 09/11/2018 08:14

Is Dark Season the one with a very young Kate Winslett in?

TombIhadaGraveChange · 09/11/2018 09:24

Squirrel26 - yes. According to Wiki it was her "first major TV role." She must have been about 16.

Witchofzog · 09/11/2018 10:41

Who remembers the Henderson Kids with a really young Kylie Minogue?

From the 70's but I was terrified by The Clifton House Mystery. Rewatched it on Youtube a while ago but didn't want to watch the end in case it wasn't as scary as I remembered. Go figure.

Horse in the House - but not how I remembered it.

Here's feminist icon Marmalade Atkins. Me and my friend wanted to be her. Could only find this episode starring the wonderful late Charlotte Coleman.

Jog22 · 09/11/2018 16:23

Hard to believe this was on at 5pm. Dramarama. Proper scary shit. Imagine if this was shown on kids tv now, there'd be an outcry.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 09/11/2018 16:55

I'm 41 and have very much enjoyed this thread! I vaguely remember Running Scared - definitely the bins that rang a bell, and also the necklace with her name on that Paula mentions in that clip that was posted.

Dark Towers was earlier than that, and was daytime rather than tea time. I was early primary when I saw it. It utterly terrified me! "Beware of two bees that buzz together, beware of the bird without any feather!"

Does anyone else remember the Capricorn Game? It was mostly live action with an animated goat who left clues for the love characters to find (I think...)

And my all time favourite - The Adventure Game, featuring C list celebrities of the day tackling puzzles in a prototype crystal maze, fiendishly run by a potted aspidistra.

VisitorsEntrance · 09/11/2018 17:41

The Adventure Game has just had a DVD release. I loved it.

Hobbes8 · 09/11/2018 19:50

I once met the guy from Knightmare. He was called the dungeon keeper or something. He recited the whole spiel for me. It was such a good day.

CatherineCawood · 10/11/2018 00:33

Gronda Gronda! Loved The Adventure Game!

CoolCarrie · 10/11/2018 00:48

The Singing Ringing Tree was one of my favourites, creepy and lovely.

oldsilver · 10/11/2018 09:03

There was something I used to watch and enjoy bt is so sketchy now in my mind. It involved moving to the countryside, hares, toad bones, white horses - a bit spooky. Not enough info to google unfortunately.

arriettyspiders · 11/11/2018 02:26

Jog22 - I was thinking about Marmalade Atkins a few weeks ago. At school we began to say, "Do you want to hang around?" or whatever it was she said on the programme.

Quantum - the ghost in the bedroom (who on a rewatch is latest Lord Dark!) I found quite enjoyably scary. I remember the Tall Knight, too. Christopher Biggins I remember (Benger and Bunce) also, and Andrew Davies (of Pride and Prejudice fame) wrote it.

Was Adventure Game Christopher Biggins?

arriettyspiders · 11/11/2018 02:28

Knightmare was super. We used to play it with friends.
I'm going to have a look at those clips tomorrow! I saw a Dramarama DVD a few years ago. No idea if it included them all.
