It was called Running Scared and it had Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush as the opening credit music. It was about a girl with red hair who's dad was a taxi driver and there was a bad guy played by Chris Ellison from the Bill. I googled it for years and never found anything but ironically I have found something on Wiki today, but even so, no one I know has ever seen it. Has anyone on here seen it? It scared thr heebie jeebies out of me when I was 9 (though it didn't stop me developing a crush on Chris Ellison when he was Burnside in the Bill Grin )

I came here to see if anyone mentioned Badger Girl - thank you Spudina!

Loved Children of Green Knowe and Box of Delights too.

We used to watch the Friday Film Special - I have a snapshot memory of a girl (who I think was Jodie Foster) in massive flares standing at a train station, but that might be completely unrelated...

Feckitall · 08/11/2018 10:28

I have a couple of one's...
Orphan adopted teenage boy who plays flute trying to trace birth parents...

And

Children whose father disappears and are chased by a gang trying to get hold of soil samples...

LoisLanyard · 08/11/2018 10:32

OMG - children of the dogstar! I remember that and how much I loved it. I need to google it now!!

TombIhadaGraveChange · 08/11/2018 10:50

Feckitall that second one - do they all end up on a beach at one point, with a quadbike chase as well?

TombIhadaGraveChange · 08/11/2018 10:52

Or was that Children of the Dogstar?

queenrollo · 08/11/2018 10:57

@Ihaventgottimeforthis - that film was possibly Candleshoe.

LadyR77 · 08/11/2018 10:58

Ahhhhh I'm loving this thread! I'm 41 and remember so many of these so clearly.

IsabelleSE19 · 08/11/2018 11:01

I mentioned this on another thread the other day, but the Friday Film Special with the haunted mine has stayed with me to this day! A pp on the other thread said it was called Haunters of the Deep (I think). Super spooky!

Nuffaluff · 08/11/2018 11:11

I remember it well! I watched it twice and I read the book.

PrivateParkin · 08/11/2018 11:22

Here's my 80s edition of The Box of Delights Smile

Now I have a Wizbit ear worm Grin

Adarajames · 08/11/2018 11:40

I loved Break in the Sun, made me so any to run away to live on a narrowboat! Also majorly fancied Nicola Cowper, long before I know what gay was, let alone have come out myself!

This may not have been a kids one, but anyone recall something called Cassie? Had Isla StClare singing opening title I think.

Loved children of fire mountain as well

museumum · 08/11/2018 11:45

Yes! I’m 42 and have found my people.

I watched box of delights again last year and was very surprised to find it only snows in one episode! And the wolves aren’t in it very much at all. I had remembered it as all about snow and wolves Grin

JoeElliotsMullet · 08/11/2018 11:50

The only ones I remember here are The Cuckoo Sister and Simon and The Witch (and I think the witch was Elizabeth Spriggs?)

Does anyone remember T-Bag?

Omg yes I remember this vaguely - I thought Isla was amazing. Wasn't it a kind of historical tale - I thought Isla was actually in it herself but maybe I've got that wrong. I don't remember much about it - I'm off to Google..

museumum I'm a total bit of a Box of Delights nerd. The snow was real - they filmed in Northumberland somewhere I think, so they were able to use real snow (maybe it melted before they could film all the episodes?!).

Love this thread so much!

PrivateParkin · 08/11/2018 12:02

Adarajames just found this on Wikipedia, I think this must be it? I remember an episode where a maid/servant girl threw a ring into a fire, which definitely sounds like the basis for some kind of folk song.

Apparently Isla is still touring and writing songs...

From Wiki:
In 1981, the BBC offered St Clair the chance to do a series of her own. She decided to make The Song and The Story which involved dressing up in historical costume and explaining the social history behind the folk songs. The series was a success and won The Roses Award "Best Television Programme" and in Munich, the coveted "Prix Jeunesse for Best Light Entertainment".

BayTrees · 08/11/2018 12:11

So many memories, so much Utube time to spend.
The teenage flautist programme was Barriers. Aimed older I think, he was parish teens I think. The actors name escapes me but will randomly come back. Surname might be Benedict
The Tripods series was based on John Christopher books.
Also loved Archers Goon. I was way too old for it but I love Diana Wynne Jones.
Thank you for this thread!

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 08/11/2018 12:25

queenrollo it IS Candleshoe!!!

How the hell did you get that?!
Thank you!

I loved the cuckoo sister and nicked the book from school as I loved it so much Blush. Every cover version I've seen shows the pink skirt. Mine is very 80s.

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 08/11/2018 12:37

I remember T-bag. Me and my brother would sit in front of the telly to point out the numbers as they came up. I was madly in love with one of the t-shirt actors at one point Grin
Does anyone remember the Gemini Factor? That was on Itv. My mum banned me from watching it as I had nightmares.

Adarajames · 08/11/2018 12:44

@PrivateParkin

Not sure if Isla was in Cassie, but she def sang theme song, inc words along lines of 'Cassie ...a teenage bride.....works in a factory' somewhere in it!

Yes, I've seen her play quite recently a time Banbury Folk festival which she has been Patron of for some time I think. She is partly how I got into folk music in fact Smile

queenrollo · 08/11/2018 12:46

@Ihaventgottimeforthis - honestly because it also has David Niven in it and I adore him. So I am aware that it contains a flares wearing Jodie Foster...
