It was called Running Scared and it had Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush as the opening credit music. It was about a girl with red hair who's dad was a taxi driver and there was a bad guy played by Chris Ellison from the Bill. I googled it for years and never found anything but ironically I have found something on Wiki today, but even so, no one I know has ever seen it. Has anyone on here seen it? It scared thr heebie jeebies out of me when I was 9 (though it didn't stop me developing a crush on Chris Ellison when he was Burnside in the Bill Grin )

I also remember a series (I think) which involved a boy racing against time to stop a train from getting blown up by a bomb. Does anybody remember that? Period think I think

Adarajames · 08/11/2018 13:30

@PrivateParkin not Cassie, Maggie! Was typing a list which includes Cassie so brain went down the wrong track! Hmm

I vaguely remember, yes.
It reminds me of how much decent TV drama we had, all of these programmes.

I liked the Cuckoo Sister, Dark Towers and so many of them mentioned here.

I also like Dramarama? but I think that was ITV (which we weren't supposed to watch!) Does anyone remember a short story called Bluebell Wood or Bluebell Hill involving a ghost?

There was also a programme called Anna the ballerina, very dramatic, I think she had some sort of accident. Nobody seems to remember tha one.

arriettyspiders · 08/11/2018 13:55

I have a different cover to that one, Cheddar. It's still in a bookcase somewhere, in one of the bedrooms, I'll have to dig it out.

arriettyspiders · 08/11/2018 13:58

I made my children watch Box of Delights. They didn't mind it, but were Hmm at the special effects, which were rather good for their time I thought.
Reminds me of Green Knowe, one of my favourites.

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 08/11/2018 14:19

I found Ghostwatch on YouTube. I was petrified as a kid. (I know it's not a kids programme technically but a lot of us kids watched it) I let my kids watch it and they were like Confused. They couldn't see the fuss. However I watched it too and realised how crap the effects are now.

TombIhadaGraveChange · 08/11/2018 14:51

There's another programme I remember from late 80s / early 90s. Definitely not a children's programme though (only reason I saw it was because my mother was in the bath). I think it was a series of related programmes but not featuring the same people (IYSWIM). I only saw the one episode.

Basically, it was a single mother with a teenage daughter. Mother meets a new man, who stays over. It was rather raunchy for an early evening BBC production at that time (I really wouldn't have been allowed to watch it if my mother had known!). There was obviously something 'odd' about the man, but at the same time it wasn't totally in your face. At the very end he got in his car to drive off - his numberplate included the number 666 and the car disappeared.

Does this ring any bells?

Jackiebrambles · 08/11/2018 14:52

Oh yes i always mention Dramarama to friends my age and no-one could ever remember it! They were like special one off dramas but really thought provoking ones.

mrsfeatherbottom · 08/11/2018 14:52

Yes, I remember it!

Jackiebrambles · 08/11/2018 14:55

Looking at the credits for Dramarama they had some pretty big names in them! David Jason, Gary Oldman, Peter Capaldi to name but a few!

Does anyone remember of Nanny with Wendy Craig (although i dont think it was a childrens programme) .

thehousethat · 08/11/2018 15:02

Ah I think the series I'm thinking of is Gods Wonderful Railway

ScreamingValenta · 08/11/2018 15:47

I remember God's Wonderful Railway, but only very vaguely. Strangely, I remember the theme tune clearly - it was played by a brass band.

youngestisapsycho · 08/11/2018 16:01

I remember all these TV shows.... anyone remember Seal Morning with Holly Aird?

youngestisapsycho · 08/11/2018 16:07

I have this book which is full of old tv shows...

I love Children of Green Knowe. The other books aren’t as captivating though (well, according to me anyway! Grin) I loved Archer’s Goon too. The Cuckoo Sister sounds familiar but I don’t remember anything else about it.

I’ve been trying for YEARS to find a story about two teenage girls and their mum, who’s recently become a single parent, who go and stay somewhere and mysterious and spooky happenings ensue. I thought it was Cold Christmas, but I bought a copy of that from Amazon, and it’s not.

Would I look terribly weird going through the children’s section of the library with no actual children in tow? Grin

Azelma · 08/11/2018 16:43

@Hobbes8 - thank you so much for that synopsis. I could only remember the music box thing and the racism in Running Scared, and I wasn't even sure if I was remembering the correct programme.

I've just watched the first few minutes on YouTube, after the girls get o the bus the scene cuts to a guy with a rifle, who then walks out of shot!! This would not make it onto TV these days Grin.

Azelma · 08/11/2018 16:49

The copy of The Cuckoo Sister that I've got is the one of them by the front door. I looked exactly like the younger sister, and my older sister did a pretty good job of being all 80s cool (she didn't have Princess Diana hair though).

I use IMDb, I must click on the app about 5 times a day. Love it

SquatBetty · 08/11/2018 17:40

keiratwiceknightley - you have made my day! For years I have been remembering a really dull kids TV quiz thing with alien illustrations but no one else could remember it from my vague recollections, and I had no idea of its name.

Just watched a bit of it on YouTube now - it really is godawful 😂

Incrediblehulky · 08/11/2018 18:01

Ooh yes I remember running scared! I've always remembered it had the Kate Bush track as a theme tune but could never remember what the program was called! I remember something about a missing lens from a pair of glasses? 😁

Spudina · 08/11/2018 18:30

There were two Dramarama's I vaguely remember. One where there was a giant red mouth that people went into. And another where there was a parallel and future universe in a girls basement? She walked into a futuristic kitchen I think. Very strange!!

Spudina · 08/11/2018 18:32

One more program! The Girl from tomorrow. It had a girl from the future called Alana who had a magic headband. Might have been Australian. Loved it!

TombIhadaGraveChange · 08/11/2018 18:43

There's a film that I think of occasionally, a mix of animation and live action. It's about a man who was murdered, and is reincarnated as a dog to save his fiance.
