The worst nightclub you've ever been to?

Ziggys, York c.1999. An old Regency townhouse that you would swear was still lived in. Sofas, scatter cushions, and chintz wallpaper on the walls - chintz wallpaper that actually started sweating by 10pm. The main dance floor was down in the basement with only one narrow staircase for access and which must have breached every single health and safety law known to man.

We only kept going because it was two WKD's for £1.50 on student night.

Ziggys York!!
And Tofts of course
We used to go to Leeds instead as the York club scene was so dire

iamaLeafontheWind · 03/11/2018 08:36

It’s been mentioned but deserves another- Planet Earth in Leeds. Health & safety nightmare being sweaty, downstairs and the revolving dance floor with guys basically watching the girls go round & round.

redexpat · 03/11/2018 08:38

Ok I feel the need to counter the Yorkists from the other side of the border. The Carlton in Morecambe. The wednesday night choice of Lancaster students. Sticky floor in a former bingo hall. And the bus seemed to enter a time warp as the ride back was always quicker than on the way there.

The works in Kingston...felt like gambling with your life every time you went

Bojanglez Guildford...started going at 14.5yrs and even then could tell it was horrendous

Ceasars ..... who doesn't want all you can drink for around £12?!

Chicago's Epsom.... world's stickiest carpet and toilets that never worked

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/11/2018 08:41

Bookworm14, I spent many a night in there, what a dump, had a fantastic timeGrin

Eigkenx · 03/11/2018 08:43

Was Bojanglez in Guildford the one that was in an old cinema? I liked it! (at the time the only alternatives were worse...)

I went to a terrible club off Oxford Street once but I can't remember it's name. Just it was full of people who looked like they belonged on Eurotrash. Grim.

I'll agree Tots in Southend.

Ritzys in Romford was pretty bad, ditto Pzazz in Grays. Casino Rooms in Medway (though that was more a so bad it's good).

Oh and not forgetting Berwick Manor.

Bibas in Bromley is awful. Whose idea was it to have a club which is on about 6 different levels each of which is just a tiny room and the loos are right at the top? The next morning I felt like I'd done 2 hours on the stairmaster at the gym!

Derekmorganwasinmybed · 03/11/2018 08:45

Arrabellas in Preston was a dump

TheHandmaidsTail · 03/11/2018 08:48

Oh where to start.. Grin

All 90's/early 2000's when i used to actually go out

The Blue Orchid in East Croydon - couldn't decide if I should be more scared of the men or the woman

Ritzy in Birmingham, with a weird burger bar basically in the middle of a dance floor in a glass cube

A strange place in Gran Canaria that had one toilet in the corner of the dancefloor with very flimsy wood around it as a cubicle

And the strangest was Jumping Jacks in Lincoln - sofas and lounge type area on the way in.

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 03/11/2018 08:49

Ah I remember The Carlton redexpat - getting a bus there with a friend from Lancaster university, don't remember much about it apart from a cocktail involving Drambuie and fire.

BoooForYou · 03/11/2018 08:49

@HowOftenDoYouClean- surely you mean to give it it's correct title of Amadangerous? Wink
I swerved that one, far more of a Subs/Oasthouse girl.

I vote The Manor Club in Chatham. The bouncers were twats and the club ruined a brilliant alternative night by allowing trendies in to beat us goths up and then having bouncers who joined in.

My DH is rather offended by Mirage in Windsor getting a mention though

StoorieHoose · 03/11/2018 08:51

@PippaRabbit yes the Maniqui! By 1991 it hadnt improved! Rainbow Rocks in Stirling was rubbish too

MustBeTurtles · 03/11/2018 08:51

Seeing Pat Sharpe at Ikon/Diva was the highlight of our Fresher’s Week Blush You took your life in your hand getting the bus back to campus!!

BathFullOfEels · 03/11/2018 08:53

The Venue in Torquay circa 2002. A girl walked up to me, punched me in the face and a bouncer marched over and chucked me out for fighting. 16 years on and it’s still the closest I’ve ever got to being in a fight.

Oorwulliesbucket · 03/11/2018 08:54

Stoorie I've been to both of them, class Grin

scaredofthecity · 03/11/2018 08:56

Jesters in Southampton.

Scummy student club, we even had special 'jesters shoes' just for there. Walls, floors, ceilings everything was sticky and there was always vomit somewhere. 50p pints, jugs of snakebite and quad vods.

The Baywatch song was an unofficial anthem and on playing it everybody would strip. Nudity was very much normal!

Still look back at it with fond memories!

cricketmum84 · 03/11/2018 09:01

@claracluck78 I came on to mention Planet Earth and the revolving dance floor!!

It used to stop revolving at certain points in the night and the DJ would get us all to push it to get it going again 😂

Chosennonetosurvivethenight · 03/11/2018 09:02

Samantha's in Exmouth... known as the Royal Marines School of dancing. Cheap and cheerful pick up joint!
Coco Savannah (original name) in Stockport Grand Central! I went for an 18th and remember male strippers who were dwarves (how far away are they?) Confused

StoorieHoose · 03/11/2018 09:03

Good lass @Oorwulliesbucket! I’m proud to say I have NEVER been in the Fubar :)

SeaLionsOnMyShirt · 03/11/2018 09:07

The Crescent in Belfast in the early 90s. I still miss that place despite the walls/ceilings dripping in sweat, the sawdust covered floors, the not being able to move once you were shoved up to the dance floor upstairs via one rickety staircase, the watered down vodka (only £1 for 4 shots though) and the extremely dodgy bouncers.

TSSDNCOP · 03/11/2018 09:09

I’ve been to loads of these! I LOVE a terrible nightclub Bibas has karaoke on the top floor.

For those in Blackpool; I went to one where as the temperature rocketed it created condensation which in turn created black rain as the fag smoke got wet and dripped down.

And who can forget the universal shiteness of a Linnekars bar? High moment was walking into the Tenerife version as two British women fell to the ground fighting.

It was 6.30pm Shock

Aebj · 03/11/2018 09:11

Joanna’s in Portsmouth. Lol made me laugh that this has already been mentioned.
Carbob remember the tree😂😂

TillyVonMilly · 03/11/2018 09:11

I give you
Johnny’s nightclub in Huddersfield, beyond grim

iloveredwine · 03/11/2018 09:11

Fat Sam's and the coconut grove in Dundee.

Aebj · 03/11/2018 09:12

Catbot even😂😂

BathFullOfEels · 03/11/2018 09:15

Also Route 66 inTorquay (or any of the many clubs in Torquay 18 years ago). It was 66p a drink on Sunday nights. Our entire 6th form would go every Sunday then turn up hung over and stinking at school on Monday. There were also loads of random car parts and half a plane sticking out of the walls. My mate stood on a table there once and promptly knocked herself unconscious by hitting her head on the front of a planes propellors.
