The worst nightclub you've ever been to?

Ziggys, York c.1999. An old Regency townhouse that you would swear was still lived in. Sofas, scatter cushions, and chintz wallpaper on the walls - chintz wallpaper that actually started sweating by 10pm. The main dance floor was down in the basement with only one narrow staircase for access and which must have breached every single health and safety law known to man.

We only kept going because it was two WKD's for £1.50 on student night.

Jackies. Ross on Wye

Mid to late 80's- Cinderella Rockefeller's Kingston, I was underage, wearing a puffball skirt from Miss Selfridge and a scrunchie. It had twinkling lights in the tree out side, I thought it was dead classy.

Regals in Uxbridge- horrible just horrible.

Paradise Lost- in the middle of a shopping centre? Maybe Uxbridge again? I recall it had 3 dance floors in different levels, fake trees and water features?

Samantha's - Bond Street (or just off) first London club. Again underage! Down stairs to a small club which had swings at the bar, thought it was amazing!!

MixedMaritalArts · 03/11/2018 01:38

I was unfortunate enough to still be in Regals Uxbridge when the lights were switched on once, very diverse customer base too.
A Country Club just off the A40 far edge of Ruislip-ish , never been anywhere so hot the walls were sweating before.

Pagoda Park in Birmingham. As already stated above, the only good thing about the place was the DJ in the lift.

Eve’s in Wolverhampton back in the mid 80s, seem to remember it being on an industrial estate but can’t be certain as it was always dark when we went.

Pieceofpurplesky · 03/11/2018 01:43

TOTS Southend

MixedMaritalArts · 03/11/2018 01:54

@nksw Winkers still there if you fancy a revisit!

Amibeingnaive · 03/11/2018 02:18

I just knew Cinatra's and Caesar's would feature before I even clicked on this thread. Would also like to put in an honourable mention for The Works in Kingston.

mikapatika · 03/11/2018 02:39

The Dingo or Flamingo’s as it’s proper name which wasn’t even in a town but on the edge of a RAF village/base or the Dog and Duck in Cardiff

MrsTerryPratcett · 03/11/2018 02:54

Caesars in Streatham in the 90s, all you can drink included in entrance fee...alas I don’t remember much else.

I remember the mother and daughter on the pull wearing matching leopard skin outfits. Not enough bleach in the world.

ginandbearit · 03/11/2018 06:16

pieceofpurplesky I think TOTS has been mentioned in a very striking Woo thread about a ghostly and malevolent presence a poster saw there ..a very menacing young man ...will try and find it .

ginandbearit · 03/11/2018 06:27

I worked the cocktail bar of Brooksies which became Thursdays outside Chichester ....that was quite an experience , late 80's . I'm a bloke and thought I was reasonably clued up to the ways of the world at that stage ..never realised how er .forward ..women could be when on the pull...man I had some fun ....but also definite air of crime in the background and some very threatening geezers in 'management'

Venison · 03/11/2018 06:30

The G Spot in Blandford. Crappy club on an industrial estate in a garrison town. It depressing to go in and even worse to live on the route back to the army camp, shot on your doorstep anyone?

Venison · 03/11/2018 06:30

Shit

user1471462428 · 03/11/2018 06:35

I thought Ziggy’s was brilliant. It was Ikon and Diva that was awful sticky carpet, zPeter Andre and a bus to get there.

Dirtygirtyisthirty · 03/11/2018 06:43

@LadyGrey66 well EXACTLY! So so shit....but also it was the only option so....😆

buttheydo · 03/11/2018 06:52

Feeling so envious of those of you who got to experience Ziggy's! Sounds so cosy and original.

At the exact opposite of the scale would be the Viper Room in Portland Oregon. I spent the grimmest evening there, way back when. Pretensious and corporate vibe. 'Rock band' consisting of frowning Zoolander types playing completely out of tune music at the highest possible volume. Overpriced mixed drinks. Uncomfortable tiny seats. Huge crowd of ill-tempered 20-somethings.

Bromeliad · 03/11/2018 06:54

The Bamboo club, still going strong exactly how it was decorated originally in the sixties. The quotes from the owners in this article tell you everything you need to know!

bookworm14 · 03/11/2018 06:55

I’m amazed no one’s mentioned Klute in Durham yet. Voted the second worst nightclub in Europe, no less.

disconnecteddrifter · 03/11/2018 06:59

I can't believe how many of us went to ziggys. I still refute the negative claims about it. It was my Wednesday night go to! I loved silks/the gallery on a Monday and Toffs was ok on a Tuesday. Ikon and diva rings a bell but I seem to have blocked it out so must have been a hellhole!

ihopeyouwitchesareready · 03/11/2018 06:59

motherwell point
Charlie's in bellshill
id be surprised if anyone even knew these clubs as very local to me.

Justgotobed · 03/11/2018 07:57

Yes I remember Motherwell point & Hamilton palace, sticky carpets & giant bird cages to dance in! Grin

Bythepath · 03/11/2018 08:07

Ikon/diva on a Monday, Toffs on a Tuesday, Ziggys on a Wednesday and the Gallery on Thursday. Such fun memories of rubbish clubs.

pinkmagic1 · 03/11/2018 08:23

Not so much a club but a late bar called Liberty's in Nottingham. Sticky carpets and sleazy men but we loved it as 15 year olds!

Xuli · 03/11/2018 08:29

claracluck78 and disconnecteddrifter, obviously the Gallery was the best, apart from of you for caught in a mosh pit of Langwith rugby players in the downstairs dance floor.

Ikon was just an arse to get to on the coach. But I did got together with my now husband in Ikon so it has fond memories Wink

Ah the Pink Coconut brings back many memories...

Also the Black Orchid on the outskirts of Nottingham with the gallery upstairs where the guys used to hang over leering at all the women dancing. Proper cattle market!
