The worst nightclub you've ever been to?

Ziggys, York c.1999. An old Regency townhouse that you would swear was still lived in. Sofas, scatter cushions, and chintz wallpaper on the walls - chintz wallpaper that actually started sweating by 10pm. The main dance floor was down in the basement with only one narrow staircase for access and which must have breached every single health and safety law known to man.

We only kept going because it was two WKD's for £1.50 on student night.

Minskys in Long Eaton.
When you know you know! Lol

TheHandmaidsTail · 03/11/2018 09:18

Oh god and some awful over and under 25 (I think) club off junction 10 of the M6. Saints and Sinners or Angels and Demons? Something dreadful.

yakari · 03/11/2018 09:24

*iloveredwine' I knew Fat Sams and Coconut Grove would pop up 😆

@BathFullOfEels do you remember all you can drink for £12 at valbonnes.
Or generally Bohemia/Claire’s?

MorningsEleven · 03/11/2018 09:25

@claracluck78

I met my husband in Goodricke bar. Kicking out time was always fun 🤔 when the women behind the bar would start flicking the lights off and on.

augustusglupe · 03/11/2018 09:27

PiggyPlumPie The Black Orchid...which later became Isis Grin
I was a bit old for those clubs tbh
Early80s...Rock City was all sticky floors, but god it was brilliant!!
Madison Nottingham, late 80s, full of middle aged men, sleazy, thought it was the best club in Nottm..it wasn’t!!
Not really got any other bad memories of Notts clubs, I had a great time, but it seems most places went downhill late 80s/90s.

Shenanagins · 03/11/2018 09:30

Tuxedo Princess in Glasgow. Truly scary place!

ClashCityRocker · 03/11/2018 09:36

Oh god as soon as I saw this thread I thought ziggys in York. Total death trap. I took my mum once and all she kept saying was 'what if there's a fire?'

More recently, and not strictly a nightclub - the willow in York, now closed.

It was meant to be a Chinese restaurant but after a certain time of night it transformed into a bar-club type place.

It was minging.

They used to serve £1 shots of something that tasted like battery acid, all served from a tiny bar by the chinese restaurant staff. The toilets and dance floor were covered with a thin sheen of vomit at all times.

The alcoves were full of barely legals surreptitiously tossing each other off, and I frequently saw people pissing in them.

They used to have the biggest stamp as well, going from your elbow to your wrist like a dubious tattoo so everyone bloody knew you'd been.

You would have to be absolutely mad to eat in there if you'd seen what went on.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 03/11/2018 09:37

School Disco in Hammersmith. Complete meat market.

chipsandpeas · 03/11/2018 09:44

@PippaRabbit ahhh by the time i went to the maniqui in about 95/96 they used to have giant tv screens round the dance floor showing the cartoon network was bizarre

Oorwulliesbucket · 03/11/2018 09:47

Stooriehoose I was to old for fubar, and in worse news I did frequent Toledo junction Paisley! I'm surprised it's not been mentioned yet Grin

Screamqueenz · 03/11/2018 09:47

Barry Nobel's Roxy in Sheffield (get yersen darn).

Sticky floors meat market of the 80's.

Titsywoo · 03/11/2018 09:48

Ah I loved the Blue Orchid in Croydon. The 80's room was the best! There was a bar called the Cafe Moonshine next door that everyone went to first and the really pretty girls would get escorted through a door behind the bar straight into the club by the bouncers (never happened to me!). And at 3am the chicken shop on St Georges Walk was everyones go to destination. Classy days Grin.

Inertia · 03/11/2018 09:54

The Razz is not so much a nightclub as a scientific experiment to cultivate hitherto undiscovered strains of mould and fungus.

Stoneagemum · 03/11/2018 09:57

@BathFullOfEels
That wasn't a foam party was it? And if so did you grope the tits of someone with glow bands down their top?
If so it was me that hit you, yes you got chucked out, but the gang you had waiting for me outside was not funny

Witchofzog · 03/11/2018 09:57

@Eigkenz. I think it was Harper's in Guildford that was the old cinema. You were always guaranteed a snog in there if you wanted one Grin

MarthasGinYard · 03/11/2018 10:01

Not really a club but does anyone remember the 5's In Aldershot

Stoneagemum · 03/11/2018 10:01

@Penisbeakerismyfavethread I sure remember the & 12 quid nights- do you remember the Monroes to Monastery tickets?

user1496704878 · 03/11/2018 10:02

I have been asked to give a big shout out to Henry Africa's in Scunthorpe. Yes an 80's club with a Jungle theme right on the high street. Apparently page 3 girls would tour the clubs of north and it was a massive deal when these ladies turned up for an hour, with their bangers out and you could have you photo taken with them. ConfusedConfusedConfused

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 03/11/2018 10:02

Mumsnet in Nottingham when it was still called that. I only went because other people in sixth for went. Had podium dancers but don't think the DJ actually DJ 'd since you' d oftn hear the same shitty mainstream track multiple times.
Scary place full of sleasy men, so. E of which were with clearly underage girls.

workshyfop · 03/11/2018 10:02

bookworm I won’t hear a word said against Klute in Durham. Had many a fine night in there in the late 80s/early 90s. Sometimes followed by a drunken swim in the river afterwards Grin

MarthasGinYard · 03/11/2018 10:08

'Henry Africa's in Scunthorpe.'

That did make me chuckle

pinkmagic1 · 03/11/2018 10:10

Do you mean MGM JohnMcCainsDeathStare? That was also a regular haunt of mine age 15 circa 1994, dreadful place looking back.

wildbhoysmama · 03/11/2018 10:13

shenanigans Jeez I forgot about Tuxedo Princess- I went twice ( under duress) and I concur : bloody awful! Just because it was a boat did not make it exotic! Similarly awful was Gloss in Hamilton ( now the palace?) was dragged there for a hen night 1990- classic sticky carpets, disco balls and men who were aghast at ' birds from Glasgow who were up themselves for not fancying a grope'. There was a slow dance at the end- we Sub club chicks wondered if there had been time travel back to 1975?

Been to Toledo junction- wasn't that bad! School.disco in Hammersmith was, indeed, a meat market, but I seem to remember snogging two guys, so all good!!!

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 03/11/2018 10:18

I did mean MGM, was a casualty of Autocorrect! It was such a skeezy dump and so up itself. I remember a scary woman draping herself on me asking me how old she was? I think she had to be high.

I remember the Tuxedo Princess. It had dancers and a revolving dance floor. Went there in 2001, thought it was 1981
