The worst nightclub you've ever been to?

Ziggys, York c.1999. An old Regency townhouse that you would swear was still lived in. Sofas, scatter cushions, and chintz wallpaper on the walls - chintz wallpaper that actually started sweating by 10pm. The main dance floor was down in the basement with only one narrow staircase for access and which must have breached every single health and safety law known to man.

We only kept going because it was two WKD's for £1.50 on student night.

The 1995 venue of The Cookie Club in Nottingham was awful, like somebody's house! Newer venue marginally better!

the Irish in Nottingham as PP said was a dump but ALWAYS had a great night there! And they served burger and chips there too!

Cuca -Mara in Nottingham is a cocktail bar night club that's still dire, well It was the last time I went - strangely i went whilst st uni many times and remember one night sitting outside the backdoors because it was hot, was in a big raised plant bed, I realised the next morning walking into my temp holiday job st a solicitors that it was their courtyard we were sitting in lol!

There was a dreadful club in Petersfield in Hampshire but don't even recall the name - no choices there though lol!

Bibas in Bromley was a true shit hole

I think Caesers In Streatham was my first nightclub at the grand age of 16 ..... loved it! I recall going in like a suit type outfit lol though this would have been then later 1980's

We used to hear about other students going to the Pink Coconut in Derby and we were jealous .... clearly Rock City ... our usual destination was much better lol 😆

DonkeyPunch88 · 04/11/2018 14:03

Yes I remember the Weymouth ones! Verdi's was where everyone went to buy drugs! Malibu served some very odd milky cocktails too

MsMiaWallace · 04/11/2018 14:28

Rock city is still a top night!

Addisons in Blackpool, sleazy married men in their 30s or 40s in looking for young chicks to get off with. Also one night I was there a foreign woman was getting shagged in the corner by some pissed up Blackpool local.

Cranberry18 · 04/11/2018 14:40

I forgot to add there she didn't seem to able to speak any English so no clue as to where she was from.

flumpybear · 04/11/2018 14:51

I forgot Iceni in Mayfair - expensive shit hole

Mammyloveswine · 04/11/2018 14:54

Hahaha came on to say Ziggys after seeing the thread title... loved the cheese room upstairs!

A female bouncer once bought me a drink (vk orange) because she said I was dressed the best [preens].

Mammyloveswine · 04/11/2018 14:55

Also... I'm.sure it's been mentioned upthread but THE WILLOW! Sadly no more but a bizarre mixture of cans of beer, cheesy pop music and prawn crackers... another of York's finest!

Frogletmamma · 04/11/2018 14:57

A brilliant club but possibly the most dangerous I have ever been to was THE DOME, BIRMINGHAM c1992. There basically was a giant metal dome shaped climbing frame around the dance floor which bouncers tried to stop people climbing while drunk. Eventually I think they got on to health and safety as it was replaced by some lasers. Much to our disappointment.

Weebitawks · 04/11/2018 15:28

april20 did you ever go to Casino in Guildford when it was “Drink”? It was DIRE. They hadn’t poles “that only woman were allowed on) and four poster beds, again, only woman allowed. Didn’t reslise and was chatting to my mate when a panicked bouncers came and shooed him awa.

I’m guessing all the people talk8ng about Guildford have never suffered the horror of a night out in Woking. Notably “Cameleon”. Awful and there were more bouncers on the door to the KFC across the road.

FairfaxHigh · 04/11/2018 15:40

@Bowchicawowow DH misspent a fair bit if his youth in Pemps. Sadly, by the time I met him his friend had so pissed off Barbara by trying to insert his head through the window of the jeep she used to sit in to vet potential punters they were all on a lifetime ban.

Now The Plaza and Martines down the road in St Helens, they were two crap clubs I did experience Grin

MaMisled · 04/11/2018 15:49

Pacha /Pasha? Ibiza in the 80s. I was groped and molested continuously for the hour it took me to get in then find my way straight out again!

ToEarlyForDecorations · 04/11/2018 15:55

Don't know about Cameleon but was Quake in Woking any good ? Did you ever go to Planets or Fantails ?

What about ICBC or Duvals as it then became.

The Drink in Guildford became Harpers because it was owned by Michael Harper. He tried and tried to get a gambling licence to turn it into a casino but was turned down each time.

DollyWilde · 04/11/2018 16:50

@toearly I used to go to the alt night at Quake, always good fun. Good crowd.

Vague memories of trying to get into chameleon underage and failing which was unheard of - the shame!

Had my 18th in Harpers, same night Amele from the sugababes kicked off in Bar Mambo next door. Although obviously that paled in significance to Cheryl and the toilet attendant in The Drink - I used to use that story at uni when people north of London asked where I was from and had no idea where I meant when I said Guildford Grin

Pericombobulations · 04/11/2018 17:09

lol @CaribooSasquatch could be - I was there throughout the 90's. Was definately an Underworld girl, visiting Rios for the magificent Friday Goth night in the side room!

Pickwicks was a meat market feel kind of place, you may have seen my DH there in the Rugby Squad - doing what they were famous for!

Bowchicawowow · 04/11/2018 17:10

That’s funny Fairfax.

Pericombobulations · 04/11/2018 17:12

Forgot to mention in Bradford dives, Champaynes, another basement club. Spent Millennium Night DJ'ing there! Enough said as I was the only person sober enough to do so!

onemouseplace · 04/11/2018 17:26

I had totally forgotten Michael Harper's even existence until he was mentioned on this thread - I used to work in Guildford very close to The Drink and he was always a massive source of gossip/ controversy. Didn't his Mum run that jewellery shop that was just round the corner from The Drink?

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/11/2018 18:41
