Please can you help my DD?

I have name changed because I might show DD this thread.

DD is 10. Since she was a baby she has had a much loved teddy. Currently she sleeps with it and will cuddle it if she is upset. It stays in her bedroom.

Recently she has become convinced that she should not have teddy any more. She thinks others would say it is babyish to still have a teddy.

What do you think? Is it OK for a 10 year old to have a teddy at night? What age should she give it up?

My DS age 11 brings his teddy everywhere, even on holiday.

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 03/10/2018 21:35

Tell her I'm 41 and currently away from home due to work. On my pillow is a tiny cuddly hippo that I've had for about 15 years. He makes me feel better when I'm homesick. Age doesn't mean anything, it's love that counts!

Canshopwillshop · 03/10/2018 21:41

My 2 DC aged 14 and 11 still have their favourite teddies in bed. I still have mine on my bedside table.

My lovely bear is a bit too aged to sleep in the bed (her middle seems to escape in an alarming fashion)but she oversees my every dream from the bedside. I am 48

Wonkypalmtree · 03/10/2018 21:41

I am 43 and just checked with DH that my cuddly toy is safe, he is. It’s good to keep these things

BigEaredBob · 03/10/2018 21:43

For all of you with treasured teddies, have you seen this lady? www.soggyrabbit.com

I really want to get one done!

southnownorth · 03/10/2018 21:44

My 11 and 16 year old still have their bears at night,

enjoy your teddy for as long as you need!

AlpacaLypse · 03/10/2018 21:45

My snuggly friend from childhood is still in my bed. One of my biggest problems is preventing AlpacaDog or AlpacaCat from eating, licking, or chewing it to pieces. At least AlpacaHusband doesn't do that sort of thing.

I'm 53...

Crankywitch · 03/10/2018 21:46

I love this thread. I wish I had a teddy.

CountryPlumpkin · 03/10/2018 21:48

Bob T Bear and Teddy still share my bed along with my DH. I am 41.
No one is too old for a special shnuggly toy. They chase away the bad dreams, keep your secrets safe and know you best of all.

AlpacaLypse · 03/10/2018 21:50

I did put my snuggly friend away for the duration of AlpacaKids. I love both our daughters dearly of course but felt it was important for them to form their own relationships with their own soft snuggly things ;-) And didn't want my soft snuggly thing to get trashed by them :-)

AlpacaLypse · 03/10/2018 21:52

So a rather floppy dalmatian dog and a very trashed giraffe are both attending university right now with AlpacaKids.

AlpacaLypse · 03/10/2018 21:53

And a snuggly soft thing that used to look like a teddy has moved back in to my bed.

Dinosharks · 03/10/2018 21:54

I'm 33 still have my childhood teddy and a few others. Also converted my DH to the wonders of bear hugs while you sleep. Your never too old for a teddy (or teddy alternative)

madcatladyforever · 03/10/2018 21:54

I have replaced my teddy with cats.

AlpacaLypse · 03/10/2018 21:55

Although it may have to move out again soon as I think I may have agreed to adopt a rescue dog...

AlpacaLypse · 03/10/2018 21:56

But only if AlpacaCat thinks its okay. Watch this space.

Thatstheendofmytether · 03/10/2018 21:58

My 10 year old DS has a blanket I used for him as a baby, he still sleeps with it in his bed. He wouldn't be seen dead in front of his friends with it though so if we have sleepovers here I have to hide it 😂 and he doesn't take it with him if he sleeps over.
I think it's absolutely fine, she's not taking it with her places just keeping it as a wee comforter.

LilyChantilly · 03/10/2018 22:03

My 11 year old DS who has just started secondary school sleeps with a whole host of soft toy animals and takes a couple with him whenever he or we go away. His friends have some too and as far as I know none of them think it's odd or babyish. He's pretty grown up in many respects and acts like a teenager a lot of the time but he unashamedly loves his soft animals! And I'm a grown ass woman but I still have some of my childhood soft toys and love them deeply Bear

errorofjudgement · 03/10/2018 22:08

My 17 year old DD still has her teddy in her bed every night, she’s looking pretty bedraggled (teddy not DD) but she is much loved!

cindersrella · 03/10/2018 22:09

Don't give up the teddy!!

I love my teddy and I'm 32. I have two sisters too who are 31 and 35 and they have a favourite teddy too! They are the ones from when we were younger!

I also have several bag fills in the loft that I love and cannot get rid of. I think I have a teddy problem xx

ScattyCharly · 03/10/2018 22:10

My nearly teen boy loves his teddies still.

ChefsFloozie · 03/10/2018 22:11

I still sleep with mine and I'm 36. DH has his sitting next to him and he's 44!

EleanorLavish · 03/10/2018 22:11

My teenage son cuddles his teddy to sleep every night, and brings it on holidays etc in his back pack in case it gets lost in luggage.
Keep your teddy!

Xiaoxiong · 03/10/2018 22:13

DH is in his 30s and has a Tintin doll that has been so well loved that the middle of the doll has become soft and floppy. He will tolerate the DSs touching Tintin but it makes him visibly twitchy!!
