Please can you help my DD?

I have name changed because I might show DD this thread.

DD is 10. Since she was a baby she has had a much loved teddy. Currently she sleeps with it and will cuddle it if she is upset. It stays in her bedroom.

Recently she has become convinced that she should not have teddy any more. She thinks others would say it is babyish to still have a teddy.

What do you think? Is it OK for a 10 year old to have a teddy at night? What age should she give it up?

My Mum got rid of my favourite teddy when I was about 12. I was heartbroken.and never forgot about it. I've still got my favourite doll though and I'm older than 30. I'm never getting rid of her!

TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey · 03/10/2018 20:58

I still have my teddy from when i was born. He is worn out from love. He was a portly beanie bear. He is now bottom heavy and a little baggy in the chest area. He is very small. He fits on the palm of my hand now. I recently found his brother on ebay and tried to buy him. I am 41.

BifsWif · 03/10/2018 20:58

I’m 34 and still have mine Smile

pinkhorse · 03/10/2018 21:01

I've got two that I sleep with and im in my thirties!

Ikeepbuyinganimals · 03/10/2018 21:02

I'm 28 and I still have mine. He lives in the wardrobe usually as he's getting very worn out now but he will make an appearance if I have a very sad day - and my husband accepts in this scenario he comes second in the cuddle ranks 😂

Gabilan · 03/10/2018 21:03

I'm mid 40s. I have my grandma's teddy. He must be over 100 now.

Deltaquinn · 03/10/2018 21:03

Yep! 39. My old rabbit still sleeps in my room with me. She's got to keep looking after him!

Parky04 · 03/10/2018 21:05

My DS17 still has a teddy (well it actually looks nothing like a teddy now!) it still sits on his bed.

motortroll · 03/10/2018 21:06

I only stopped having mine in my bed with me when I moved in with now dh. I was 26. I still have my teddies.

schoty77 · 03/10/2018 21:06

Don't get rid of it, she will regret it. I still have mine, he lives in a box in the cupboard with DH's!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/10/2018 21:06

I am 56 and I still got the one my sister gave me when I left home more than 30 years ago. it is in my bed right now.

DD just turned 18 - her bear is almost completely made up of patches and repairs and still with her.

DS is 16 and the bear he got for his christening is still with him, too.

You are never too old.

TroysMammy · 03/10/2018 21:07

I've got two and I'm 50. Little Ted lives in my knickers drawer and Chi Chi my panda sits on top of a wardrobe. They have bald patches where I plucked their fur out and I "repaired" Chi Chi's nose badly but I'd never get rid of them.

Teddydilemma · 03/10/2018 21:07

Thank you everyone. I have shown DD this thread and she has now gone to bed with her teddy.

She has been having a rough time recently and worries about what friends might say really doesn't help.

DS (13) has 3 reduces in his bed. I have 2 on my headboard and when my DSis (42) comes to visit she brings her teddy. Nothing babyish about teddies.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 03/10/2018 21:09

I'm 32 and still have my teddy and doggy in my bedroom

MrsPMT · 03/10/2018 21:10

Not 'reduces' teddies . Autocorrect so annoying at times!

MipMipMip · 03/10/2018 21:11

This is Donkey. Even MipHound knows not to touch him. I am 32.

My grandparents had a rabbit that slept on the pillow between them. We made sure rabbit was with them when they were sick.

Going back a few years I can remember in secondary school a fad for people to have teletubby backpacks. Cuddly ones. Not exactly practical but never mocked by anyone.

Please can you help my DD?
LondonJax · 03/10/2018 21:13

I know she's off to bed now but just wanted to say our DS - who's just gone to senior school - takes his teddy bear everywhere (except school). His best friend takes his cuddly dog wherever he goes and all the kids who went on the year 6 residential took a cuddly toy with them - and that included the toughest kids in the school.

I was handed a spare teddy bear by DS to take to bed when I wasn't too well recently and I felt better very quickly - the magic of a teddy cuddle!

Fadingmemory · 03/10/2018 21:13

I still have Edward Bear. He is 65.

gimbles · 03/10/2018 21:13

I still love my ted. I'm over 40z

Wigeon · 03/10/2018 21:14

My DD aged 10 /Year 6 always has at least one cuddly, and quite often several, in bed with her. Sometimes there isn’t much room for her! She also takes one if she /we go away for the night. Why not?!

Why does your DD even need to mention it to her friends if she is worried what they might think?

FrangipaniBlue · 03/10/2018 21:15

I've still got mine and I'm 37 Smile

DS(10) also has his favourite 2 from he was a baby, they sit on his headboard.

Plus he has a more recent (2yrs?) one that he sometimes still sleeps with!

BananaBreadHead17 · 03/10/2018 21:15

Another one here who still has her bear 🐻

tempname111 · 03/10/2018 21:17

11year old DS adores his Eeyore. He's had it since day 1 and has been everywhere with him. I'm mightily fond of him also Smile

I lost my teddy (imaginatively called "Teddy" Grin ) in my late teens. He was as plain as plain can be. I hold some vain hope he might be languishing in my DM's attic somewhere but we don't get on and I will squeal with joy if I see him again!
