Please can you help my DD?

I have name changed because I might show DD this thread.

DD is 10. Since she was a baby she has had a much loved teddy. Currently she sleeps with it and will cuddle it if she is upset. It stays in her bedroom.

Recently she has become convinced that she should not have teddy any more. She thinks others would say it is babyish to still have a teddy.

What do you think? Is it OK for a 10 year old to have a teddy at night? What age should she give it up?

28 here and still have mine. Several in fact. Still sleep with my favourite one and still hug him when I need a good cry and I would kick my DP out of the bed if he dared suggest that Albert shouldn't be there. DP never would comment, he knows where he ranks. Grin

You're never too old for a teddy. My DD is 14 and still sleeps with hers.

Lovethetimeyouhave · 03/10/2018 21:21

Ah you guys are making me sad, I gave Ds (6) my teddy and now wish I never in a round about way, poor teddy

Iizzyb · 03/10/2018 21:22

I slept with mine until I was 12 and he got left behind in a hotel on a school trip. I would still have him now if not. Xx

We also have very strict rules about where ds' teddy is allowed to go!

AdoraBell · 03/10/2018 21:23

85 yr old FIL still has his childhood teddy bear.

Judydreamsofhorses · 03/10/2018 21:23

My furry dog shares the bed with me and DP, and often our cat. Both the dog and I are 45. DP also has a teddy which sits on the spare bed. He’s 43. The cat has the most toys though, and she is only four.

littlemissalwaystired · 03/10/2018 21:25

I'm 22 and still have a rather large collection in bed with me and DP. There's not actually much room left for himGrin

B00kworm86 · 03/10/2018 21:26

I'm 32 and still have mine!

Dobbythesockelf · 03/10/2018 21:26

I have had my childhood stuffed pig for 28 years until last year when my dd took a liking to him and now he sleeps with her. Still miss having him at the foot of my bed tbh.

BikeRunSki · 03/10/2018 21:27

DS is 10. He has his best teddy, who he takes to bed and cuddles when he’s feeling low. He wouldn’t take him on Cub camp or on his school residential.

BrownPaperTeddy · 03/10/2018 21:28

I'm in my 40s and still have my teddy.

You are never too old.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 03/10/2018 21:28

My dd is 15 and goes away with a school group every year for a dance competition and loads of them boys and girls take a teddy or a blanket away with them as a home comfort so you’re dd should cud’s her teddy with pride.

katmarie · 03/10/2018 21:29

My sister had hers until her mid thirties, and she only gave him up to give him to her ds. No one said a word, (although I think it was a bit of a wrench for her!). I still have mine and I'm nearly 37, so I think your daughter is fine :)

Verbena87 · 03/10/2018 21:29

I think I stopped having mine in the bed by about 16 or 17ish, but still kept him close by until I left home at 20.

bibbidybobbidyboo · 03/10/2018 21:29

I lost the the I'd had since I was a baby when I took it on holiday aged 13. I was devastated. My DP bought me a new one when I was 20 and I've kept it ever since!

Verbena87 · 03/10/2018 21:30

(I didn’t take him with me as he was my mum’s first and I felt wrong taking him far away from her!)

MrsMozart · 03/10/2018 21:31

DDs took theirs to uni. I still have my first teddy, as do my sisters.

Menolly · 03/10/2018 21:31

I used to work at a residential center, think PGL type place, so have had literally hundreds of children on residentials over the years, the majority have a little teddy or similar, even a lot of the teenagers.

Ginger1982 · 03/10/2018 21:32

I've still got mine. Sleeps with me and DH. I'm 35 😆

IJustLostTheGame · 03/10/2018 21:34

I have my grandpa's teddy.
He was with him until the day he died, then with me and now watches over dd.
He's too old to cuddle now as he has no hair and his seams are beginning to go and release sawdust, so he sits on the shelf overlooking her bed.
He has 100 years of doing his job so fae and is still going.
Tell your dd there is no shame in teddies.

chibsortig · 03/10/2018 21:34

My DD is 12 and still sleeps with bear and blanky both of which she has had since birth they are grubby and grey looking but well loved. They accompany her on sleep overs at her grandmas and have been on camp, but now they tend to stay at home keeping watch over her bed.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a cuddly teddy at any age.

marshallzumarubble · 03/10/2018 21:34

I still cuddle my childhood teddy every night. And she comes away with us. I am 34. And tell her that my 6'4" 36 year old DH who is a fireman also has his childhood toy, although I often the one that cuddles it!

PerverseConverse · 03/10/2018 21:35

My 11 year old still sleeps with her Taggie and muslin cloth and always has done. She changes her beanie boo teddy regularly but Taggie is a constant.
I snuggled with my teddy well into my 20s and would happily still do so but my children have got him.
The year 6 residential at our school encourages everyone to take a teddy. Including teachers.
