Amazon have stolen my money...

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 29/09/2018 23:50

DH and I ordered a laptop for DD’s birthday. It was ‘Amazon’s choice’... we did research and it was about £10 cheaper from amazon plus we have prime so free delivery.

Today they delivered the ‘laptop’

It’s signed for, definitely in a laptop shaped box.. but includes a hell of a lot of packaging and a ‘box o baubles’ a very cheap strip of Christmas decorations. About the size of a pint glass. Very disguised in obvious laptop shaped box. We’ve never ordered this!

If you go on to amazon it says ‘this was handed to resident’ re the laptop.

So as long as they hand you a Box it doesn’t matter what’s in it???

Apparently there’s nothing I can do.

Wtf??

Take a photo of what you received and raise it with Amazon?

BrokenFlipflop · 29/09/2018 23:54

That's shite. So you've spoken to Amazon and they've said that there is nothing that can be done? Was it a 'fulfilled by Amazon' order?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/09/2018 23:54

Have you phoned them or done a web chat. Make sure you have some photos to hand. Does the postage have the weight on it anywhere, there's a hell of a difference in weight between baubles and a laptop.

Have they actually refused to consider a claim?

vinegarqueen · 29/09/2018 23:55

So disappointing! You should be perfectly within your rights to return whatever it was they gave you, because the product wasn't as described, and to expect a full refund. Also posting a bad review will warn others off.

tectonicplates · 29/09/2018 23:56

Did you pay by credit card? I'd complain to Amazon first, but if they're unhelpful then your credit card company might help get your money back. Sounds like a scam.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 00:00

Didn’t pay through credit card, paid on normal debit card that’s on the account.

Called them just now and they need us to send it back so they can see it... so that’s £400 odd pounds... but what’s more upsetting is that we’re going on holiday this week (And will have my DD’s birthday abroad, searchable as I’ve posted about how to present this gift before)... and now she’s not going to have her present.

They weren’t helpful and said repeatedly that we ‘signed for it’. (It was actually DH’s mum as she was babysitting)

Have you actually called them? 8ve never had an issue with getting a resolution when I've actually rang them

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 00:01

Do you know where we might see the weight??

ScreamingValenta · 30/09/2018 00:03

If you don't get anywhere with Amazon, you could ask your bank to raise a debit card chargeback.

tectonicplates · 30/09/2018 00:04

Even if you paid on a debit card, your bank might still be able to help you. It will take longer than a credit card dispute, but it can sometimes be done so it's well worth phoning them.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 30/09/2018 00:07

Tbf to Amazon, they aren’t just going to give you £400 back without investigating- if they did everyone would claim for goods not delivered. At least give them the chance to rectify before accusing them of stealing

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 00:07

Surely anyone could say this though? Where’s my proof? A box, laptop sized, was signed for at my address.

Why would they believe me??

I’m so upset.

OP posts:
MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 00:09

EnglishGirl... the box didn’t have a laptop in it. It’s baducally my word against theirs and that’s why I’m so upset. Not only are we out all that money but my DD doesn’t get her present? I can’t believe this.

OP posts:
SilverHairedCat · 30/09/2018 00:10

I've never looked for a weight, but have a good scour of the external labelling. Photograph absolutely everything.

tectonicplates · 30/09/2018 00:12

Who was the actual seller? Is it possible to phone them directly?

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 00:13

So we have the delivery driver on our security camera... shall we send the footage? DH seems convinced if it was weighed then it must be something after it left.

I don’t know what to do for the best. My poor DD. I can’t believe this.

OP posts:
MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 00:13

The seller was amazon!

OP posts:
SilverHairedCat · 30/09/2018 00:13

Was it fulfilled by Amazon? They'll have ways of investigating the packing line, I'm sure.

SilverHairedCat · 30/09/2018 00:16

If the packaging was intact, it may have been substituted at the packing stage, but retain the CCTV and let Amazon know you have it. They'll know who the driver was though, as that will be on their tracking info anyway. Unless your footage captured them tampering with the parcel, it's probably not much help.

ScreamingValenta · 30/09/2018 00:18

If you go via your bank, they'll be able to look at your account history, which I am guessing won't include multiple unproven claims of fraud. Debit card disputes fall under PSD2 regulation which sets very specific deadlines for any complaints to be resolved.

Buggerbrexit · 30/09/2018 00:19

Can you screenshot the page on amazon of the laptop? It sounds like it may have been sold through amazon but not by them?

Take lots of photos and send them. Insist on it being couriered back to them. Sounds very, very odd. Was there even a laptop box in it? What was the amazon box like? My experience of prime is he packeging is v easy to open.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 00:20

We use amazon a hell of a lot... I would say hundreds of pounds a year and definitely at least 1000 this year, we’ve Never complained before.

OP posts:
SilverHairedCat · 30/09/2018 00:21

What condition was the parcel in when it turned up?

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 00:24

Perfect condition
