Amazon have stolen my money...

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 29/09/2018 23:50

DH and I ordered a laptop for DD’s birthday. It was ‘Amazon’s choice’... we did research and it was about £10 cheaper from amazon plus we have prime so free delivery.

Today they delivered the ‘laptop’

It’s signed for, definitely in a laptop shaped box.. but includes a hell of a lot of packaging and a ‘box o baubles’ a very cheap strip of Christmas decorations. About the size of a pint glass. Very disguised in obvious laptop shaped box. We’ve never ordered this!

If you go on to amazon it says ‘this was handed to resident’ re the laptop.

So as long as they hand you a Box it doesn’t matter what’s in it???

Apparently there’s nothing I can do.

Wtf??

DD got a laptop for her 6TH birthday!! I obviously love her more and you don't love your DD as much as you think!

notapizzaeater · 30/09/2018 23:04

Have you tweeted them? That normally 'nudges' them 😙

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 23:05

Fiftyshades - I didn’t say that. I said I was upset that I couldn’t provide my child with her present, that I would be disappointed. And yes, she does deserve it.

Rebel, I’m so proud ;) beware of backlash. And ignore it!

This is nothing to do with how much OP wants to spend on a laptop for her DD, it is the fact that she ordered a laptop from Amazon which appears to be missing. Obviously OP is upset as it is a present but the fact remains that the laptop has gone missing and OP is out of pocket by £400

Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 30/09/2018 23:07

And when another poster said that that's what most parents would just have to do you said "your children are really lucky
Truly".

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 23:07

Not a pizza eater - good idea. Maybe tomorrow if no joy. Thanks.

What exactly are you trying to prove Fiftyshades... that you can read? Well done I guess? Good for you?

OP posts:
LydiaLunch7 · 30/09/2018 23:10

Surely anyone could say this though? Where’s my proof? A box, laptop sized, was signed for at my address. Why would they believe me??

You answered your own question:

We use amazon a hell of a lot... I would say hundreds of pounds a year and definitely at least 1000 this year, we’ve Never complained before

I imagine you will get your money back eventually. Just have to go through procedure.

Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 30/09/2018 23:10

I got my kids a triple monitor desktop computer and a whole bunch of Lego for his 7th birthday 2 weeks ago. I spent a lot. But I didn't get any grief for doing that from anyone else because I'd didn't sarcastically say things like "your kids are sooo lucky" to people who can't afford it.

Obviously what has happened is crap. And horribly annoying. And inconvenient. But it is being handled and being hysterical by saying they've stolen from you just makes you look a bit silly. In a week, if they say no, then go ahead and cause a riot but wait until then.

Ontheboardwalk · 30/09/2018 23:12

Can’t believe Mary is getting such a hard time. Tesco 'stole’ £4.80 from me and I was pissed off.

They’ve ordered something for £400, doesn’t matter what, and it hasn’t been delivered. I think we’d all be pissd off by that

Beesandfrogsandfleas · 30/09/2018 23:14

I dont understand posters saying "it wasn't amazons fault, it was the fault of someone who works for Amazon". What actually IS amazon other than its workers, it's not the bloody wizard of oz.

This is why I generally buy large purchases of this type from John Lewis or Apple or somewhere like that as sometimes its not worth it to save a tenner to get from some other online places.

Hope you get a resolution soon

Easynow · 30/09/2018 23:14

I hope you get a replacement asap OP.

Op you are fine - some strange posters are coming over as total dicks.

Buggerbrexit · 30/09/2018 23:16

Totally, and if you read the thread most posters were being helpful but understandably were trying to explain that process has to be followed given it’s a high price item. Posters asked about the weight, if it was direct from amazon and more specifics re the packaging to try to help.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 30/09/2018 23:16

The thing is you can speak to 75 people today and it won't make a difference. The first person submits an investigation and it is out of any ones hands till the investigation is complete within 48 hours. During that time you may be asked to sign an affidavit to state you didn't receive the product or asked for a police report if the parcel was intercepted. The parcel is weighed at the fulfilment centre not by the driver. Your account will be looked at and if you have a good history you will be refunded. But calling repeatedly won't do a thing. Just wait.

And if you didn't realise, I may or may not have insider info on the process due yo possibly maybe working there

LightastheBreeze · 30/09/2018 23:16

Someone I know ordered a satnav from Amazon and got a cheap book instead, they did get a satnav in the end though.

Buggerbrexit · 30/09/2018 23:17

Tlmummy, come on that’s not called for.

Oakmaiden · 30/09/2018 23:17

Actually, someone in the warehouse has stolen your laptop.

I doubt it. My son worked for Amazon, and they have really strict rules about not taking bags (or anything other than the clothes you are wearing) into the warehouse. I struggle to see how they could smuggle out a laptop.

More likely to be an error (something coded wrongly) or a delivery thing. But it will get sorted.

PrimalLass · 30/09/2018 23:17

Your travel insurance probably doesn't cover such an expensive item anyway, so it's a huge risk to take with you!

Don't be ridiculous. People travel with laptops every day.

NanooCov · 30/09/2018 23:17

You need to calm down. I understand it's annoying and potentially upsetting for your daughter (though I'm not sure I'd be taking a brand new laptop on hols anyway...) but it's been less then 24 hours since the delivery was received. Of course amazon are immediately not handing back your money - you could be making it all up. If it was a fulfilled by amazon order it will get sorted. An amazon marketplace seller will take a bit longer to resolve but again should work out. These things happen. We once ordered a stair gate and amazon delivered an electric keyboard. Just a picking/labelling mistake at the warehouse.
