Amazon have stolen my money...

DH and I ordered a laptop for DD’s birthday. It was ‘Amazon’s choice’... we did research and it was about £10 cheaper from amazon plus we have prime so free delivery.

Today they delivered the ‘laptop’

It’s signed for, definitely in a laptop shaped box.. but includes a hell of a lot of packaging and a ‘box o baubles’ a very cheap strip of Christmas decorations. About the size of a pint glass. Very disguised in obvious laptop shaped box. We’ve never ordered this!

If you go on to amazon it says ‘this was handed to resident’ re the laptop.

So as long as they hand you a Box it doesn’t matter what’s in it???

Apparently there’s nothing I can do.

Wtf??

My sister had a similar issue with a 'marketplace seller'. She tried for months to get her money back but she never did. It was a complete farce.

The seller said she couldn't return the item and they had proof that it was sent to her. She appealed. It was denied.

So now it’s my fault for choosing to spend £400 on my child?

Not that it matters, but we thought long and hard about it and felt it was the right decision. Thanks for your concern though... how much are you spending on your child? You know, just so I can judge if it’s too much or too little?

But you haven't yet lost £400. Give them a chance to resolve it for you before you post that they've 'stolen ' your money.

Of course, I definitely wrote “it’s your own fault for spending £400 on a kid” Biscuit

My daughter loves certain games, she is occasionally allowed to use my work laptop but it’s not ideal. She also gets homework online... she loves writing stories on the computer at my parents house and my DH is interested in teaching her coding as that is his business. So, yeah, we got her a laptop. Is that okay? Hmm

Amazon have essentially stolen my money.

I ordered and paid for an item. I haven’t received it. They’re not currently giving me my money back. I don’t know how else to define that??

I’ve been given lots of great advice which we are following. And am very grateful for that advice.

It you can afford to buy another one then you can hardly plead poverty, you obviously have another £400 to spare.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 22:27

I don’t have another ‘£400 to spare’

I am using money I have because I’m an adult with reserves. It’s not unlimited. But it’s my child’s birthday... what am I going to do? Say ‘sorry, amazon fucked up! Happy birthday though, here’s a card!’ 🤔

Amazon have not.

It is most likely one of their pickers has stolen the laptop and sent you something else. But they do need to investigate. Otherwise, every single one of us could say what you've said and all get our money back and keep all the free goodies. They have not told you no refund. They are allowed to investigate. But you came on here for advice, didn't answer questions which would help us help you and then you insulted posters. Not very nice...

Now, you've been asked several times what the weight on the label is. That could help you if it's too light to be a laptop. But you havnt answered.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 22:29

There’s no weight

And honestly, I think you're silly to take the laptop on holiday. Obviously if it's a working holiday, a person might need it. But it's not. And you are risking damage, loss and threat in a foreign country.

Your insurance might say they cover for their but holiday insurance rarely pays out for theft because their small print makes it almost impossible to meet the criteria. It's a huge problem.

She's old enough to have this as a gift then she's old enough to enjoy having her birthday while on holiday and then coming home to a surprise. Maybe you could get a family member to pop in with balloons shortly before you arrive home so she has a lovely surprise.

ohdeardeardear · 30/09/2018 22:32

If she is old enough to get a laptop she is old enough to understand there has been a cock-up but she will get it eventually. Such a drama llama.

Hanyu · 30/09/2018 22:32

But it’s my child’s birthday... what am I going to do? Say ‘sorry, amazon fucked up! Happy birthday though, here’s a card!’ 🤔

Well, that is what most people would do. 🤷‍♀️

MakeMineATwin2 · 30/09/2018 22:33

This is a tricky situation! I hope you get it sorted op.

Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 30/09/2018 22:34

I don't think I've ever had one without a weight. If it was fulfilled by a third party seller then occasionally, but not a proper Amazon one. I could be mistaken though.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 22:34

Fifty shades I considered that but we want to give her her presents on holiday on her actual birthday. I’m going to take it in my carry on.

This thread is so weird! I certainly wouldn’t just remain calm and not worry if I had basically had £400 stolen. I would remain calm if I knew for sure that the company was going to refund me, but OP doesn’t know that yet!

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 30/09/2018 22:35

Thanks Hanyu.. your kids are super lucky. Truly.

Hanyu · 30/09/2018 22:37

😂

Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 30/09/2018 22:37

@MaryPoppinsPenguins

Do you understand that some people live pay cheque to pay cheque. So if a present went missing like this, they actually would not have the emergency funds to buy another. So giving a card and explanation would be their only choice. And you make a flippant remark like that? "You're children are so luck".

You're vile. You really are.

Buggerbrexit · 30/09/2018 22:39

Your comments get better and better Hmm

ohdeardeardear · 30/09/2018 22:39

OP you come across as very superficial. Not a nice quality. Your child will understand. You do need to get a grip.

PattiStanger · 30/09/2018 22:39

Yes I 100% would tell my child that there 'd b een a cock up by amazon, why on earth wouldn't I?

But then my children are precious about presents on birthdays and my caring for them isn't measured in £££

Buggerbrexit · 30/09/2018 22:40

Out of interest, what age is she?
