OP posts:

I must offer my profound thanks to this thread for introducing me to the wonder of Screaming in the Sistine Chapel. I cried with laughter for a solid 15 minutes yesterday morning.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 24/09/2018 09:00

I have just remembered another MN Memory - the Bridezilla one. That one where the OP received a 'save the date' card but no invite to the wedding - as she was expected to save the date so that she could decorate the reception hall, for free for the 'happy couple'. I think that is how it went.
Took on a life of its own at one point and ran for about 4 or 5 threads....

HesterLee · 24/09/2018 09:03

I've found many funny threads on MN over the years but the only one to make me laugh out loud is this one

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/1452031-Please-recommend-your-best-buys-what-enharnce-your-life-But-but-but-they-cannot-cost-more-than-4-73

It's such simple humour and it's just a short bit that's not ramped up by the op.

SLoisachtal · 24/09/2018 09:09

IIRC the bride hadn't understood the significance of 'save the date' cards and had eventually not invited 20 people that she'd originally sent her STD cards to! But, yes, she then expected the OP to decorate the venue as she wasn't doing anything else that day!

Funnily enough, that year, a friend had also received a STD card but was subsequently not invited to the wedding. I couldn't help but wonder whether it was the same wedding?!

AngeloMysterioso · 24/09/2018 09:47

People really ought to link to these threads- no idea where the zombie/lemon drizzle cake/expat etc are to be found

glagdy · 24/09/2018 09:59

Embarrassed to not remember the details so we'll as it was in the last couple of years but a mumsnetter needed a lift to or from an operation and had nobody to help and a lovely mumsnetter picked her up and dropped her home and got her all settled in. Made me all weepy at how kind it was.

Personally, when I was pregnant about 5 years ago there was a bunch of us saying how ma everything made us and how crazy we'd gone.

And a few years ago when I had a burst ovarian cyst and nobody would help me with ds or getting to the hospital and just the lovely comments on Mumsnet meant SO much to me.

glagdy · 24/09/2018 10:01

And the one recently where op ended up going out in a unicorn costume and putting up a picture. I think it was a parking thread, someone had parked on the corner of her street and the police came. Very funny.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/09/2018 21:21

Just remembered another one. The night HoneyDragon found a secret portal on MN which allowed us to post secret posts.

LanguidLobster · 24/09/2018 21:29

Was there really a secret portal...?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/09/2018 21:43

Until tech closed it. Can’t remember how, but there was a glitch that allowed you to start threads that didn’t appear on any board or active convos.

ParisNext · 24/09/2018 22:00

Somerville's romance. A real life Richard Curtis film. Just a fab read and in Classics.

Screaming at Michaelangelo

Aridane · 25/09/2018 05:13

Threads that I didn’t find funny but others did: T Rex, Pom Bears, hamster in the casserole, streams of shit

BertrandRussell · 25/09/2018 07:31

Do people really “cry laughing” over whole threads? I think the most i’ve ever managed is the occasional grin, or a laugh at an individual post.....

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 25/09/2018 07:48

Well, I certainly don't. Not even the genuine (ie not made up bollocks, like 99% of the threads in classics) funny ones made me cry/wee/spill tea. Yes, I have laughed. Yes, I have admired the wit of ordinary people saying ordinary things, but, especially in recent years, the almost daily "funniest thing I've ever read" bollocks makes me think that people need to a) stop being so gullible b) get out more. Half the threads mentioned on here I am convinced were made up. Especially the ones over the last 5 years. (PS I see we are still in no paragraph hell- I can use them, honest)

BertrandRussell · 25/09/2018 08:05

Actually, the thing that makes me laugh are the witty/funny user names. I really liked MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours. Still makes me smile. Can’t remember anything else about the poster concerned!

PhilomenaButterfly · 25/09/2018 08:10

Yes Bertrand, I do. I don't know why people think that's made up. Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 25/09/2018 08:14

I agree with Book. I have never cried with laughter over a thread. Enjoyed and raised a smile but no waking the cat up or spitting hot beverages out. I also think some threads were better 'live' and re reading them from Classics knowing there won't be any updates leaves me cold.

I really love the threads where people come on a give you little snippets of their lives - like this one... Have you ever met a stranger...
