There are a few threads I have genuinely cried with laughter at:

Penetration Man

Brian From Hull (my yoni says noni)

One called I think 'If You Fart in the Bath...' which ended up being about really gross bodily functions

Lemon Drizzle - I just remember Fuck. You. Bitch - the OP was so funny (all the 'punch the cake' replies not so much).

Also, Sean, Daniel or Balonz was really funny, just because the OP was so poker faced about it and played it brilliantly, and watching the confusion unfold amongst the replies was hilarious. Best troll thread ever!

Penis beaker, fat balls, booble plate etc I didn't find that funny.

0hCrepe · 25/09/2018 18:51

I genuinely cry laughing, most recently at the embarrassing mistakes thread. But I do cry laughing in real life quite easily too.

anitagreen · 25/09/2018 21:16

The Sharon thread done me in last night I got the part where someone said Adam who works at Tesco? Thanks for clearing that up every little helps 😭😩😩😂

PunkrockerGirl59 · 25/09/2018 22:41

I showed my dh the thickos on trip advisor thread the other day and yes, bertrand we were crying with laughter. It does happen and it's ok to do so Confused

altiara · 25/09/2018 23:17

I joined MN years ago and what sucked me back in more recently (although could be a few years) was a thread on lunch being stolen from the work fridge, also one on cakes being made in sandwich toasters- people were posting pictures and Argos was selling out of sandwich toasters!
Other faves- lemon drizzle, Somerville & mr lovely and rumpled. I read EMINs thread about ladybird one night, made me cry. As did the unexpected loss of CatThiefKeith.

icelollycraving · 26/09/2018 07:31

I did find the threads that some listed entertaining or memorable for sadder reasons, I love mn. The support I have seen over the years for people having the toughest time always make me get a bit of a lump in my throat. It brings out a very special solidarity.
I do like a parking thread, or cf ones.
When I first joined, around 8 years ago, there were lots of who is your fave mner? The same posters would get ‘voted’ with some people feeling upset that they then felt invisible. I disliked those once it became clear some really took it to heart. It felt much much smaller then.
Troll threads were funnier and less about kids wetting themself or other dubious reasons.
I do remember the mner who was leaving her home due to dv (I think) and needed her pets adopted. I hope she is safe and living a happier life.
Like some others I didn’t find some of the other threads hilarious like some, pombears etc. I think the penis beaker thread altered mn completely afterwards.
One of my absolute favourite phrases from a thread was “woof to you lady” Grin

QuaterMiss · 26/09/2018 07:54

A poster named difficultpickle started a thread about her son’s difficulties at school. It emerged that she herself was seriously ill - and this was probably having an effect on her child. Things escalated. I still wonder about them.

OrangeOrBlackcurrant · 26/09/2018 08:16

GetOrfMyLand and Bupcakes did make me properly laugh out loud.

I agree that sometimes you have to be on the thread in real time to see the humour.

Booble plate and links are my nemisis do still make me laugh though.

EdgarAllenPoe's thread stays with me with her simple "Oh"

plominoagain · 26/09/2018 08:31

The ‘ I spray painted a pigeon ‘ one .

‘Paul , is that you ? ‘

Elephantinacravat · 26/09/2018 09:34

Bupcakes and Cunting/Marmalade Twatkins (OP of lemon drizzle and I think also 'itchy vagine') was the funniest MNetter ever! I remember one time having a disagreement with her on a post and I was still cracking up at her because of the way she was saying it!

On a different note, I remember a poster in the Bereavement section whose daughter called Mia died very suddenly. It was so unbelievable awful, and yet the way she wrote about her daughter was just so beautiful. I think she went on to have another child and I still think of them from time to time.

Unrelated really, but I remember being on the TES forums loads back in the day, and when I was just starting to think about having kids etc. All the forums were really busy, not just the educational ones. There was a poster on the 'Pregnancy' forum who had just started TTC and was so enthusiastic and excited about it. Just starting by 'coming off the pill and seeing what happens'. And then month after month went by and she wasn't pregnant, and she started with ovulation sticks etc and still nothing happened, and other people got pregnant, and it was just horrible to see the change in her as time went by. She had begun to go down the road of fertility treatment the last I saw I think. I never go on TES now (I don't think anyone does!) but I sometimes think of her as well and hope that she got pregnant in the end.

BIWI · 26/09/2018 09:36

The level/type of humour is different these days. It's much more obvious and much less 'witty' (i.e. less intelligent). People hate that being pointed out, though, because it implies a certain sense of exclusivity or superiority. Nevertheless it's definitely how the site has changed as it's grown - and this is inevitable, I think.

MartianBishop, in particular, I remember always used to start some amazingly clever but very funny threads. Losing her to Moldies was really sad.

Sparklingbrook · 26/09/2018 09:48

I think the humour is definitely less subtle. People are trying too hard to post a hilarious OP when sometimes normal OPs become funny as they go on.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 26/09/2018 09:57

I remember many of these but can't always trouble they ended, including yours essential.

SLoisachtal · 26/09/2018 10:22

The Janet & Roy RRs, which went on for a few Christmases. That wouldn't happen now, but some of the suggestions posted on each year's threads were pretty funny.

Elephantinacravat · 26/09/2018 10:31

I did a Janet and Roy letter one Christmas and it worked an absolute treat, it was so much fun to write as well!

SLoisachtal · 26/09/2018 11:04

Also the threads about actual RRs that people had received each year. Who can forget Psammy's excerpts from her DH's Aunt Horrid & Uncle Nasty's RR? Grin

Although a personal memory from one year is that a MNer posted - word for word and using the same names - an excerpt from a RR which I had also received. She was quite a prolific poster at the time and lived abroad in her DH's country with their two young DC and I knew I didn't know her, but it was rather odd to realise that we both knew the same family IRL.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 26/09/2018 12:25

See, the real threads about the madster smug Round Robins that people actually write and actually receive, were very funny. I was on one of those because have an old university friend who writes them in the voice of her young son but the fake ones, the Janet and Roy thing, was horrible. But then I don't like practical jokes.

OrangeorBlackcurrant-I remember EAP's "oh" as well. In a similar vein, and not sure she's been mentioned yet, Rindercella and her dh. Flowers

Prestonsflowers · 26/09/2018 13:08

@icelollycraving
I was reading a thread a couple of months ago and a poster came on to say that the woman had left the abusive relationship and her pets had been adopted

icelollycraving · 26/09/2018 18:31

preston thanks, that’s good news. I hope she has a happy fresh start. That took some courage.

beincki · 03/10/2018 19:48

Can someone link the Angela Hernandez thread please? I'm new here and am slowly trying to get through all these classics! 😂 Thanks!

SneakyGremlins · 03/10/2018 19:53
