Just ... hello really.

I consider myself a bit of an oldie but there might be people still here who were posting from the very start (circa 2000/01 ish?).

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to go back 10-12 years on Mumsnet. Would it look significantly different? I remember lots of scandals about the changing of the appearance of the site. I guess there would be fewer adverts, sliders and pop-ups?

Woud we still have lots of threads headed like this
MamaGwhereareyou**

Hot topics of conversation might be baby modelling and the MMR. I can't honestly remember.

What do you recall about the early days of MN if you were here then?

Xenia still walks among us!

SheikYerboutii · 21/09/2018 23:40

Meeee! Joined in early 2005 when eldest lad was a tiny baby. He's now a hulking great thing who is soon to be 14 and is taller than me! I remember DS2's birth announcement on here - he was 12 two weeks ago Shock

Have had a few names in the past, but was generally known as IntergalacticWalrus and SheikYerbouti (extra i now because I couldn't remember old login!)

Do you have a Tardis @Miljah? Grin

Went to sleep last night thinking about how mumsnet has touched my life.

The posters in relationships helped me see I was in a totally dysfunctional relationship, that EXDP was the problem and that I couldn't fix it.

Mumsnet held my hand as I slowly accepted what this meant for DS and I.

Mumsnet helped me end my relationship and learn how to stand strong.

Thank you mumsnet. I'm not sure I would have untangled myself without the advice I received here.

Since that time I've rebuilt my life, DS has thrived. I've even met and married a wonderful proper man. But even if I hadn't I'd still have felt that mumsnet saved me and my sanity.

Sheik!! Blimey. Hullo, mate.

RandomMess · 22/09/2018 10:05

Sheik I only remember "you" as Intergalactic!

Seekingunderstanding · 22/09/2018 10:32

I was here from 2006 when I was pregnant with ds. I remember lots of those things. Date at penguin enclosure, riven etc as others have said. Went off mn for a few years but back now.

Connebert · 22/09/2018 11:07

That boho thread is a summary of what‘s either lost or jolly hard to find!

Ambi · 22/09/2018 11:18

I joined in 2006 before we were TTC. I came to find out the ins and outs of pregnancy but got derailed on the chat threads. I've barely been away since though I name change regularly. Met some fab MNers, meet ups in Manchester and Liverpool and MNers from both the antenatal groups I was on.

DoingTheBestICan · 22/09/2018 11:56

I've been here since late 2005/early 2006. I spent hours on here whilst up doing night feeds. This site kept me sane!

Evilwater · 22/09/2018 11:59

I was here in 2010 ish.

I've been musing on the "used to be kinder" thing.

It used to be more honest. More real. Yes, you got your arse handed to you, if you deserved it and were being a bit of a twat. Yes, you were helped, advised, applauded and consoled, if you needed it.

Now, an Op says she's done something really nasty, to someone else (perceived CFery) and everyone is cheering and clapping and telling her how brilliant she is. These days so many threads seem to be started to get that sort of validation from others. The OP tells someone to fuck off, then has to come over to MN for the pompoms. What's actually the point? She's not asking if she's BU, because she's already done the action, so in her head she knows she's not. Confused And if the second poster on the thread had said "that was a bit of a cunty thing to do" then all of the others would have too. It's all very fake now.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 22/09/2018 14:11

2012 for me, blimey where does the time go? I remember superblybits (spelling may be wrong) who everyone thought was su purplybits she once put a disclaimer on a post say her bits were NOT purple Grin also remember pagwatch, hully, bupcakes, cod, mit*, southeastastra, mrs dvere, and loads more mentioned upthread. It did seem less aggressive back then with lots more humour and there was a poster who did the most hilarious threads that were made up, can't remember who but I remember one about a wedding and should old folk be invited or some such nonsense.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 22/09/2018 14:13

also remember knickersonherhead who went to a MN'ers wedding as a random witness, the photos posted were of her with knickers on her head Grin

Dobson4675 · 22/09/2018 14:59

2005 for me. This is my second account but I change name very regularly after realising the advanced search option existed and my combined posts were mega identifying.

Enko · 22/09/2018 15:13

I joined when it was very new I think it was 2000 I joined as I have a feeling I posted about being a mum of 2 (now have 4) could have been 2001. Tobegin with I didn't use it a great deal but bit by bit I migrated here. these days I check it most days.

HurricaneFloss · 22/09/2018 15:47

Does anyone know how Bonsoir Anna is doing?

Munchmallow · 22/09/2018 17:12

Thank you GetOnYerBike - she was an amazing woman and it was a very moving story.

This thread is great but I'd love to know how Hecate is (everyone always agreed with her!) and I had no idea Maryz was banned (?) her advice re teens was spot on and much needed.

And the lovely Chaos and Trinity, I hope they are both doing well Flowers

Munchmallow · 22/09/2018 17:21

@StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes the very funny thread about the old people at weddings is here: Hully's OAP wedding thread

Giraffeski · 22/09/2018 17:42

@LapdanceShoeshine yes!!

HurricaneFloss · 22/09/2018 17:55

@Munchmallow - thank you for the link to Hullygully's thread - I am weeping with laughter!

mathanxiety · 22/09/2018 18:53

Freshstart, was that Trinity?

excalatingtradewar · 22/09/2018 19:15

What happened with Carrie and Justine though?

freshstart24 · 22/09/2018 19:32

Mathanxiety yes that's it, Trinity. I do hope she's getting on ok.

excalatingtradewar · 22/09/2018 19:34

I loved Scottish Mummy and her 'precious moments' posts, she was awesome
