Anyone still here who joined in 2006 or earlier?

Just ... hello really.

I consider myself a bit of an oldie but there might be people still here who were posting from the very start (circa 2000/01 ish?).

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to go back 10-12 years on Mumsnet. Would it look significantly different? I remember lots of scandals about the changing of the appearance of the site. I guess there would be fewer adverts, sliders and pop-ups?

Woud we still have lots of threads headed like this
MamaGwhereareyou**

Hot topics of conversation might be baby modelling and the MMR. I can't honestly remember.

What do you recall about the early days of MN if you were here then?

2003😎

Wow, this is like a journey through the last 14 years of my life. I joined in 2004. Mumsnet has seen me through 2 babies, 1 divorce, being a step parent, another separation, and now teens. I have had a huge amount of support from people on MN.

One lady who I "met" on a thread full of MNers going through separation became a lifeline for me at a really awful time. She knows who she is!

Ones who stand out the most - catsmother, composhat, Tiktok, COD, TimeForme, Hula, HullyGully, Anniegetyourgun, as well as all the others that everyone else has mentioned.

I remember chaos phone incident! Was funny...for us!

Loved junglist and how she kept snaking back after being banned

I used to love the competitive bohemian threads. Like this one

And this one

There just seemed to be a lot of stealth references to posters’ own arty, intellectual, Grauniad-loving lifestyles back then. Now it’s all competively Waitrose MC.

Timeandtune, Skye is still here with a different name. Her now exH is a truly horrible man and among the most pathetic excuses for a father that I have come across, very sadly.

Eve · 21/09/2018 21:54

Wasn’t there an early iteration of a troll ( before the troll word was invented) who give lots of legal advice til someone caught them out?

NicoAndTheNiners · 21/09/2018 21:57

Legal advice troll was Judge Flounce. Went on for years iirc, certainly months.

Electrascoffee · 21/09/2018 22:06

That was so funny. Judge Flounce was really part of the in crowd 😂

It was funny when the real lawyers on mumsnet figured he had no clue what (he) was talking about.

Wasn't he actually a guy named Steve from Pontypridd? 🤣🤣

ScribblyGum · 21/09/2018 22:07

@BALD lovely to see you baldy.
I have you to thank for every single week when I do my food shop in Aldi, passing the crisps section and having a little smile at 'Prangles'. I don't remember anything else from that thread apart from Prangles.

OlennasWimple · 21/09/2018 22:11

I have been here on and off since 2006, but only posting regualrly since 2011. I was here when Jeffreygate was happening in real time. And I got a mention twice in the weekly chat round up email.

I didn't see it on the thread, but only skim read so could have missed, but has anyone mentioned that Maryz has been banned? Shock

BALD · 21/09/2018 22:15

Scribbley just for old times sake:
Prangles

MegBusset · 21/09/2018 22:17

I joined in 2006/7 - the Sleep Is For The Weak threads got me through a hellish time with non-sleeping baby DS1 (now a strapping high school kid who still wakes early but knows not to get me out of bed before 8.30 on a weekend Grin)

The cliques really could be cliquey and offputting, but there was a lot of kindness and many more funny threads. These days I stick to the book topic.

RandomMess · 21/09/2018 22:17

I joined 2003 I remember all the posters mentioned by others it really was so much smaller then. I have name changed a few times but my old name has mentioned as being support for someone and I'm so touched!

I am sad that MN is less supportive now. Not sure I would ever start a thread in need of support it's too harsh these days!

TigerDroveAgain · 21/09/2018 22:26

I think I joined in 2008 but it might have been a bit earlier.

However my MN claim to fame is that I am the Tiger of the Penguins and was the MNetter who went on that date. It was bloody brilliant!

seb1 · 21/09/2018 22:27

I have been here since 2003, this post makes me realise how much I have forgotten

Llareggub · 21/09/2018 22:28

I joined when I got pregnant with my son.. He's 12 now!

ScribblyGum · 21/09/2018 22:30

Thanks for the Prangles memories bald.
You and I and others also wrote the sequel to the Chanel no 5 'I love to dance' Nicole Kidman advert. It had a squirrel, a muff and a hot air ballon iirc.

RandomMess · 21/09/2018 22:39

The penguins date GrinGrinGrinGrin was hilarious!

WhatIsThisTomfoolery · 21/09/2018 22:42

I used to love the sign offs on posts made by tigga

freshstart24 · 21/09/2018 22:44

I Haines around 2005. Was struggling to conceive at the time and stumbled across the wonderful world of mumsnet.

It's been a constant in my life ever since to varying degrees.

Over the years posters like cod, Riven and AnyFucker stick in my mind. Plus a wonderful lady who lost her husband and needed some help to get her home sorted. There was a huge amount of online support for her, and some mumsnetters turned up IRL to help her, I can't remember her name though.

freshstart24 · 21/09/2018 22:45

Oooh yes how could I forget Hully, and LeQueen!

NotMeNoNo · 21/09/2018 22:45

I joined in 2006 after reading about the SWMNBN situation. After about 2 minutes I knew I'd found my people. I'd adopted 2 DC under 2yo earlier in the year and was just starting to struggle. It's helped me get perspective on a lot of things over the years.

excalatingtradewar · 21/09/2018 22:49

I joined in 2006 or thereabouts. It was so much smaller then, cliquey too but I gave away so much personal info compared to now and kept the same username for about 6/7 years, I literally change it every couple of weeks now which is sad in a way.

I remember the Madeleine McCann threads that went on forever and were so upsetting, people can be so cruel.

I loved COD but hated the cliqueiness of it all.

freshstart24 · 21/09/2018 23:02

.... and Xenia, Coito, Dittany.

Miljah · 21/09/2018 23:06

Been here since 2094, but have had to morph due to a stalker. FGS!
