Anyone still here who joined in 2006 or earlier?

Just ... hello really.

I consider myself a bit of an oldie but there might be people still here who were posting from the very start (circa 2000/01 ish?).

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to go back 10-12 years on Mumsnet. Would it look significantly different? I remember lots of scandals about the changing of the appearance of the site. I guess there would be fewer adverts, sliders and pop-ups?

Woud we still have lots of threads headed like this
MamaGwhereareyou**

Hot topics of conversation might be baby modelling and the MMR. I can't honestly remember.

What do you recall about the early days of MN if you were here then?

Riven's DH is now a best selling author and has also written a children's book jointly with their dd.

Snog · 21/09/2018 09:32

Lots of discussion as to whether it was ok to let your child eat in the supermarket as you shopped before you had actually paid for the item he was eating...

....and a weird fascination for finding other people's used shopping lists on trolleys, hence "nice ham"

Wow Knots - reading all those names is a real blast from the past! I couldn't have listed them, but random bits of info are coming back now. I loved Cappuccino - she had a really dry sense of humour. I wonder if she's still here.

I remember the bat too! I was on a lot of camping threads, and the possibility of a bat flag to hoist above MNer's tents was often discussed.

All my hours on MN back then were guiltily snatched over dial-up connection, which meant if nursery tried to ring my phone would be engaged. No mobiles in them there days.

BedtimeTea · 21/09/2018 10:02

I remember a pregnant woman in went into labour. There had been a lot of snow and she was snowed in on a farm, or a countryside. Somebody finally got through the snow to her house, in the end mother and baby were fine.

Samcro · 21/09/2018 10:15

this thread makes me think of the old favourite mn's threads , I used to love them,
you would lurk in the hope you would get a mention, then give in and post, just so someone would remember you.

franke · 21/09/2018 10:18

I remember when someone came on posting with shoulder pain, I think, and clever mners told her to get to the hospital quick because it might be an ectopic pg. And it was! Obviously it was a bit more long-winded than that, but she had no idea she was pg and her life was saved.

franke · 21/09/2018 10:19

Also I've planned all our holidays using threads from mn. It's a brilliant resource.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/09/2018 10:35

Capp left Absinthe many moons ago. I don't think she ever came back.

Lots of memories here Smile

Skyejuly · 21/09/2018 10:43

I was here december 2003 x

catinboots9 · 21/09/2018 10:46

I miss @shirleyknot

Me!!!

I started on MN about the same time that DS was born, so mid 2003. I was in heaven; all these English-speaking mums who seemed to know what to do and how to do it. Later, it was like a soap... all the scandals, the emergence of trolls, the weirdos, the nasties and most shockingly, the women who went through their own private hells. I'm not naming any names... those who were there will know. We laughed a lot, silliness but above all sharp wits and dark humour.

Danceintherain2018 · 21/09/2018 11:00

I was here then under a different name!

puddingjuly · 21/09/2018 11:10

2006 - I've had loads of name changes though.
I was on a thread called slatterns 😂 and we wrote housework lists every day and shared them to motivate each other - aww I loved those ladies.

I remember a troll called TheWiltedRose who would start a thread every week saying her dc were starving and she had no money and everyone would PayPal her funds until we all realised she was a troll.

I loved mn then it was fun I remember so many times laughing until I cried at some of the threads.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 21/09/2018 11:30

God, yes, the scams.

So many starving MNers, so little time to get to Paypal....

wannabestressfree · 21/09/2018 11:32

I have been here yonks and not namechanged. I pop in and out and have had one long (year plus) thread.

Fightthebear · 21/09/2018 11:39

I was on the Rivens thread which hit the front page. Pleased to hear things have worked out for them.

TheRealMrsSmith · 21/09/2018 12:22

I joined in 2006 but started lurking whilst pregnant the year before. I made some great friends irl via a Mumsnet meet up. I don't post and rarely comment, but I've been here for years. It's a habit I don't want to quit 😊

MovingThisYearHopefully · 21/09/2018 12:34

I must have joined around 2001 just after having DD2. Been here on & off with various usernames ever since. Grin

AbsintheFriends · 21/09/2018 12:40

Saggarmakersbottomknocker - I remember you! I'm from the same part of the country as you (roughly) and we once discussed your username (mine was different back then.)

That's a shame about Capp. I hoped that she might still be here somewhere, scattering her witty observations and pithy asides across the Brexit boards or something. I hope wherever she is now, she and her family are happy and well.

CandyAppleRed · 21/09/2018 12:42

Pudding - I remember the slattern threads! And Flylady! I was never on either but remember seeing them in active.

This thread is so nostalgic, I remember virtually all the names mentioned and used to spend far too long on here.

It is so lovely to see all these old names. I name changed many times and was never a prolific poster but loved it on here, hardly ever post these days, maybe I need to get back into it!

Witchend · 21/09/2018 12:56

I joined around 2007/8, because there was someone asking advice as they'd just discovered their unborn baby had the same disability as dd2. I had been searching for something else under google and her thread came up. She sounded exactly as I felt when we saw it on the scan, so I joined to offer help. I've been here since under various names.

I know shortly after I joined there was the evening of Mitmoo, and lots of people changed their names to something with Mitmoo in and HQ got a bit stroppy. Grin

The only posters I remember noticing was Maryz because it took me ages to decide it was actually Mary Z not pronounced mar-eeze.
And the other one was when Chaos' phone went wrong and was posting multiple times. She posted a simple answer which came out a good 25+ posts and then the next post was "my phone" x 25+ Grin
