Anyone still here who joined in 2006 or earlier?

Just ... hello really.

I consider myself a bit of an oldie but there might be people still here who were posting from the very start (circa 2000/01 ish?).

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to go back 10-12 years on Mumsnet. Would it look significantly different? I remember lots of scandals about the changing of the appearance of the site. I guess there would be fewer adverts, sliders and pop-ups?

Woud we still have lots of threads headed like this
MamaGwhereareyou**

Hot topics of conversation might be baby modelling and the MMR. I can't honestly remember.

What do you recall about the early days of MN if you were here then?

BadAsMe · 21/09/2018 00:09

@BALD! I'm your greatest fan! You don't know me but I have been known to post as DogsAreLikeBoys!

Just5minspeace · 21/09/2018 00:23

I joined in 2007 and hung out a lot on the breastfeeding boards.
I see a lot of the old breastfeeding supporters in feminism chat these days!

Snoringdogandcar · 21/09/2018 01:28

Anyone remember Bobbins? I sometimes think of her and wonder if she’s OK.
Yes! Her partner unexpectedly (IIRC) was an awful shite

SleightOfMind · 21/09/2018 02:17

Joined in 2001/2 when DS1 was a baby but lurked for info mostly.
3 or 4 namechanges. I rarely post on anything sensational.
I miss the long funny threads between people who all knew each other a bit. People would start threads with, ‘What do we think of ...?’. MN is far too big for that now but a lot more inclusive and diverse.

So glad I’m not the only one that’s wasted nearly 20 years arsing about on MN

hendricksy · 21/09/2018 06:42

Does anyone know if Cupofteaplease is still around .. I think of Beatrice a lot and wonder how they all are .

AtYourCervix · 21/09/2018 07:16

MN used to be so bloody funny.

It’s all a bit worthy and PO now. And we’re not allowed blatenly obvious fake stories and threads.
I’m still bloody here though. Like Hotel California.

Peridot1 · 21/09/2018 07:39

I had a look and apparently I joined in 2005. DS was coming up for four and in nursery. We were living in Budapest. He is now 17 and we are back in uk and we are going to Edinburgh tonight for a university open day tomorrow. Eek.

Emsiewill - I remember Hausfrau became Califrau. Then she just left. I’ve wondered how she managed it! Maybe the trick to leaving Hotel California was moving to California!

I can’t believe how much time I’ve wasted here over the years.

I never post a problem or a ask for advice on anything other than very innocuous or boring housekeeping things now due to so much stuff being lifted by the media in one way or another. Which is a shame.

AgathaF · 21/09/2018 07:47

Oh Stratters and the raven. I really wanted a raven during that thread. I still keep an eye out now for any possibilities that might like to live in the shed for a few weeks. Pagwatch's beautiful house too, and other photos. I used to love the photos people added. I added a couple at one point, but ever worried about keeping anonymity, I deleted them hours later.

BadAsMe so glad your lovely boy is doing well.

KeiTeNgeNge · 21/09/2018 07:47

I joined in 2007. I remember Cod and Aitch, the bird park and UCM. Boy it’s changed :)

YearOfYouRemember · 21/09/2018 07:55

@mycatplotsdeath - iirc OpheliaRose was a troll.

BadAsMe · 21/09/2018 08:21

Thank you @AgathaF. Just re-read my post and I said 20 years! I hope to meet up with everyone then too but meant to say 10. Blush

UrsulaPandress · 21/09/2018 08:26

I don't think cupoftea is around anymore. I was always saddened that she and her husband split up after Bea died.

YearOfYouRemember · 21/09/2018 08:38

Iirc they did reconcile, UP.

CountessDracula · 21/09/2018 08:41

I think I joined in 2002 or maybe early 2003
Still here occasionally (is UCM? Grin )

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 21/09/2018 08:41

Peridot- I was your alter ego with the other Eastern European capital name!

UrsulaPandress · 21/09/2018 08:43

Oh that is good news.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 21/09/2018 08:47

I think I joined around '05 ds was born 2004 and I think I was on the pregnancy boards for dd1 born in first half of 2006.

I have noted the changes the boards have grown exponentially so posting feels more anonymous yet somehow more exposed at the same time. I am a moldy oldie but don't feel like that gives any privilege just perspective and sometimes impatience with the repeated themes and patterns in debate on threads. Seen it all!

Timeandtune · 21/09/2018 08:56

I have been on Mumsnet since 2007. I have had amazing advice on topics big and small . The one poster I remember was a lady called Skye whose husband was having an emotional affair ( if not more). She was so hard on herself. She had a wee girl who we called Mini Skye. Wherever she is now I hope she is doing well.

IrmaFayLear · 21/09/2018 08:57

I think I joined in about 2005. I absolutely dread to think how many hours I've wasted on MN. And I'm at it again today!

When I first joined I lurked for ages, afraid to butt into a thread. It was quite cliquey, and in the middle of threads there was often [waves to MyFavouritePoster] and much sucking up to "Royalty". If a poster was clearly a man, then there was quite a bit of embarrassing flirting and tee heeing, which I'm sure wouldn't happen today.

Over the years the site has obviously ballooned, and I find it irritating that almost everything goes in AIBU, just to get traffic. Also even I can now spot that people have made up stuff, and I'm usually incredibly gullible.

I'm grateful to the Feminist area for enlightening me about a lot of stuff, and the Education boards have been very helpful over the years.

What has made me actually heave my arse off my chair and go and do something useful is the derailing of threads by posters excusing bad behaviour for reason du jour and ironically being horribly aggressive about it.

The one time I nearly stormed to MN Towers and demanded action was when a poster said our sympathy should equally be with the Manchester bomber and his family Angry Angry Angry . I value free speech - and particularly the usual light-handed moderation on MN - but one is speedily deleted and slapped on the wrist for a violation which contravenes current sensibilities, but comments like this are not obliterated and the poster, er, strapped to a rocket .

chocolatewine · 21/09/2018 09:01

Remember almost everyone and everything mentioned here! I joined very early on - can't remember when but my registration number is 790 so must have been at the beginning! My children were all primary age when MN started and I remember wishing that this wonderful resource had been available when they were babies!

Peridot1 · 21/09/2018 09:06

Hi BookMe! I wondered if you were still around. Hope all is well with you.

KnotsInMay · 21/09/2018 09:16

I remember a bake off competition. People showed photos of their cakes. Someone made a cupcake with a beach scene including tiny flip flops made of icing.

I remember Rudy, Galaxy, Stressyhead, Rustybear, TikTok, Mears, Roisin, JanH, JanStar, Dinosaur, Batters, Lillibet, WickedWaterWitch, Emkana, Arabella, Cappuccino, Linnet, Collette (tights on head), Edam, who posted ‘tablecloth lady’? She was very witty and hated living in Surrey. KS?. SB / EssBee?, Beetroot, MarsOnLife, Hecate, Titania, Doormat. Dejags.

Rhubarb who went in a reality TV show to make a new start living in a caravan. They had to leave everything behind including clothes and be seen getting into the caravan naked or something.
