Got a new pair of shoes today for the new season and as soon as I tried them on, DH and I both said 'Ooh, new shooooes!' While the DC looked as us like we'd lost the plot as usual. They are, of course, much too young to remember the Clarks advert but it is ingrained in our memories. Which led me to think about some of the best, most memorable TV ads. Which are the ones you still remember and quote?

You can do it, we can help, one calorie, one calorie, diet pepsi can help..

Buxtonstill · 14/09/2018 16:51

Please tell me that some remembers the advert with the slogan - 'When you walk through the door, your pound's worth more - at Williams - where else?' I have never met anyone that remembers it . And another one - 'Ride around the office you got it right, Ride around the office - Roneo' It was for an office equipment company. I'm always singing it :-)

defectiveinspector · 14/09/2018 17:16

Buxton Yes! I loved that jingle, we changed it to "When you walk through the door you fall through the floor"

This is probably a north west one "Phone Eileen Bilton" it was for commercial space in Warrington & Runcorn, I can't remember the number now, but it stuck with me for years.

Also Birds Eye beefburgers "ope it's chips, it's chips, we 'ope it's chips"

I love all of these adverts, these are a couple that stayed in my mind:

Hovis bread with the boy cycling up that really steep hill...

Black Tower wine (free the blonde from the black tower?)...

Topic - a hazelnut in every bite...

Fruit 'n' Fibre with a peppy-looking Ross Kemp...

'Don't Cheat On The Cheese!' - From the Cheese Marketing Board...

Pay Day Soon, eh? - brilliant Barclays fraud advert (they have an amazing marketing team) and they did the recent...
"Did you see what I did there?" - pin number scary lady. Fantastic fraud advert

I remember the Ben and his beefburgers advert too, very fondly. :)

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 14/09/2018 17:27

Ohhh and Buxtonstill has reminded me of Irn Bru...

"Do you recall the guy who called me a wimp?
The doc says he'll walk but he'll still have a limp..
Oh they say that love hurts but that's an understatement,
To me it makes me black and blue...
Got a funny feeling, you've been drinking IRN BRUUUU".

I love that advert, I was looking for it everywhere but I can't find it. I remember that excerpt though. Grin

The Guardian ad titled The Whole Picture. Skinhead runs towards another man who is carrying a briefcase, the implication being that he will rob the man. Skinhead then pulls the man to safety from falling masonry.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 14/09/2018 17:46

In case anyone lives in the NE of Scotland and needs new windows or doors then the number you apparently need to call is “Thistle Windows Aberdeen seven oh six treble five”

JessieMcJessie · 14/09/2018 17:47

Some great ones mentioned here. Pea and Ham from a chicken is one of my all-time favourites, as is Daddy or Chips.

I think that the one where the Dad comments that the saddle of the son’s new racer bike is like a razor blade might have been for Yellow Pages. There was another one “French polishers? You might just save my life” with the teens after the party when the parents are away- just as they get the scratch in the table sorted the camera pans to a painting with a moustache scribbled on it...

“Made in Scotland from gurrdurs” is as Scottish as kilts and porridge.

woodhill · 14/09/2018 17:50

Milk tray and the spoof comedy show spoofs

Vicks synex

Of course you can Malcolm

alwaysreadyforablether · 14/09/2018 17:55

"It's Harry the Spiders coming out party"

I'm sure it was for Cadbury's chocolate fingers but no-one else seems to remember it.

delphguelph · 14/09/2018 17:59

Has anyone mentioned the gorilla playing the piano, to In the Air Tonight? For Cadburys?

Classic.

theluckiest · 14/09/2018 17:59

There was a gorgeous advert in the mid - late 80s for some sort of fabric softener - think it was called Breeze or something. Lovely music, fairies and cute kids skipping about. Twas lovely. Every time it came on, mum & I would stop to 'Aaaah' over it.

Except nobody else remembers it. Nothing on YouTube. Maybe I dreamt it...
Anyone!?

Pigeonpair1 · 14/09/2018 18:17

You get bags more buzz at Burton

Went to a cocktail bar....in Leicester Square. Me this bloke....said he was a miwionaire....

Anyone remember the public information "get yourself seen" add for riding bikes in the dark?

Ginger1982 · 14/09/2018 18:26

Old Vauxhall Astra ad!

JessieMcJessie · 14/09/2018 18:46

Timotei ladies wafting about meadows!

RottenApple · 14/09/2018 18:57

theluckiest I remember the Breeze fairies advert. The main reason being that the dancing school I was at did a ballet number based on that advert for a show and I was in it so spent months wafting about with chiffon wings during rehearsals!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/09/2018 19:11

The old Orange advert. I am who I am because of everyone.
Makes me well up

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/09/2018 19:13

Good thread btw

vampirethriller · 14/09/2018 19:18

I used to love the Metz Judderman

FuckKnuckle · 14/09/2018 19:20

Just remembered a few more (I'm old, me...)

"The service you get renting your colour set from Granada..."

Harry Worth, "Let's all go to Civic, let's all go to Civic, your friendly store, your friendly store..."

And more recently, all the odd shaped airport vehicles racing in the Cadbury's advert. I used to love that - the idea of them all having a bit of fun after a long day working.

Barabajagal · 14/09/2018 19:20

Prudential ad - “We want to be together”. The look on her face!

GinisLife · 14/09/2018 19:21

The Kit Kat one where the pandas roller skated round their enclosure while the man wasn't looking. Made me laugh every time !!

KarrisWhiteOak · 14/09/2018 19:23

The Guinness one with the horses, loved the music

Papa?

I still say daddy or chips - Dp doesn’t remember it so thinks I’m nuts. My three year old shouts chips 😆

If you like a lot of chocolate and trio are brilliant.

Witchend · 14/09/2018 19:25

The AA advert
"He's a nice man. A very nice man. A very very very nice man..."

We're not with the AA, but we do say "there's that nice man... Very very very nice man.." when we see the vans

frogface69 · 14/09/2018 19:26

I loved the Stella artois one with the skating priests. And the ring of colgate !
