Got a new pair of shoes today for the new season and as soon as I tried them on, DH and I both said 'Ooh, new shooooes!' While the DC looked as us like we'd lost the plot as usual. They are, of course, much too young to remember the Clarks advert but it is ingrained in our memories. Which led me to think about some of the best, most memorable TV ads. Which are the ones you still remember and quote?

I vant, I vant, a vicount.
Clarke's hidden key (secret garden) shoe advert.
Something has aloe Vera in it and a bird says "aloe Vera" as if saying hello to someone called Vera, the advert reminds me of my mum along with the "new shooeess"
The Cadbury fruit and nut bar, he's a fruit and nut case Grin

5 pairs of Wragler Jeans walking out the door, 1 pair left his bike in bits, then there were 4.......

It’s the S plate special coming down the line, the S plate special right on time , Leyland cars, oh so great, you can get one now with the new S- plate..,..

And no one else remembers at the end of the ‘70’s a line of Asian women wearing white one piece bathing costumes with a large red dot on the front can can-ing to the jingle ‘Super who? Subaru. Super who - oo-oo? Subaru. Who gives you more car for your money? Subaru that’s who!!

BevBrook · 13/09/2018 23:26

I basically quote ads at the kids all the time. I never thought I watched much ITV as a child but I must have!

And mummy.....mummy made the gravy.

ilovesooty · 13/09/2018 23:37

The advert for Nimble bread with the girl in the air - can't let Maggie go
Put your money on a Pony
I'd love a Babycham
The Hovis no place like home advert
The Readybrek one where the child was surrounded by orange
Shredded Wheat - there are two men in my life... horribly sexist!!

Leeds2 · 13/09/2018 23:45

"Have you truly wafted in from Paradise?"
*Nah, Luton Airport."

Texan. It sure is a mighty chew.

Thereisnotheoryofeverything · 13/09/2018 23:46

What is the one with the duck shouting "it's Christmas"? I can now see just that little flash of it in my mind but have no idea about the rest!

I remember the John Smith's adverts where they tried to tell a story. "Got a mate called Brown and a mate called Jones can't wait to see my mate called Smith".

HarrietSchulenberg · 14/09/2018 00:02

The Ovaltine ad, "Don't need a mum, need a keeper with a gun".

The 70s Finger of Fudge boy looked like my dad in his school pictures.

"With an elasticated nappy, your baby will be happy, made not to leak, they're fantastique" or something. My friend and I thought it was hilarious to change "elasticated" to "electricated".

Thereisnotheoryofeverything · 14/09/2018 00:02

Here is the first John Smith's one. There were others - one set in Spain on holiday iirc. Chronicled the life of a working class lad about town:

HarrietSchulenberg · 14/09/2018 00:04

Regional one, this, but there was a radio ad that went, "Good King Wenceslas looked out, of Wolverhampton Windows".

maggienolia · 14/09/2018 06:54

"Will it be chips or jacket spuds,
Will it be salad or frozen peas,
Will it be mushrooms
Fried onion rings
You'll have to wait and see "

RottenApple · 14/09/2018 07:44

That milk one from the 80s with the milk bottles dancing down the street behind the milk man
m.youtube.com/watch?v=g99a80AXrsQ

If they put it on again, I bet the demand for milk delivery would go up.

Everyone's a Fruit and Nut case....

ShatnersWig · 14/09/2018 08:13

And Dudley Moore searching for free range chickens

BeatriceJoanna · 14/09/2018 08:31

I immediately thought of these two:

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 14/09/2018 09:05

@Puzzledandpissedoff I loved that Honda ad! So different from all the car-gliding-along-spectacular-scenic-road ones.

OP posts:
ClosdesMouches · 14/09/2018 09:08

Both from the 80s

Skating panda Kit Kat ad

'oh hard cheese Portia' Elmlea ad. I watch it on YouTube now and then and it still makes me laugh out loud.

iklboo · 14/09/2018 09:11
ad
ADastardlyThing · 14/09/2018 09:20

Golden syrup ad with the spoon walking through the breakfast table "stick it on your spoon........stick it on your crumpets......stick it on your shopping list!!". Always came on near christmsas. Reminds of the mornings before school curled up in front of the 1980's grey fires with the ceramic bars that turned my legs into corned beef!

MakeYourOwnFuckingTea · 14/09/2018 09:45

Ready Brek its central eating for kids.

Jaffa Cakes full moon half moon... total eclipse!
