Do you know anyone that had a room redecorate by "Changing rooms"?

The episode of the smashed teapots just popped into my head and i went on a wee google changing room rampage. Some -most- of the designs are so shit and I've just seen some up close pictures of the work and it's horrendous.

Just wondered if any of you had appeared on it and what was the outcome? Did you love it, hate it? Did they restore things if they were shit?

That show was hilarious! I remember one where the poor woman stared crying Shock

Not me but a friend had her living room done by by a makeover programme back in around 1998/1999.

Can't remember the programme as there were quite a few around at that time but I think it was a daytime one . Anyway the finish was really poor quality close up and she hated it. She had to live with it though as it would've taken time, effort and money that she didn't have to put right.

GoatWoman · 21/08/2018 11:28

Why would you put gaffa tape on the floor? It will be all scuffed and sticky and filthy by the end of the day.

The broken teapots one was horrifying yet gripping viewing!

Whisky2014 · 21/08/2018 11:32

You can already see the tape had been damaged and had marks on it.
I watched the teapot crash on YouTube and really felt for one of the friends, she was very upset. What a silly idea AND the room looked terrible to boot.

And i dont understand why all the things handy Andy made were just left as plain MDF. Its not painted or anything :/

I remember one episode where they were going for a Scottish theme and LLB hand drew bagpipes and haggis onto the walls with felt tip pen Shock .

Lordamighty · 21/08/2018 11:43

Yes I worked with someone who was on one of the earlier episodes. She didn’t like what they had done & she let them know it. They paid her compensation for something that had gone wrong, no idea how much though.
She did really enjoy the experience though, just not the end result.

Wasn’t there an episode were after it aired the owners were in the papers as their real reaction wasn’t aired, they had to film a less ‘sweary’ Reaction for the telly ?
Didn’t they call the room a ‘whorehouse’ or something when they saw it ?

The only one I can remember was where they turned some poor woman's dining room into something from a gothic horror film. She was apoplectic which was a first on the show because most of them just simpered. I laughed Blush

CrazyDogLady87 · 21/08/2018 11:58

oh my god i loved them shows! there was hardly ever any good one yet they always seemed "pleased" Shock Shock

Nicknacky · 21/08/2018 12:05

There is a MN poster who was on changing rooms, MrsDeVere possibly? Think she liked her make over.

I’ve never seen the teapot episode! Holy crap 😳😂

justpoppngby · 21/08/2018 12:11

I used to love those shows purely for the cringe factor 🤭
We moved into our house about 20yrs ago and we reckon that changing rooms , and the like, we're the most favourite programmes of the two sisters who owned it previously due to the completely and utterly awful attempts at decorating. 😳 luckily I've worked as a professional designer of rooms and theatre stages etc so it was rectified easily but what a laugh we had 😬

TheMarrowOfTime · 21/08/2018 12:36

I always remember thinking that if I were to go on there I'd be praying to get Graham Wynne and not LLB or Anna Ryder Richardson.

He was also visually challenged, which probably helped.

I know the smashed teapot people....................Wink

ShirleyPhallus · 21/08/2018 12:40

The only one I can remember was where they turned some poor woman's dining room into something from a gothic horror film.

Came on here to say this one exactly!

It had black and white chequered floor, a huge dining table and horrible gothic chandeliers

Oldraver · 21/08/2018 12:42

My next-door-but-two had a make over show in within weeks of moving in. The first I knew was when I saw a camera man and one of the hosts marching up and down the road doing re-takes.

Think it was a programme with two brothers or something called maybe...Two Strong guys.

Apparently they redecorated the day after filming

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 21/08/2018 12:48

No but my neighbour of the time had their garden done by Ground Force. It was bloody awful. I’ve done in a beautiful terraced Victorian house with very long, narrow, but lovely gardens. At the end hers was awash with trellis and fake sleepers and gravel, all the former two painted bright turquoise and mauve Envy. The trellis blew down in the first light wind which was probably a blessing. DP of the time was a friend of one of the presenters. Let’s put it this way, they wouldn’t have it in their own garden.....

ChristmasIsMyFavourite · 21/08/2018 12:51

I was always baffled by the need to have a theme for the room....they seemed to over complicate everything- why not paint in a lovely colour, add a lamp and some nice cushions????

trampolinemum · 21/08/2018 12:52

Wasn't there one where they turned some woman's bedroom into a cheap whorehouse complete with knickers pinned to the wall? I seem to remember there were zebra prints involved.

IhatetheArchers · 21/08/2018 12:54

I'd forgotten all about changing rooms! Wasn't there one that ended up looking like a reimagining of a French bordello and a down-market theme pub?

Corneliusmurphy · 21/08/2018 13:00

Can you still find the episodes? I thought I heard LLB and co blocked them ever being showed again as it made them look so bad!
I’m sure I remember an article with him and the wife in their home which was all basically tasteful bland magnolia not a gothic dragon cupboard in sight...

Springersrock · 21/08/2018 13:03

Yes

Number 6 in the link above

It was truly awful. Bit didn’t last long
