Do you know anyone that had a room redecorate by "Changing rooms"?

The episode of the smashed teapots just popped into my head and i went on a wee google changing room rampage. Some -most- of the designs are so shit and I've just seen some up close pictures of the work and it's horrendous.

Just wondered if any of you had appeared on it and what was the outcome? Did you love it, hate it? Did they restore things if they were shit?

I did phone the City Gardener programme to apply to go on there, but They said as I lived in a town, not a city I couldn’t go on. Sad

Wasn't there one where one of the presenters (possibly Graham Wynne, but I can't remember) decided to spray paint two antique, upholstered chairs, to change their colour from a pale blue to black, and it went horribly wrong, and they had to pay to have the chairs professionally reupholstered?

It was one of the few times that they actually owned up, on the show, to having got something terribly wrong.

I wish they would show them again.

Cocolepew · 21/08/2018 14:21

I could never understand why they took out perfectly nice and comfy sofas and bulit a mdf one with a couple of cushions on it.
It would be more comfortable to sit on a park bench .

GirlCroosh · 21/08/2018 14:26

Oh I vividly remember one when LLB "roughed up" someone's lovely freshly plastered walls they had just paid ££ for. They were livid. I miss this show.

PinguDance · 21/08/2018 14:40

Is it wrong that I quite like no 3 ‘tent house penthouse’ in that buzfeed link? Blush I remember one episode where Linda (?) painted freehand designs on the walls and the neighbour just painted over it before the big reveal without telling her.

Dowser · 21/08/2018 14:51

I used to feel for the people who still had wet paint yet they were hanging up curtains
It was gross
Another one where they painted the floor and it wouldn’t dry
Was horrendous
Those poor people
I used to say to my kids, don’t you ever have anyone change my white rooms into anything garish
I love my white walls
I’d never speak to them again

Whisky2014 · 21/08/2018 14:56

Oh Yes dowser was it black gloss paint?

Those teapots!!! GrinGrinGrin
It was always going to happen...the shelves were hanging in the middle of the room??!!!!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 21/08/2018 15:16
Grin

I always felt sorry when one house ended up with something reasonably okay (in hindsight did this ever happen?!) and the other ended up with one from the BuzzFeed article.

Generally the team responsible had been pressured by the design team and they always looked mortified during the reveal. How did friendships survive?!

livefornaps · 21/08/2018 15:18

I used to have a really wrong crush on LLB.

It was like he was so cringeworthy that it was exciting...!

livefornaps · 21/08/2018 15:21

Arch now I have that stupid sax theme tune stuck in my head.

Do-do do-do dooooo

AnnabelleLecter · 21/08/2018 15:32

The teapots saga was bound to happen. They weren't known for being sensible but that was awful and yet fucking hilarious Grin .

Bring it back I say, I loved it.

Whisky2014 · 21/08/2018 15:33

I also think they should bring it back!

I remember the one when Graham decided to do an 'African' themed bathroom and painted all the walls shit brown and stuck sticks on top.

The owners were like > Confused

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 21/08/2018 15:47

That sounds amazing Gretchen Grin

I can envisage a student version. I'm sure some unscrupulous landlords would be up for it. The shit design could well be an improvement Wine

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 21/08/2018 15:47

livefornaps that made me lol

ManicUnicorn · 21/08/2018 15:56

When you type Changing Rooms into YouTube 'changing rooms teapots' comes up as one of the top searches. Such an iconic moment it was.

waffileyversatile · 21/08/2018 16:07

Yes to compensated. So, so funny Grin

Blobby10 · 21/08/2018 16:16

My house had the master bedroom done! Its lovely except for the weird mirrors stuck onto the plyboard attached to the wardrobe doors Smile. Dont know what the other house looked like though!

CakeNinja · 21/08/2018 16:21

Yes yes yes, the tarts boudoir! I looked for it in the buzzfeed article but it’s not there Shock
It had a black and white checkerboard floor I think, and it was all red and black walls/decor. Utterly gross Grin

Whisky2014 · 21/08/2018 16:26

blobby you mean yours was done before you moved in? Cause otherwise I thought the people doing each other's homes did know each other. Can we see pics?

livefornaps · 21/08/2018 16:26

Ouuuh @gareth, I live to please

AnnabelleLecter · 21/08/2018 16:39

Changing rooms is probably responsible for all the safe grey and white decor.

I would definitely want LLB for my house.
Maximalism and flamboyance.
Hell Yeah!

MozzieMagnet · 21/08/2018 16:41

And this is why I love Bobby on Queer Eye the most...he transforms places with naice stuff not mdf tat! Wink

MozzieMagnet · 21/08/2018 16:44

Always thought Graham and Linda were the LWMOCR.*
Looking back, not so sure now about any of them.
