It’s so sad what happened to Dairy Milk. I’m not a particularly discerning chocolate eater but even I can’t stomach it much these days. It’s like losing an old friend.

mizu · 18/08/2018 18:59

Montezuma's chocolate buttons are great. Lindt. Also, the big gold bars of chocolate they sell in IKEA - can't remember the name off hand.

Agree about Cadbury and am another who would like to know if profits have fallen over the last year.

PolkerrisBeach · 18/08/2018 19:03

AFAIK Lindt and Ritter are palm oil free if you stick to their standard milk or plain chocolate. They do use palm oil in fillings - so things like those Lindor chocolate balls or the Ritter filled with praline as it's the oil which keeps the fillings gooey.

www.lindt.co.uk/world-of-lindt/sustainability/sustainable-palm-oil/

www.ritter-sport.de/en_GB/nutrition_health/zutaten/Nutrition-health-Fats-and-oils-RITTER-SPORT-00007/

Both of these companies are very transparent about where they use palm oil, if you google "lindt palm oil" or "ritter palm oil" those links are in the first couple of results. Google "Cadbury palm oil" and there's nothing apart from articles with people complaining.

Not good, Cadbury.

PerverseConverse · 18/08/2018 19:05

@mizu where can I buy those buttons? I've only ever seen the big jars in John Lewis and don't have £20 for chocolate buttons!

Retreatbynameretreatbynature · 18/08/2018 19:17

I’ve just ordered some bars from Love Cocoa purely for research purposes you understand!! Now I just have to find somewhere to hide my secret stash from the DCs!

PolaDeVeboise · 18/08/2018 19:32

I've just splurged on Love Cocoa too - didn't see the blardy spinner thingy though! Very excited!

TheSassyAssassin · 18/08/2018 20:06

We need to do some live Love Cocoa taste testing on this thread next week methinks! Wink

HashTagLil · 18/08/2018 20:21

I've ordered some Love Cocoa chocolate to try. Had a 10% code. Would be rude not to.

LemonRedwood · 18/08/2018 20:54

When you create an account on Love Cocoa you get an email from James with a 10% discount code so you should get some money off even if you miss the spinny wheel!

mizu · 18/08/2018 21:07

Perverseconverse - used to get them from our local health food shop Grin big bags for about £2.50. Now you can get them in Sainsburys - I buy a bag of milk ones and dark ones and mix them up. Think the bags have shrunk though. Can get them in Waitrose too.

mizu · 18/08/2018 21:07

PS have never seen big jars of them!

happysunr1se · 18/08/2018 21:24

My SIL has given me a bar of milk chocolate by Ombar.

Ingredients;
coconut sugar
Raw cacao
Creamed coconut
Cocoa butter
Ground vanilla pods
Live culture

All of which are certified organic and the cocoa solids is 55%

It’s the first time I’ve tried it and it’s pretty good.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 18/08/2018 21:45

Nestle Crunch is still untouched.

Ritter Sport is nice and Lidl their own Aero type chocolate that tasted nice.

PerverseConverse · 18/08/2018 22:02

@mizu thanks. Am off to Waitrose next week to check out their bread so will have a look.

CanYouHearThat · 18/08/2018 22:04

I hope the love cocoa chocolate is good. I just had to order 10 bars to qualify for the free delivery Grin

00100001 · 18/08/2018 22:32

In the interests of fair play. I shall purchase suggested chocolates and rank them .... I’ll take one for the team!

ChardonnaysPrettySister Just rechecked and the Milka in my fridge says cocoa butter in three different languages. However, I don't live in UK, so it might be different, as chocolate is one of the Holy Trinity here, alongside beer and frites.

Gardai · 18/08/2018 22:47

Just ordered from love cocoa too ! I told them there was a chat on here too.
Am so sick of shit chocolate I have given up trying...finished off today with having some of my favourite green & blacks to find it had turned oily and bland too.
Am unnaturally excited for the post next week...imagine the taste of real chocolate again yaaay.

00100001 · 18/08/2018 23:00

I promise I’m not a shareholder in love cocoa!

Just ordered some too!

Love Cocoa will have certainly seen their sales go up today! Everyone needs to report back on their taste experiences. I've ordered the 37% milk chocolate and the salted caramel bar. 8 bars in total. I've very much gone off chocolate the last couple of months as had dreadful reflux and gastritis and have found it tastes horrible: very cloying texture and nasty after taste. Sticks in the throat. Kind of what I'd expect from Hershey's but not as bad. But maybe it's not me and is the quality of the chocolate. Can't wait to try to new stuff. I used to buy a big bag of buttons daily when first breastfeeding and ate other chocolate each day too. Now I rarely buy any, not even for the children, so profits must have gone down considering I'm not the only one who's not buying anymore.

Fatbelliedgirl · 18/08/2018 23:21

Forgot to mention Godiva Chocolates...pricey but very good

redcaryellowcar · 18/08/2018 23:22

Buy montezumas, you can get it in the few shops they have, or online or in Waitrose? They do a brilliant range of bars, truffles. Chocolate buttons etc.

PerverseConverse · 18/08/2018 23:26

@Fatbelliedgirl is Godiva the same here as in the USA? I bought some there years ago having heard of it and thought it very posh only to taste it and think it was rank and not much better than evil Hershey's. I'm talking 2004 so back when Cadbury's was as it should be as this was my gold standard. Although I liked Lindt 51% cocoa too which you can't get now. Closest I've found is the Waitrose dark Belgian chocolate bar.

soupforbrains · 18/08/2018 23:27

Palm oil gives me the rage and nowadays it's insanely hard to avoid buying stuff with it in because it's in EVERYTHING.

I too noticed the chocolate behaving weirdly when I was trying to melt it for baking. I don't eat much chocolate so it was the first thing I noticed.

Am off to check out Love Cocoa. A) I'm glad they're making 'proper' chocolate and B) I'm a sucker for a bit of a family heritage thing.

PerverseConverse · 18/08/2018 23:29

£4.59 for a bag of chocolate buttons!!! JFC!
