Maybe I should offer to start shipping chocolate to people from Belgium. It's really good here, but then they're only allowed to use cocoa butter, no other fats.

Heratnumber7 · 20/08/2018 07:40

Perverse I had a bar of G&B last week. That's gone down the same route as Cadbury chocolate - it's also owned by Mondeleez.

Mbear · 20/08/2018 07:42

I buy the love cocoa chocolate as mentioned and also Callebaut from amazon - there seems to be no palm oil in that. We use it for cooking and melting to make truffles/Easter eggs etc and DH uses the plain choc for general chocolate snacking 😁

OutPinked · 20/08/2018 07:55

This happened pre-Brexit but I love the things Brexit can be blamed for, it does make me chuckle Grin.

Chocolate has been naff for a fair few years now. Cadbury’s sold out to the Americans and as a result it is now terrible chocolate. Nestle has always been ming. Mars is probably about the best of the three but still not great, lots of palm oil.

Lindt has always been good but I can only have a small amount before I feel like I need to vomit.

OutPinked · 20/08/2018 07:56

The worst thing I have tried recently is kit kats. They’ve reduced the sugar a ridiculous amount and they now taste absolutely vile. I won’t make that mistake again.

Applesandpears23 · 20/08/2018 08:01

I thought my cadburys was melting which is why it had lost its snap. It tastes better when its been in the fridge.

WindyWednesday · 20/08/2018 08:07

The lovecocca website has a very interesting timeline of Cadbury history. Which I suspect is the closest mr Cadbury can get to saying they’ve ruined his family brand.

TheSassyAssassin · 20/08/2018 08:14

I just got email confirmation that my Love Cocoa order is on its way! Whoop whoop whoop! Now that's a good way to start a Monday Smile

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 20/08/2018 08:22

My favourite biscuits contain palm oil in Belgium and only butter in France.

Identical packaging.

So I would be a bit wary of Belgian chocolate too.

Roxers · 20/08/2018 08:30

I noticed the timeline too, @Applesandpears23, nicely salty! Grin

I have had an email too @TheSassyAssassin, hurrah!

TheSassyAssassin · 20/08/2018 08:32

Hurrah indeed @Roxers. This week is looking up! Smile

PerverseConverse · 20/08/2018 08:39

@WindyWednesday yes, I noticed the hostile takeover on the timeline. The Cadbury's family have nothing to do with the brand now. I guess they get money though from Mondalez using the name and can't afford to stand on principle and not allow them to use their name. Essentially Cadbury's isn't Cadbury's at all so should be given another name as Mondalez are now peddling an inferior product under a highly respected red name which is bringing that name into disrepute.

PerverseConverse · 20/08/2018 08:44

My order is on its way too! I also had this email:

Hi PerverseConverse,

Thanks for getting in touch and for taking the time to email.

I do hope you like the chocolate and buttons is a great idea, we will see what we can do!

Very best,
James

SmileSmileSmileSmile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/08/2018 08:47

But the timeline doesn't say 'circa 2015 cadbury's started tasting shit.'

PerverseConverse · 20/08/2018 08:49

Because it was taken over in 2010 so he couldn't comment on the product after that.

Justonedayatatime11 · 20/08/2018 09:01

Bit late to the party but just ordered from Love Cocoa. Can someone please report back when they receive theirs whether it's good or not?!

TheSassyAssassin · 20/08/2018 09:11

Live taste testing will be happening on the thread at some point this week Just so you aren't too late to party! Wink

WindyWednesday · 20/08/2018 09:26

Cadbury started tasting greasy after 2010.

It’s so oily now. You have to keep it in the fridge to get it hard otherwise it’s a constant state of melt.

I’m very tempted to try love cocoa

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 20/08/2018 10:00

Got a Love Cocoa email as well!

wombatsears · 20/08/2018 10:00

Interestingly, according to Cadbury Wikipedia page, in 2009, Kraft (now Mondelez) changed the recipe to replace cocoa butter with palm oil as "a response to consumer demand to improve taste and texture."

Yes, I clearly remember the public complaining that their beloved Dairy Milk that they had enjoyed for generations wasn't sickly or waxy enough. Funnily enough they never labelled the new bars as 'improved recipe' after the changes.

HollyGibney · 20/08/2018 10:08

Love if someone could do a taste test and review back here. I don't buy Cadbury anymore, stick to Lindt and M&S chocolates. I can't afford anymore Chocolate Mistakes.

HollyGibney · 20/08/2018 10:10

I find that while Cadbury is soft and greasy out of the fridge it doesn't melt in the mouth the way it used to. It tasted like actual food before, now it's very synthetic and you really have to work to eat it.

RiceButt · 20/08/2018 10:13

I've just checked my stash of Flakes, which has been my go to chocolate for a few months now, and now I know why. No palm oil in Flakes.

I've also just ordered some chocolate from Love Coca. I wasn't going to bother until someone up thread mentioned earl grey chocolate 🤤

LemonRedwood · 20/08/2018 10:19

paap1975 Yes please! My stock from recent trip to Bruges has just run out Grin

My Love Cocoa order is on its way too. Home from holiday on Weds, shall report back immediately!

Perverse It's nice you got a response. I wonder if James himself is aware or if the email has come from the marketing team.

WhatsInAnotherNameChange · 20/08/2018 10:26

Green & Black is owned by Mondelèz, but it's got no palm oil.

It's the 'gourmet' end of its range.

Organic, fairly traded chocolate.

I do like the milk version, but I only buy it occasionally.
