I haven't RTFT so sorry if this has been mentioned already. There is a petition to ban products which are made using unsustainably sourced palm oil. It might not solve the chocolate crisis but it might help to reduce the demand which is devastating rainforests... although I imagine sustainably sourced palm oil is considerably more expensive and so less profitable, so maybe it will solve the chocolate crisis!

Palm oil is in all kinds of things Roxers - Nutella is the worst, it's mostly palm oil! It's in all kinds of processed food though - Müsli Bars, crisps, biscuits, peanut butter, almost any baked goods especially but really anything processed might contain it, you have to read the label.

TheSassyAssassin · 19/08/2018 12:03

It's also in loads of beauty products from shampoo to cosmetics! Hmm

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 19/08/2018 12:05

In most soaps, too.

Gardai · 19/08/2018 12:35

I am much happier eating good quality chocolate in small amounts rather than hulking great bars of Palm oil from the £ shop that taste of gritty greasy cardboard.
Yes it’s expensive, but chocolate should be a treat ?
Now, do I let kids in on the fact they haven’t been eating real chocolate for years ? I’m sure they have wondered why mum never touches their chocolate bars.
Still excited at pending delivery of real chocolate.

Roxers · 19/08/2018 12:41

Bloody hell @blueskiesandforests I had absolutely NO idea.

bluetongue · 19/08/2018 12:55

I just did a comparison between UK Cadbury Dairy Milk and UK. Australian version definitely has no palm oil.

MrsMozart · 19/08/2018 14:20

JLG19 signed.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 19/08/2018 15:58

I've signed it too. Thanks for posting.

Jozxyqk · 19/08/2018 19:00

I have also signed the palm oil petition. Thanks for the link.

I'm looking forward to Christmas chocolates. Although even those aren't the same. I love Quality Street but last year I ate the pure chocolate one and don't eat any more of those 🤮 Still love most of the others though especially the toffee deluxe. I hoard them in the run up to Christmas then open once the children break up from school. Chocolate orange isn't as nice either. Funny how these firms that get taken over end up with inferior products. Maybe we should all email customer services at Cadbury and Terry's (nestle) and tell them what we think. If every one on this thread did that there'd be an influx of emails from unhappy customers and they might listen. I'm going to do it tomorrow.

We used to bring back Milka from Europe by the suitcaseful. Not keen on it now. Lindt mint excellence is nice. But their milk chocolate is rank. I will eat Hotel Chocolat when finances allow, Their easter eggs are lovely. Monty Bojangles Choccy Scoffy is good. But so often I have been to many supermarkets in Italy and found their value own brand to be delicious. We have lost our chocolate making skills in the country!

thenorthernluce · 19/08/2018 20:30

I bought three non-palm oil milk chocolates today: montezuma’s giant buttons, Godiva milk choc bar and Sainsbury’s milk choc bar.

In the interests of research, I just ate half the giant buttons. Not great - tasted just like bleugh Cadbury’s. I’ll sample the rest over the week.

INeedNewShoes · 19/08/2018 20:40

I'm on a constant quest for chocolate without nuts, soya or Palm oil. There's plenty of dark chocolate to choose from but finding milk chocolate is tricky.

My list so far is:

Divine milk chocolate (I like this)

Chocolate Trading Co. own brand (really nice but too pricey for anything but a very special treat)

Montezuma (I often have very mild allergic reactions to this which must be due to cross contamination from nutty bars)

Waitrose One (ok but a bit too caramel in flavour for me)

Cluzel (nice but too expensive)

I'm going to look into some of the other suggestions on this thread and see how they compare.

JuneFromBethesda · 19/08/2018 21:53

Ooh I like the sound of the Waitrose 1 bar INeed, I’ll try that one - thanks!

washewihersen · 19/08/2018 22:27

The Godiva praline bar I bought recently had palm oil in it.

Scifi101 · 19/08/2018 22:32

Does milka have palm oil in it now if they have been bought out ?

INeedNewShoes · 19/08/2018 23:07

Anyone dealing with nut allergies, a word of warning that Milka has hazelnuts in it.

PerverseConverse · 19/08/2018 23:20

Milka alpine doesn't contain palm oil according to Ocado info. But it's got nuts so it's s no for me.
Disappointed that Montezumas buttons weren't good for pp

Rollonweekend · 20/08/2018 01:36

Mainstream chocolate is ruined. Cadbury’s started and I now can’t bear their products - it subliminally put me off galaxy also so now I just buy green and blacks but as a treat only.

PerverseConverse · 20/08/2018 06:59

Green and blacks is owned by the same company as Cadbury's though.
If the montezumas buttons taste like Cadbury's ones then the issue can't be palm oil as the montezumas ones don't contain it.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 20/08/2018 07:04

Also crisps - there are about 3 in a packet now. Do merchandisers or producers think we're actually thick? Boycott I say.

Tiggles · 20/08/2018 07:28

I have to recommend nom nom chocolate from Wales especially their espresso martini bar but it is an expensive treat.
Company started by a young Chap and would be great if it continues to succeed.
