Welcome to our newest faculty building. Make yourselves comfortable and ignore the smell of paint. We cannot keep up with the demand for new premises.

Just a peck on the cheek wuld be okay, though, wouldn't it, MrsLNP? Mr Thornton is very lovely.

I knew that not everyone would enjoy that video in its entirety, but hoped that the other half wowuld compensate. I quite agree about Messrs Depp and Pitt but can understand what ladies see in Mr Craig, especially in Casino Royale. After all, it's widely agreed in the common room that a combination of blue eyes and broad chest is not wholly unattractive.

Holly - Do you have some lethal form of food processor? Ours refuses to go if the lid isn't on.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 21/12/2010 20:09

Dixon would have had apoplexy, there were brown globs on the ceiling. I don't think Limpopoian electrical goods manufacturers are all that safety conscious. Or you must have a posh one as I remember Ainsley and co having similar cock-ups on Ready Steady Cook

I couldn't comment on the vid, for the usual reasons. I admit I have cast interested eyes on various blokes in my time and found them fair, but no one has ever floated my boat like the tsunami that is Mr A.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 21/12/2010 20:14

A life on the ocean wave! A home on the rolling deep! Where the scattered waters rave, and the winds their revels keep!

I doubt our food processor is posh but it is new, since its worthy predecessor bit the dust, so probably conforms to the latest safety regulations.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 21/12/2010 20:29

I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by

I can tell you, I feel like chucking my food processor out now

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 21/12/2010 20:43

Oh Lordy, Holly. Do be careful. That's how accidents happen, when you're distracted.

The Poet always quotes the Spike Milligan version of that pome.

I must go down to the sea again,
to the lonely sea and the sky.
I left my shoes and socks there -
I wonder if they're dry.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 21/12/2010 20:52

I wonder if he knows my favourite?

There are holes in the sky
Where the rain gets in,
But they're ever so small
That's why rain is thin.

Re the novel new decor in the kitchen. Serves me right for being poncey and not opening a tin when I wanted some soup.

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorthPole · 21/12/2010 21:01

You can't beat homemade soup though, can you Holly?

On the subject of homemade I just had a rummaged round t'interweb for N & S fanfic (purely in the name of research of course) - good Lord, most of it is dire!

Theresahollyinyourmind · 21/12/2010 21:11

Maybe not, MrsLNP,but I prefer it in my bowl rather than on the walls and floor. And there I was planning to dish some up to poor Lucas and Uthred.
I guess a lot of fanfic is written by very young people.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 21/12/2010 21:18

I think the Rain poem is in Offspring's Milligan book. Is your ceiling very high, Holly? Will Dixon need a scaffold tower to reach it?

I get the impression that a lot of fanfic is written by Kevin and Perry of Runcorn Romances plc.

MrsLucasNorthPole · 21/12/2010 21:25

I've only read a couple of short ones which were horrendous with John & Margaret behaving totally out of character purely so the authors could factor in some naughtiness.

At least with the Guy fanfic the other day it seemed fairly true to their on-screen portrayal (although Holly would be better able to comment on that as I've only seen about 6 episodes of RH)

Am ploughing through a lengthy N & S one which is better but they are just about to get married so I suspect things could go rapidly downhill.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 21/12/2010 21:28

I rather like
''I'm walking backwards for Christmas,'' too. And it's seasonal.

I think I shall have to let Dixon off cleaning my ceiling, she is rather comfortable of figure and I don't want her to fall off her step ladder and do herself a mischief. I need someone really tall (say about 6' 2'')who can just whisk it off with a damp sponge mop...

That's what Kevin and Perry might tell you about the fanfic, snort, snigger, but I fear they farm the writing out to their little groupies, Kylie, Britney and Chantelle

OP posts:
Theresahollyinyourmind · 21/12/2010 21:34

TBH about that fanfic you mentioned, MrsLNP, I thought it made them a little too 21st century, for me. And Guy was in general a bit gabbier than he is on screen.
But it was definitely one of the better ones

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 21/12/2010 21:37

Ah, that figures. Runcorn Romances plc is obviously a sizeable enterprise and thus able to employ Kylie (no, surely not the perfect pop princess?), Britney and Chantelle.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 21/12/2010 21:47

I suppose we ought to be grateful that they don't write in txt spk.

OP posts:
Theresahollyinyourmind · 21/12/2010 21:51

They are showing Dibley on BBC America, it seems...

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 21/12/2010 21:53

Indeed we should. Now, here's

MrsLucasNorthPole · 21/12/2010 21:54

The remainder of the N & S fanfic wasn't too bad - there was naughtiness, but only in Margaret's dreams - Mr Thornton remained a gentleman til the end!

MrsLucasNorthPole · 21/12/2010 21:57

We'll be needing a new home soon won't we?

Theresahollyinyourmind · 21/12/2010 22:01

There is, indeed, everything on YT! Huzzah!

Phew! What a relief that Mr T. remained a gentleman, MrsLNP. Missy wuld have had to employ her hatpin on the perpetrators, otherwise.

It is getting near That Time again. Who is going to do the honours>

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorthPole · 21/12/2010 22:04

I'll start it up, but then off for a bath and bit more Uthred!

MrsLucasNorthPole · 21/12/2010 22:09

time to move to a new safe house

Theresahollyinyourmind · 21/12/2010 22:09

I do hope the other faculty members will not get lost, during the transfer.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 21/12/2010 22:19

You misunderstand me, perhaps. If somebody wrote something beautiful, truthful and transcendent about Mr Thornton I would be delighted (although not to the extent of actually reading it). But, yes, if it was a puerile travesty of Mrs Gaskell's immortal creation then I might be tempted to sharpen the hatpin.
