Welcome to our newest faculty building. Make yourselves comfortable and ignore the smell of paint. We cannot keep up with the demand for new premises.

Hello, Snowy.

Veux-tu prendre une verre de Chateau Gizzy ce soir?

SnowyMoon · 20/12/2010 20:08

Ooh why not

You are right Missy, I may have to investigate the original novel a little further to save on my heating bills Grin

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 20/12/2010 20:18

Scholars here will be pleased to know that last night's French resource - kindly supplied by Dr Serge Gainsbourg and Dr Jane Birkin - has just been a question on University Challenge.

They heard it here first, at the Academy! The premier learning facility for all your cultural trivia.

Trivia? Trivia?

Theresahollyinyourmind · 20/12/2010 21:05

Sorry, too much Chateau Gizzy caused me to misspeak myself. Deep and meaningful multi-cultural induction and philosphical enlightenment, I should have said

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 20/12/2010 21:18

Oh, this is indeed the Enlightenment.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 20/12/2010 21:24

Here is some enlightenment our chevalier sans peur et avec beaucoup de reproche could have done without.

Oh that's a beautiful photo, Missy. I've not seen that one before. I don't give Mr Thornton much attention, having not seen all of his ouevre, but he is very pretty indeed [shallow emoticon]

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 20/12/2010 21:31

Eeewww. What a relief that the image is cropped.

Just as a sorbet between the courses will refresh the palate, this will refresh the eyes and soul.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 20/12/2010 21:33

Oh, Twiggy, you really must rectify that gap in your knowledge. North and South is just so .... so .... s0 ....

Theresahollyinyourmind · 20/12/2010 21:38

Oh, yes Twigs, N&S is pure bliss. And so is the original book. They complement each other perfectly. And if you discount dear Harry, it's just about the only happy Armitage ending there is.

I am still very uneasy about that poor slave man.

Dare I ask our resident Hobbit-fanciers what happens to Thorin Oakenshield at the end of that tome (not that his fate in the film will necessarily be the same)?

Theresahollyinyourmind · 20/12/2010 21:51

Hopefully not something like this, Missy.

I have not read The Hobbit but according to the U. of Wiki, he's mortally wounded in a battle, and dies.

Figures.

Apologies for my disappearance, DS2 is poorly Sad. He has a raging temp and has been half asleep but crying and not really consolable. I poured more medicine down him (with a tiny bit of choc to help the taste) and he is finally calming a bit. He's only little. Sad

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 20/12/2010 21:59

Of course, our rival establishment, the U of Wiki.

What think you of that picture, Holly? It floateth not my boat, but then my tastes are a little odd individual.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 20/12/2010 22:08

Oh dear, Stripey. Would StripeyBoy like a

Theresahollyinyourmind · 20/12/2010 22:13

Poor lamb, Snowy. I am so sorry -- for you both, because it must be horrible for you too. I do he he's beter son..

Re the picture. It made me think of poor Uhtred, betrayed into slavery. I do like Guy spruced up, for true boat-floating, but bedraggled brings out my nurturing side.

It looks like Thorin has a noble death speech too:

"I go now to the halls of waiting to sit beside my fathers, until the world is renewed. Since I leave now all gold and silver, and go where it is of little worth, I wish to part in friendship from you, and I would take back my words and deeds at the Gate ... There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. But sad or merry, I must leave it now. Farewell!"

''hope he's better soon'', I mean, Snowy. Sorry!

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 20/12/2010 22:17

Aww.

We've had cross-bow wielding Guy in the parlour tonight. Quite a sight. Offspring is making plans for what we'll do once we've run out of RH.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 20/12/2010 22:20

If SnowyBoy (sorry I got the nomenclature wrong earlier) is no better in the morning, Snowy really must call a doctor.
