Welcome to the new common room! Grab yourself some Twiglets and a glass of Chateau Gisborne or some Polish Cordial and come on in - the water's lovely!

That Sparkhouse vid was awful cute. Doesn't he scrub up well? Another one for my list, it seems.

Bodenbabe · 03/12/2010 21:25

He's not exasperated in my head :) I linked to this a while ago for another reason but Guy's blissful state in those photos reminds me of this Botticelli painting of Mars. I've always found this image somewhat, ahem, inspiring and find myself thinking of it more since we begun our reasearch. <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.lib-art.com/imgpainting/0/0/7400-venus-and-mars-sandro-botticelli.jpg&imgrefurl=www.lib-art.com/art-prints/mars.html&usg=__8_5v8i6VERK-m2S4dCTnUCIEnro=&h=1055&w=801&sz=121&hl=en&start=21&zoom=1&tbnid=DV6G0NqVL5x_hM:&tbnh=208&tbnw=142&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmars%2Band%2Bvenus%2Bbotticelli%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D636%26tbs%3Disch:10%2C536&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=451&vpy=113&dur=78&hovh=258&hovw=196&tx=122&ty=93&ei=8lz5TJqKCoyA5AbA1vSeAw&oei=yVz5TLm_CNCwhAffoJn9CA&esq=2&page=2&ndsp=16&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:21&biw=1280&bih=636" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> Look, just like Guy...

MrsLN - Your link is offering me Harry Hill and Alan Partridge. Both fine in their way, but ...

Theresa - I liked the Bananarama soundtrack of the Sparkhouse vid.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 03/12/2010 21:36

Goodness, Boden Shock Blush

Bodenbabe · 03/12/2010 21:36

That's a beautiful picture of Mr Thornton, Flowers. And very Twiglety ears there! See, this is all your fault, Theresa - I had never noticed the ears before 'cos it was all about the eyes, for me. But now I'm wanting some Twiglets every time any posts a photo :)

I could only see Harry Hill on that vid too...

John Standring - can't imagine fancyiung him yet but he does seem adorable. Get back to me in the new year and see if I've changed my mind :)

Ahem Boden. Let us not forget that all paintings of Mr Thornton are beautiful, capturing as they do his inner and outer pulchritude.

And as for your ear fetish ...

I have only seen a short clip of Sparkhouse on YT but it seems evident that poor Ralph is going to be used and misused. I doubt it ends well.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 03/12/2010 21:44

The soundtrack is ideal for purpose in its cheese-tasticness, though Flowers.

Sometimes cheese-tastic is good.

A shame Botticelli never saw Guy, his paintings would have been even better.

asmallbunchofflowers · 03/12/2010 21:59

Cheesetastic is always good.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 03/12/2010 22:03

Boden I hope you don't think I was shocked at you. I was shocked at my own thoughts.

Bodenbabe · 03/12/2010 22:07

Oh, does Sparkhouse have a sad ending? Actually, maybe don't answer, for those who are watching it at the moment. Oh, I'm sad for him now :(

Flowers, of course, he is beautifulness personified. Even with the silly sideburns :)

Oh me too, Theresa, me too!! I Shock'd at the original photos so I think we are of a like mind on this! So it's not just me then, that painting is 'inspiring', isn't it?! I used to spend many a lunch hour staring at him in the National Gallery.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofflowers · 03/12/2010 22:12

Boden - I don't know the ending of Sparkhouse but I'm assuming that as it is based on Wuthering Heights they probably don't all live happily ever after. As it is the season of goodwill, I am prepared just this once to disregard your slighting reference to Mr Thornton's very fine sideburns.

MrsLucasNorth · 03/12/2010 22:15

Ralph doesn't come off as badly as you might think, actually. I thought it was well worth a look regardless of the Armitage factor and have lent it to a friend this evening.

If you search on YT for 'richard armitage yours' you'll get him reading a lovely poem with N & S pics - am sure I've posted it previously anyway.

asmallbunchofflowers · 03/12/2010 22:15

I'll have to go back to the NG to have another look at Mars. He looks a bit, well, fey to me.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 03/12/2010 22:16
Bodenbabe · 03/12/2010 22:18

I had no idea it was based on Wuthering Heights!

I don't know what it is about the sideburns, I've never liked them. They're just a bit... Chas & Dave.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofflowers · 03/12/2010 22:18

OK, then, you've left me no choice. I have to ask. Who is Hev off EastEnders?

Bodenbabe · 03/12/2010 22:20

Oh I'm so pleased for him, MrsLN!

Flowers, no, he's just in touch with his feminine side :)

OP posts:
asmallbunchofflowers · 03/12/2010 22:21

That's what I love about this thread and its predecessors. The cultural references run the gamut from Emily Dickinson to Chas and Dave.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 03/12/2010 22:26

Boden, those sideburns perfectly echo and balance the lines of The Nose, as that last portrait demonstrates so admirably.. To me, they're de-lovely.

I think the problem of Mars is with the head
And the shoulders could have been a wee bit broader. After all he is the god of war. But very nice.

MrsLucasNorth · 03/12/2010 22:28

Boden - it's a very modern, role reversed version of WH. I found it very difficult to have any sympathy with the male lead at all by the end of it. Has made we want to re-read the book to see if I feel the same way about Cathy.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 03/12/2010 22:31

The Wikipedia knows all

She is a big George Micheel fan

Theresaholeinyourmind · 03/12/2010 22:32

Cathy is a pain, IIRC, Mrs LN

Bodenbabe · 03/12/2010 22:32

Theresa, I have read that it isn't a very good painting, anatomically-speaking. The torso and legs look wrong to me...
