The twaddle continues ......

Golly how does he keep this up? As one might say.

I expect you are all swooning on your respectve carpets. Mrs LN I am serious, you really ought to write for Mills and Boon. Perhaps in one of their saucier series,,,

Lovely.

Fettle · 10/11/2010 22:20

Wow!!! Luckily I'm already lying down!!!Grin He's certainly got some admirable stamina does our Guy!!

Another couple of perfect instalments MrsLN. Lucky MrN!!!Wink

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 10/11/2010 22:23

Wow again.

So much imagination. Both MrsLN's and Guy's.

I've been down to the basement book stack again. The soundtrack here is maybe a tad obvious but .

Thank you very much ladies. Am having so much fun writing these. Would love to make a career of it tbh but whilst I can write scenes it's stitching them all together I have a problem with which makes novels a bit tricky (have been trying to finish the same one for about 20 years!)

Perhaps I should go down the soft porn erotic fiction route instead - not so much need for a formal narrative structure.

Anyway, the real MrN is home now so I may be gone awhile!!! Grin

Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/11/2010 22:30

They never spoke a truer word, Flowers. I wish they'd used the version from The Full Monty though, it was funnier.
Meanwhile I have been trawling the sub-basement and come across this little item as a subject for study.
From George Gently

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 10/11/2010 22:35

Had meant to say, Theresa, that there's Fallen Angel Face at 1:30.

That is a most arresting portrait (probably literally so, if it's from George Gently, arf arf). I seldom watch Goerge Gently because it is, frankly, dull and have only seen it in the YT clips.

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorth · 10/11/2010 22:51

Blimey, Theresa! Those pics are seriously gorgeous!

Just as well since MrN is currently watching 'Fringe' with a cup of sodding tea.

Sadly he does not possess GTN's stamina...

Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/11/2010 22:56

FAF seems to be popular with vid editors..

Coming back from the sub-basement, the amount of stuff about RA that is out there is phenomenal. Some good, some utterly bonkers.Shock

I know we are bonkers but we laugh at ourselves so it's okay bonkers. At least I keep telling myself that.

MrsLucasNorth · 10/11/2010 23:03

We're definitely ok bonkers!
I like to think that if RA stumbled across our mumsnet antics he'd have a good laugh rather than running a mile.
DD told me today that she fancies a North & South theme 7th birthday party next year rather than Rainbow Magic fairies.

It appears that the brainwashing is working - mwah, ha,ha,ha...!

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 10/11/2010 23:08

Understandably so, Theresa.

I haven't looked to see what there is online because I suspect that some of it may be truly deranged. Or offensive or intrusive. As I've said passim and ad nauseam, I think it's fine to swoon over the dramatis personae and then to laugh at ourselves for swooning, but what I've learnt from all this is that the internet makes it easy to take things to extremes and if I thought we were in any way adding to that I'd bail out.

How did you get on with your research into the use of the imperative to punctuate visual media?

OP posts:
ASmallBunchofFlowers · 10/11/2010 23:12

Well, I hope he'd laugh, MrsLN. Preferably with that slightly raised eyebrow and a tilt of the head to one side.

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/11/2010 23:13

You and Flowers are certainly bringing up the next generation properly, Mrs LN.

I shall don a CSI type baggy white plastic suit from now on and just pick out the good bits from the not good.

I am not too sure I gave my audio-visual project full justice last night, I kept getting distracted by extraneous thoughts each time one of the verbal puncuation points occured and didn't concentrate properly on the matter in hand.

I fear the whole data run will have to be abandoned and I shall have to repeat the entire study,

Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/11/2010 23:36

Stew for party food, and nmaybe cucumber sandwiches and ratafia biscuits to follow. With the fruit juice served in china teacups? And what about party bags?

We could sell themed party plans along with all our other fund-raising enterprises.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 10/11/2010 23:37

Oh yes. Very important to gather a large data set, before submitting it to statistical analysis. Presumably, there will be a control study in which you listen to the same imperatives uttered by, I dunno, Kermit the Frog.

OP posts:
ASmallBunchofFlowers · 10/11/2010 23:39

Party plans sound good - lots of money to be made there - although I am bit concerned at the Robin Hood Archery Party for Pre-Schoolers. Might be some health and safety issues?

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 10/11/2010 23:50

Tte trouble is with that partcular research project, I found, was I kept hearing other imperatives that were not actually there, but only in my head, and I kept muddling the two up.

Maybe the pre-schoolers could make their arrows out of play doh,

Then we could have pinning the donkey's tail on the Sheriff, Story Time with Maid Marion, and being very good and quiet around Sir Guy in case he's having a bad hair day

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 11/11/2010 00:00

All excellent ideas for the party plan business. You should be on The Apprentice!

Was thinking that for teenagers we could have Apply Eyeliner Like Guy, Style Your Bodice Like Marian and Pimp Your Horse. We could takeover the middle-aged men's paintball market with Swordplay the Gisborne Way.

Meanwhile, I've been writing another chapter for the thesis, this time on

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 11/11/2010 00:24

Well that was interesting ,Flowers. I supposed you noticed the way Guy caressed that grey horse's bottom, towards the end. Ha!

Oh gulp what a shame for the poor dear. In the RH episode last week, Marion and Robin were sitting together and chatting away like a couple of teenagers on a wall outside their houses, it was almost as if they had mobiles in their hands and were texting. I think she is to some extent fascinated by Guy but doesn't want to admit it, perhaps because it scares her, and Robin is safe and straightforward.

I can see why Guy is so smitten too, she's brave and bright and beautiful, and untainted by dark deeds as he is.

(Grrr)

It is allowed to analyse fictional characters, Flowers, tell me it is, we did it in Eng Lit classes Blush

Theresaholeinyourmind · 11/11/2010 00:28

Hmm, do we know aboutJohn Mulligan ?

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 11/11/2010 00:46

No, I hadn't noticed the horse's bottom. (And is bottom the correct terminology here? I thought you were an expert on all matters equestrian, pace your analysis of Guy's riding skills). I did notice, though, that he seems at one point to be uttering one of his legendary imperatives.

I think you're right about the nature of the attraction. Of course it's permitted to analyse fictional characters. We are bringing our critical faculties to bear on the mass-participation media of the age, to wit telly and YouTube. F R Leavis would be proud.

I think another of the students had mentioned Moving On. Being an academic snob, I fear that its transmission on daytime TV may be indicative of its not being a Quality Drama. But as was pointed out about Orange Jumpsuit Thing, it may still have some excellent, ahem, lighting and cinematography.

Booooiiinnnnggg. Time for bed.

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 11/11/2010 00:52

Hmm, I just watched Gimme Guy too, went down a treat with the Horlicks.

Goodnight!

PS re bottoms. I am relatively ignorant of equine terminology, but I knew the word wasn't peaches. Missed the Imperative, will check tomorrow.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 11/11/2010 00:56

Goodnight!

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorth · 11/11/2010 08:29

cravat as a blindfold

Flowers you are giving me all sorts of naughty ideas for Mr Thornton-North - shame it's nearly his bedtime.
Still, tomorrow is another day...Wink
