I am a Trad wife - ask me anything.

OP posts:
TuppenceM · 20/05/2026 14:53

What is your version of a “trad wife”

it is a meaningless term in itself

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 20/05/2026 14:53

What is a "trad wife" to you? Why do you assign such a label to yourself?

HollyhockDays · 20/05/2026 15:03

Define trad wife.

Manchegomango · 20/05/2026 15:05

What makes you think this is interesting enougj for an AMA?

7in1Pond · 20/05/2026 15:05

People mean such different things by this. Do you obey your husband and consider him to be the sole decision maker by virtue of his sex? To me that's the key. So many soi-disant trad wives who just mean they like pottering about and doing a bit of baking.

SilenceInside · 20/05/2026 15:06

Whose “tradition” are you complying with? Is posting on MN part of that tradition? Why is being traditional a “lifestyle”?

TuppenceM · 20/05/2026 15:08

I don’t think this OP is going to be one to engage

Safarisagoody · 20/05/2026 15:10

What on earth is a trad wife lol

We are all ears but at the first hurdle… looks like @LookAtThatMartin would rather not answer a single question let alone “any” question!

You’re quite right.

I’m disappointed at the comments and wont waste my time.

Do you work?

Simply asking for a definition

not a great start

BreadInCaptivity · 20/05/2026 15:17

Did you ask your husbands permission to start this thread?

Araminta1003 · 20/05/2026 15:17

“What this report reveals is far more nuanced and, frankly, more concerning than a simple return to the past. Young women aren't rejecting equality, rather, they're exhausted by inequality. They're not nostalgic for male breadwinner models, they're burned out by a system that demands they excel in paid work while still shouldering the bulk of unpaid care and domestic labour. When young women
find the aesthetic of tradwife content appealing, they're responding to the promise of calm in a world that offers them relentless pressure instead.”

What do you think?

And
“But here's what should alarm us: when systems fail people, they become vulnerable to solutions that promise relief, even if those solutions come wrapped in ideology that threatens their autonomy and rights. As this research shows, tradwife content doesn't just offer recipes and decorating tips. It can
serve as a gateway to more extreme views about women's place in society. The aesthetics are a lure. The danger is what lies beneath.”

What do you think?

I suppose - and what is your take on UCL’s report overall?

Araminta1003 · 20/05/2026 15:18

Is your name Martina?

Araminta1003 · 20/05/2026 15:19

What do you think about the Handmaid’s Tale - both the book and the series.

Have you read and watched the Testaments?

What do you think about Margaret Atwood?

Upstartled · 20/05/2026 15:20

Are you just a run of the mill sahm or are you a, 'Have you chopped enough fire wood to survive the winter?' proper tradwife?

Passingthrough123 · 20/05/2026 15:24

LookAtThatMartin · 20/05/2026 15:14

You're flouncing after less than ten comments, and none of them particularly negative?

AgnesX · 20/05/2026 15:24

A tradwife. Mmm, right ok.

So you don't earn your own money, or if you do it becomes your husband's is that right? How many of your decisions are made if your husband doesn't agree with it? You cook and clean and do what you're told? And he does nothing in the home at all which includes looking after the children?

I suspect your life is like that of any other wife who doesn't actually go out to work.

Upstartled · 20/05/2026 15:25

Come back, op. I have questions. How long does it take to milk a cow and bake bread before the children rise?

AgnesX · 20/05/2026 15:26

We've not had a good old fashioned flounce for a while 😁

NearlyNewNonny · 20/05/2026 15:26

AMA, I won't answer because you've offended my very traditional sensibilities, but ask away...

Dolphinnoises · 20/05/2026 15:27

This is the funniest AMA ever. Ask me anything… no, not like that! 🤣

If you’re still about, OP - what’s your highest educational qualification?

You've posted in "Ask me ANYTHING".
You didn't understand the assignment did you?

YouOKHun · 20/05/2026 15:28

It’s perfectly reasonable to ask you to define what a Trad Wife is, your own definition and interpretation @LookAtThatMartin. Many of us are not familiar with it or it seems to be defined slightly differently by those who say they are a Trad Wife. It was the inevitable first question. What were you expecting?
