I am a Trad wife - ask me anything.

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 20/05/2026 17:51

I really would have expected OP to have at least explained what she meant by Trad Wife here

I actually came on this thread thinking it had the potential to be interesting depending on what she meant by the term.

But I didn't get the chance to be interested

Quite disappointing that you gave up after a few responses and wouldn't even explain what you meant @LookAtThatMartin

Nogimachi · 20/05/2026 17:56

Why don’t you call yourself a housewife?

FashionVixen · 20/05/2026 17:58

People mean such different things by this. Do you obey your husband and consider him to be the sole decision maker by virtue of his sex? To me that's the key. So many soi-disant trad wives who just mean they like pottering about and doing a bit of baking.

The lack of engagement says to me it’s the pottering and homemade cookies variety. So a lot of us on a slow day.

Missohnoyoubetterdont · 20/05/2026 18:01

Ask me anything but don’t ask me anything

Lovestospotabullfinch · 20/05/2026 18:02

Zapx · 20/05/2026 15:46

Is it any good?

It’s excellent but Natalie (trad wife) is dreadful.

dailyconniptions · 20/05/2026 18:03

What's the point of such a stupid thread? No, you weren't 'happy to answer' anything.

Manchegomango · 20/05/2026 15:05

What makes you think this is interesting enougj for an AMA?

What an incredibly unkind thing to say. Did you intend to hurt the OPs feeling?

LBFseBrom · 20/05/2026 18:04

LookAtThatMartin · 20/05/2026 15:14

You’re quite right.

I’m disappointed at the comments and wont waste my time.

It might have helped had you explained what you mean by "Trad wife". I was a trad wife in many ways, I went out to work, shared a house with my 'trad husband'. We paid bills, did chores, became parents, worried about money - that all seems pretty traditional but your version may be different.

cestlavielife · 20/05/2026 18:04

Have you read Yesteryear? You should tell us your review

ServietteUnion · 20/05/2026 18:08

What a shame, I thought this was going to be amusing, maybe even fascinating, but it was all over before I even got here.

ThatsNicer · 20/05/2026 18:10

I had a few years as a SAHM. There were good reasons at the time. and we all managed on low income later I worked as more hours as health improved and we all lived happily ever after.
I would not think of myself as a trad wife.

Harriet36 · 20/05/2026 18:13

Are you religious?

Pinnacles · 20/05/2026 18:13

How are your finances set up and is anyone paying into your pension?

Well I learnt a new word from this thread so it wasn't entirely a waste of time.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/05/2026 18:24

Do you just mean a traditional, old-fashioned housewife? The one who doesn’t earn anything, but sees to everything domestic and all the childcare?

My DM was one such until I was 14* when she went back to work, but prior to that she certainly wasn’t at all downtrodden, and certainly had a mind of her own.

*and considered old enough to mind rather younger siblings after school and during school holidays.

Overtheatlantic · 20/05/2026 18:37

I always think “Wife of a tradesman” when I see trad wife 🥴

Araminta1003 · 20/05/2026 15:18

Is your name Martina?

Why Martina?

AImportantMermaid · 20/05/2026 18:48

What’s your best flapjack recipe?

BeRedHam · 20/05/2026 18:50

It would have been respectful of the op to define the term, but bearing in mind the sarcastic responses with rude, negative pre- conceived ideas of what a trad wife is, I don't blame her for leaving the thread.
My guess is that it is a SAHM by choice who works hard and has job satisfaction in what she does. I hope that includes 'being there' for ie. elderly neighbours etc offering lifts meals, a listening ear etc.

ArabellaScott · 20/05/2026 18:50

EmailsaysOOO · 20/05/2026 17:50

Can I ask what the benefits of your kind of marriage are , in your view? What would women get from it?

OP is not taking any questions at this time. 😂

Teainapinkcup · 20/05/2026 18:52

Hellohelga · 20/05/2026 16:31

But that does sound similar to sahm. I worked PT with children so I did pretty much all domestic stuff and most childcare. However he was a hands on dad evenings and weekends. Do you mean DH doesn’t bother to father DC when not working?

I actually do not know the answer to that question.

Teainapinkcup · 20/05/2026 18:55

yeah see, unfortunately my own mind goes straight to all those influencer types of trad wife content. Unrealistic for many, but I do not know how they really works things in real life.

MrsBlobby64 · 20/05/2026 18:55

Yawn…

Velvian · 20/05/2026 18:56

How do you feel about the fact that the most popular trad wife influencers are the higher earners in their households @LookAtThatMartin ? Do you find that disingenuous?

Should women with wealth and economic independence be advocating for less privileged women to put themselves under a man's financial control?

Curryingfavour · 20/05/2026 19:02

What would you say is the difference between a tradwife and a regular SAHM ?
