I am a Trad wife - ask me anything.

OP posts:

OP - oh, no! You will get idiotic questions 'define trad wife' - in a similar vein when somebody says 'is this normal'? Idiots who are not normal will start screaming 'define normal!'. This is so tiresome.
But you have to bear in mind that many women on MN would absolutely love to be trad wives, but have to work like dogs to pay 50-50 with their so-called 'dear partners' or even subsidise them under the guise 'he is a great dad'.
You are on the wrong site, especially in the CoL times, sorry.

You’re quite right.

I’m disappointed at the comments and wont waste my time.

How do you do it? I am exhausted on maternity leave with baby and sometimes can barely put dinner together! Would love advice.

yes, with the "no village thing" and little help for mothers now, and all the chronic fatigue, we really need our men to help us too!

Its a different world now, that only a few women (well off husbands, good health , nice home to swan around in) get to choose this lifestyle.

It may have been the norm before in the past as all women helped in communities. Now... not healthy (This is my opinion)

keepswimming38 · 20/05/2026 15:58

Are you a traveller?

You see, unless it comes with a side order of homesteading/ kink/ religion or politics then I don't think that's a tradwife at all. That's just a housewife or a sahm. Financially, it comes with the same risks but it's not like, a niche identity.

How much does your husband earn ?

THIS... trad wife seems to be an online aesthetic now...

Bristolandlazy · 20/05/2026 16:03

Meaning you work part so your husband leaves all the life admin and school pick ups to you. You do ask the shopping, resent your husband, love your children but struggle at times. Wonder if you should of chosen a different career and fantasise about running away to St Lucia with Cillian Murphy?

Teainapinkcup · 20/05/2026 16:04

dont think op be back... Which is sad as I make very good points from personal experience. Trying to heal from chronic illness while being a 100% trad wife is not possible. Hope she takes note if she ever comes back on.

Hellohelga · 20/05/2026 16:09

What’s the difference between trad wife and sahm? Genuine question.

Electriceelslunch · 20/05/2026 16:10

Most pointless AMA I’ve ever come across. Did you think all the questions were going to be, “how to I get your life?”, “how do you make your cakes so beautiful?”, “where’s your best all expenses paid, fully controlled, ahem, I mean structured, holiday been?” As if! What a waste of time

IAMFLUFF · 20/05/2026 16:11

Do you have wheels on your house ?

they see it as a whole role, the men come home to food and everything is taken care of by the wife, the man works outside the home they wife does everything else pretty much home making wise and child care. Must be exhausting.

FeliciaFancybottom · 20/05/2026 16:12

Oftentimes, my household sponges accumulate an awful amount of buildup. What can I do to prevent this?

Look up the youtubers / instagram accounts its a whole thing now. A lot I have seen are American. Youtube earns them an income though so these people do work...

Does your husband know you're posting?

Upstartled · 20/05/2026 16:15

Op, sorry for taking the piss. I thought you were on a wind up.

Now if you have a chronic illness, as one pp suggested. And you have a controlling husband, as another pp suggested. And you had been sold this idea that you should adopt this 'tradwife' identity ...then this feels like your illness has been exploited into a full noise service role that goes beyond doing what you can reasonably do with the limitations you might have.

BoredZelda · 20/05/2026 16:16

“Ask me anything”

”Oh no, not that!!”

Uricon2 · 20/05/2026 16:16

There was a thread a few days ago where some posters were extolling the glories of being a wife in the traveller community over working after marriage, etc. The difference there is a lot of the young women in that situation were pulled out of education after primary school and there is intense cultural pressure, unlike the dingbats who embrace the 'tradwife' nonsense voluntarily.

At its best it's a SAHM (fine if a real choice) life with a stupid name, at worst, not far off Gilead and an insult to the women who are oppressed through no wish of their own.

icannotlivelaughloveintheseconditions · 20/05/2026 16:17

Hi @LookAtThatMartin can you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and how being a trad wife works?

Teainapinkcup · 20/05/2026 16:17

To op... being a good wife is not only the ones who get to do the trad wife stuff... and makes that their whole identity.

Most of us look after our families as females, having husband help with chores and child rearing is not shameful. Hope that helps!

Barney16 · 20/05/2026 16:18

Hilarious. Perhaps her husband wouldn't let her answer or she's gone to milk a cow. Whilst wearing a pinafore.

thank you! It actually caused me a lot of stress and upset at myself trying to adopt this as a "lifestyle" since I am not able to be 100% at all chores all the time. It is a dangerous mindset for some people. I got sucked in by the whole thing, sadly.

viques · 20/05/2026 16:23

Are your barefoot? Are you pregnant? Are you in the kitchen?

If not, why not?

I won’t bother waiting for an answer, though we all know @LookAtThatMartin will be reading the comments!
