Did you vote Labour at the last election? If so, do you regret it now?

tummyduck · 07/08/2025 18:43

What constitutes parenting ? One of mine is instilling being open and non judgmental to them. And giving them a happy home life and school life. You?

Er not sending them away to school Is a good start
You never see your son’s so how do you teach them any thing? 🙄

DinaofCloud9 · 07/08/2025 18:50

Why are you just giving short cryptic answers?

You started the thread on Ask Me Anything. Noone made you start it.

You haven't engaged at all.

you mean your servent is cooking 😂

They don't have servants, she is a military wife. Her kids are allegedly at a prestigious school courtesy of us, the tax payer. It is nothing to crow about I hope her dc have more self awareness but I doubt it.

Everyday99 · 07/08/2025 18:52

In 100 % of cases, including mine, you know that your parents didn't want you, feels that way, and we always end up nc ....I'm in a FB group. Was in another country, no abuse, same results in my life

I am very hands off when it comes to academics . They are doing well so I trust the teachers to tell me if needed. The house master will contact me if I need to speak or any issues

Hands off when it comes to academics? I should hope so.

Victoria39 · 07/08/2025 18:52

How do you know all that? . No saying your wrong..

IdaGlossop · 07/08/2025 18:54

What steps are you taking as parents to help your DS understand just how privileged they are so they don't grow up with the entitlement so often seen in boys from schools like tge one you have chosen?

muggart · 07/08/2025 18:55

tummyduck · 07/08/2025 17:29

It is great to challenge your own comfort zone. I encourage it. I encourage my kids to. Not everyone in life agrees with or will like you

OK but that didn’t answer my question.

I was wondering whether BS parents know how they are viewed by most of society.

PyongyangKipperbang · 07/08/2025 18:55

tummyduck · 07/08/2025 17:43

military subsidy and working hard

So.....the tax payer does directly contribute to your kids being at that school then?

Fogey · 07/08/2025 18:55

Hermyknee · 07/08/2025 18:42

Where is this (mythical) school? It is the first school ever to have no peer-on-peer abuse either verbally or sexually.

Must tell that to Ofsted and KCSIE - they will need to learn. Both say it’s so prevalent that you have to assume it’s happening because it will be. They must be wrong!

OP you are paying for a good PR team too.

Not all private schools have OFSTED inspections … they have their own inspection body. This in itself means that things can slip through the net as the independent Schools Inspectorate is not quite as rigorous in some areas as OFSTED. What happens in private schools would disturb a lot of people who are unfamiliar with the system. In many ways and for a lot of children it’s great but relationships with parents can, for some, be strained. I have personally seen kids preferring school to home because that is their “home”. Not always the case but sometimes. This thread is ridiculous … OP sounds like she thinks she’s done something really special … she hasn’t. Meanwhile, I might start a thread about how I put my own socks on this morning … not that I want to boast😆

Everyday99 · 07/08/2025 18:56

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 07/08/2025 18:33

OP, you said your kids are very ‘socially aware and socially conscious’. Can you explain how this manifests itself, please?

Thell grow up and turn just like us, all of us, socially introverted, incapable of trusting people, making sure our own children will never have to leave us, even to their old age. It's a balancing act

Victoria39 · 07/08/2025 18:56

tummyduck · 07/08/2025 17:52

No. You just seem a bit pushy

You calling other people pushy is bizarre🤨. One day it will be your sons who will be the ones pushing others around in some top job of there’s. But you will be ok with that of course 👍

Jibberty · 07/08/2025 18:56

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 07/08/2025 16:03

Or Wellington.

Wellington is mixed. Both Wellington and Winchester start at 13, so clearly not those schools.

IdaGlossop · 07/08/2025 18:57

What is your reaction to the assertion of an Australian colleague of mine who challenges other colleagues whose DC go to boarding school by telling them that It's the rich person's version of social services?

I would love my child to launch, but cannot predict this. She's with me and I've done home stay life solely dedicated to her.

TimeForATerf · 07/08/2025 17:06

Ahhhhh (have ex military in the family here) so you’re sending them to a top school for peanuts at the expense of the UK taxpayers, whilst being a trailing wife because if you stayed at home you wouldn’t qualify.

Lol - and the OP said this upthread Actually for their school, you have to be bright. 25% come in on assisted places and my fees pay for them and I am happy about that

hilarious. Pays a portion of fees with taxpayers money and still thinks she is benevolent!

Asunciondeflata · 07/08/2025 17:54

It helps if you've read Stephen Fry's autobiography. Otherwise, don't look it up...

Oh yes, I know what it is- I meant I was tempted to ask the OP the question I quoted.

JustSawJohnny · 07/08/2025 18:58

*Accidentally deleted the quote! This was in reply to the commenter challenging the notion that boys & girls learn differently

It is true, to a degree.

More about outcomes than actual learning but generally girls perform better with coursework and exams and boys better with pure exams.

I remember something in teacher training about there being more kinesthetic male learners (learn from doing), whereas girls tended to take in information better auditorily or visually.

Nothing works across the board though, does it. It's just a generalisation.

Not sure if this is even a focus of learning in schools any more but it is a handy tool for knowing how you best take in information as it makes revision a lot easier.

No. It is a new initiative mixed 6th form so not tried properly yet, and i would like her to go to an all girls school

Is sending your children to single sex schools just personal preference or is there a deeper reason/research behind it?
