Off the back of another thread I thought I would put it up. So as the title says...I live in a tiny home! Ask me anything...

How tiny though? Studio flat home?
Do you have a separate bedroom?
Invite friends over?

Lamentations · 28/04/2020 11:58

Yes you need to give more descriptive info OP.

Humphriescushion · 28/04/2020 11:59

I am downsizing soon so good thread.

Did you downsize from a bigger place?
Do you have any storage space? If so where?
Any tips for being organised/managing?
Anything you could not do without, or wish you had space for?
Thanks

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 12:28

It's about 400sq ft altogether and it's me, my dh and 2 dc. Two bedrooms, one living, kitchen and dining area. A small store room and a bathroom (shower room).

Do you have a garden?
How are you coping with lockdown in such a small space?
Why did you choose a tiny house?

Hoohaahoo · 28/04/2020 12:46

Do you wish you lived in a bigger house?

Northernsoullover · 28/04/2020 12:49

Do you have any pictures of something similar? How are you coping in lockdown?

totallyyesno · 28/04/2020 12:49

Are you in an area where everyone lives in a tiny house and if so, are there good communal spaces, parks, laundries etc?

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 12:50

@8by8 yes we have just over an acre (thank god) we are coping well enough with lockdown, we are eating outside for a lot of meals which is great! The dc have a great play area so they are happy.

We chose small because we lived in a huge house and HATED it!! I spent all day every day cleaning so we opted for a refurb job and bought our cottage. I can clean it too to bottom in 15/20mins!! And we are mortgage free which was a major pull factor!

I thought by tiny home it was one of those featured on the programme and is like a shoebox. I don't think 400sq ft is actually that tiny! Lots of families in London living in a flat that size.

cocklepicker · 28/04/2020 12:53

That's not tiny tiny is it? In fact you've lots of space. Not sure this will cheer anyone up living in a flat!

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 12:58

@Hoohaahoo no I have lived in a huge house before and I would NEVER go back!

@Northernsoullover
if you google small traditional Irish cottages you'll get the idea.

@totallyyesno no there are many different types of houses around us...we are rural. We have our own laundry facilities and as I said we are on an acre so plenty of outdoor space. But yes one of our local villages has a great park. We are also 5 mins from the beach.

I thought a tiny house was a specific thing? That just sounds like a normal London flat amount of space?

SwayingInTime · 28/04/2020 12:59

It's small - these are all studios for singles and couples:

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 12:59

@cocklepicker the outside dimensions of the main cottage are 5m x 7m so imo it is small

DandelionsAndDaisies1 · 28/04/2020 13:00

That’s bigger than the 2 bedroom flat we used to live in, with 2 adults and 2 children!!! It was about 300 square feet, now that was a struggle for space. I wouldn’t consider that a tiny home, just a small house.

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 13:01

I wasn't trying to "cheer" anyone up I was merely going off of another thread. Thought some ppl might be interested in asking questions...that is all!

OP posts:
Scruffyoak · 28/04/2020 13:02

I would say that's small for 4 people but I live the idea of less cleaning!

totallyyesno · 28/04/2020 13:06

That is small imo so don't let people put you off answering. I was wondering how you store seasonal things. I have found that small spaces are much more liveable with storage space and too many flats have no storage at all.

WhenItIsOver · 28/04/2020 13:16

Do you have outbuildings?
Mains gas?
Can I buy your house?

tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 13:19

@totallyyesno we have some attic space over the bedrooms for seasonal stuff. The main area is vaulted so no attic there.

@WhenItIsOver no gas as we are rural. We have a wood burning stove in the main room and the bedrooms have very efficient electric heaters. But the house is highly insulated.

OP posts:
tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 13:20

@WhenItIsOver no outbuildings, just a shed really.

OP posts:
tinyhouseliving · 28/04/2020 13:42

In fact my dh has just reminded me that the playroom in our old house was bigger than our current house 🤣🤣

What did you not like about living in a huge house, that's most people's dream.
